Here is EP 4/4 of my 2019 SoCal series, folks! Good old Ian -- a.k.a. iDubbbz -- is *back!* In this session, we explore and fish a *natural* SoCal Creek! :D Enjoy! And if you haven't watched the previous videos in this series yet... I need to find you and fish with you to add some species to my life list. Over 16 years of fishing in my lifetime, I have only 22 species. Not bad, but could be a lot better.
It's getting tougher up here near the bay area to. There is a creek about 10 minute walk from my house. 2-3 months ago a typical day was 3-4 fish an outing. Now that the weather is getting colder they're getting less and less willing to bite.
Extreme Philly Fishing very sad reality in most of socal. smaller lakes and ponds are all we have and they are often overfished during spawning season. too many bass and crappie are taken out of the lakes and it destroys the population. me and my dad have seen too many people with coolers keeping the spawning fish to eat 😔
Yes there are trout in California, the mountains have Rainbow and Golden Trout (endemic to Sierra Mts) in Northern Cali there is also Cutthroat Trout. As far as the lowland streams of Southern and Central Cali I do not think there are any Native game fish species, everything is introduced like panfish, bass and catfish.
Sam compare now to like the starwars history where the Jedi went into hiding after order 66 and idubbbz survived order 66 and is in his own dagobah normally doing his squirrel videos
If you ever find yourself in SoCo(southern Colorado) , we have some nice fishing here. Where I am is right on the Arkansas river. There are a couple of man-made lakes in my city that have some nice walleye, trout of various species, catfish, carp, and bass of various species. It seems like you never know what you'll pull out of the Arkansas.
Always good to get home from work to another good epf video. In California further north there's something called a Sacremento Perch, that may be worth adding to your life list.
Most of the water and freshwater species are in northern California. Our trout are the original rainbow trout that were planted everywhere on the world over 100 years ago. Ironically most runs are endangered. We also have giant king salmon, sturgeon, and many other native species on the Sacramento San Joaquin Delta region. Lots of different native trout species in the mountain streams here.
Come to north and central California, we have tons of cold water salt and freshwater species you likely don’t have. We also have isolated native trout strains only found here!
@EPF you should look into going up The High Sierras about 6 hours north of OC up HWY 395 Specially check out Bishop CA German Browns, Brook, CutThroat, and stocked Rainbow Trout can be found up in the higher elevations And Small Mouth, Large Mouth, CatFish, Carp, Sacramento Perch, and Blue Gill are found down in the valley. Go to Inyo or Mono county websites and you’ll find all the info you need. Hope you check it out SoCal has plenty to offer if you know the right spots.
There are indeed trout in california! The western/eastern sierras as well as northern california and the Owen's valley (my favorite place to go) has some amazing freshwater fishing...I'd love to show you around!
Being able to catch big blue gill and an LMB in a small creak is awesome! Guess you’ll have to look elsewhere for some new species bro! Salt water is where it’s at in Cali at this time of the year.

This place is beautiful, has great fish, congratulations your fishing was amazing. Hug and good fishing!👍
Highway 180 from Fresno California if you go east to Kings Canyon there’s a nice River that runs through there I pick up a lot of produce out of that area every time I go through there it looks like a good spot if you ever out in the Fresno California area look it up
Ian casually messing with fire-ants... I mean, sure they don't hurt too bad, but it sure as hell lasts a long time. Went to war with those things in my backyard for almost a decade. Fire-ants aint nothin' to fuck with.
Hey, Leo, I've been curious about something for a while: There are some popular species of fish which seem to appear in bodies of water all over the continent. However, often these same fish are in completely unrelated bodies of water. Have they been introduced around North America, or do you think they've spread through natural means?
Dammm bro I’m from Oceanside that would of been epic. Fishing with live bait is the way to go on the west when saltwater fishing. Love the videos keep up the awesome work.
There's trout within 100 miles of OC. They would never survive in water like that though, no oxygen. Not sure how the drought has treated them, but there are several nice trout streams on both slopes of the San Gabriels. On the North slope, the two I fished the (I left 20 years ago) most, Big Rock and Littlerock creeks, between the two I have caught rainbows, browns, cutthroat & hybrids, brookies, and goldens, but mostly wild born rainbows interbred from how ever many dozens of strains they have stocked over the years. The rainbows high up Littlerock Creek honestly rival goldens in their beauty. I think you need wilderness passes to get there though.
keck it Leo, back in the day 15 yrs old.central California, Tempelton,ca. Paso Robles Creek. the creek is a trib. to the Salinas river which runs south to north, shit you not. it dumps into Monterey Bay. I'm writing a frickin book, sorry, caught aTench!!!!! 1lb max. it's different here on the left coast.
You should try to come to LA county! In Long Beach! There’s a few ponds here that I would looove to see you fish here. Also I know a few places for trout/catfish not her in the LA county area though but it’s pay to get in, they have thunder trouts there also
If in NorCal.... San Jose Ca Campbell/Los Gatos area, to be a little bit more specific can be good spot for you. Just my opinion, for the type of videos that you make, and all beaches anywhere from Monterey-Santa Cruz to half moon bay jetty’s- Sf is1 hour away from San Jose. It’s in the middle of everything, but of course your micro fishing would take place anywhere in cAmpbell or Los Gatos.
Leo, actually their are 11 species of trout native to only California. I myself have caught 8 out of the 11. If your ever trying to knock a couple off let me know. 4 of the species are in my home waters
Hey Leo. I love your videos! I’ve heard you mention I think that you are a physicist? I work in radiology in a healthcare setting and I was just wondering in what capacity do you practice physics?
I'm just glad you were safe in California I don't want to bash the place but I've been there..I know it's a tough town USA but California can get crazy ..good video man
love the socal series, i got a spot in northern san diego that has a species called red eye bass and they are everywhere hmu next time you are out here

Unless you go into the mountains, Bluegill, minnows & maybe a small bass is all you'll find in any creeks in Socal.
loads of green sunfish.. in some places, goldfish, mosquitofish, etc too..
Yep pretty much it. What kind were you expecting?
In the bigger streams ive found carp and even trout, the best thing to do is just wait till its crawdad season
iDubbbz doesn't upload on his own channel yet here he is in fishing videos out of no where.

You need to go more north of California..like sf Bay or Sacramento CA ,Antioch ca...
Agreed and Suisun Marsh region. Tons of different species there, too.
Right? I've never fished in So-cal, but up here we have tons of different fish.
How did you become friends with Ian??
