Unlikely - Radio shows wouldn’t have been National, but regional (just as most are today!). Alastor is from New Orleans, Angel from NYC. There’s almost no way Angel would EVER have heard Alastor on the radio when alive, though it is a cute idea. It wouldn’t been cool,
@@chess6602 Not as unlikely as you'd think. AM broadcasts (which were the only kinds available in the 20s) travel way farther than FM because it can bounce off the atmosphere for hundreds of miles though something called skywave propagation or skipping. At night an AM signal can be heard for upwards of 1000 miles. If little Angel was playing with the radio before bed he might actually be able to pick the signal up if all is well
@@tyredd550 If they ever show what Angel's life was like when he was alive him picking up Al's radio broadcast as a kid would be cool. Alastor could even be doing a news report on his own crimes lol
If Alastor's program was on New Orleans "blowtorch" radio station, WWL 870 (the oldest radio station in New Orleans, dating back to the 1920's, and operated by Loyola University), with its 50,000 watt signal, Angel might easily have heard it. Depending on the weather conditions, WWL's signal could be heard in over 40 states!
@@kai9137There is one though! I found one yesterday. Screams and all included. It was actually a very nice broadcast 🙈 I like that this one has time accurate songs. That one didn't and is more show centered with songs. But the way it is done, is very fun!
Tbh I thought this was going to be his radio broadcast from Hell, and I was expecting 16 minutes of screaming with a radio filter over it lmao. But I really enjoyed this 1920s style broadcast!
Alastor _Hartfeld._ I get it. Cuz “hart” is another word for “stag”. That’s actually super clever, and it genuinely might be my favorite of Al’s fan-given last names yet! Also this video is so cool. Simple joys of simpler times, all alongside the most charismatic serial killer in Depression-era New Orleans. I’m so happy I happened to stumble upon this, excellent work! 😊
From what I understand Viz wrote the name on one of her original drawings "Alastor Hartfelt", it's on a wiki for the show. Whether it's cannon or not is a whole other ball of wax.
as soon as I heard the “That’s all!” at the end of the first song, my suspicions were confirmed - that’s Annette Henshaw! Now, how do I, an older than average (but not THAT old!) Gen X animation fan know about this particular obscure singer from the 1920s? Am I some fan of century old radio? A collector of old record albums? Nope! It’s still because of the aforementioned animation fandom! If you don’t mind wading through my wall of text, let me introduce you to an amazing animated film you NEED to check out! Some years ago at the NY International Children’s Film Festival, I had the pleasure of seeing the amazing original animated film “Sita Sings the Blues”, a solo autobiographical animation by Nina Paley. It tells Nina’s story, how she was living with her husband in San Francisco when he got a tech contract job in India. He was away for months on end, and Nina missed him. She eventually went to meet him in India, but found him fairly cold and uninterested in her. She returned disappointed to the USA, but not before having gotten interested the Hindu religious text, the Ramayana of Valmiki, which tells tales of the ancient Indian prince and demigod Rama and his wife Sita. The tales tell how Sita was abducted by a jealous king, and despite her steadfastly maintaining her virtue and loyalty Rama, she was nevertheless treated with unfair suspicion when he rescued her. Eventually, to maintain the respect of his subjects, Rama banished Sita. Later, Nina’s husband called from India and said he wanted a divorce. Nina was utterly heartbroken, and stayed with a friend who supported her, and who also happened to have a great collection of vintage records from the early 20th century. Nina started listening to these, especially to one singer, Annette Hanshaw, whose songs about love and loss especially resonated with Nina. In Nina’s mind these three elements - her divorce, Sita’s mistreatment by Rama despite her faithfulness, and Hanshaw’s songs - all fused into this amazing amalgamation which became this one-woman animated movie! But there was a funny catch… Nina used Hanshaw’s songs in the movie because the copyright on all the old recordings had lapsed, so they were in the public domain. But when the movie came out, Nina was contacted by the holding company which owned rights to the music that Hanshaw was singing! They were demanding an absurd sum in royalties for music no one listened to anymore! Eventually Nina was able to get out of paying them by agreeing not to make money from the screenings of the film itself which had the music - only from secondary merch. As a result of this, Nina also became an activist for copyright reform, and learned about the existence of the open source movement. As such, she has made the entire “Sita Sings the Blues” movie available on the Internet, in high quality, for free download with her blessing! It’s easy to find with a quick google search and I can’t recommend it highly enough, because the several Annette Hanshaw songs turned into anime music videos with scenes from the Ramayana in it are a treat! (And Hanshaw’s signature is ending every song with, “That’s All!” 😁) Since you clearly like quirky animation too, based on religious mythology (like Hazbin Hotel), and Annette Hanshaw tunes, I really think that this film would be your cup of tea (to paraphrase Alastor)! Oh, and I’m your 950th like! 👍🏼
I always find that art flourishes in times of strife. Extra especially if the arts are the only avenue people have to express themselves openly in times where oppression was extremely common. As a result, the 20s to 40s have very interesting and sometimes very harrowing pieces. There was plenty of optimistic songs in these eras too, but it always comes across like wishful thinking. For example, we'll meet again is cheerful and hopeful in a time where parents were having to separate from their children for evacuation purposes. My point is, I love these older decades of music and art, but it's a bittersweet feeling overall
I've never clicked anything so hard. For ages I've wanted to hear how his radio show would be in the show, but they've never shown him doing any radio! I would hope he'd also cover news and audio dramas!
Wow! I absolutely love this! It is nice to hear oldies but goodies :) it might be interesting to imply Alastair’s backstory while doing this, but that is just a suggestion. Keep it up, thank you for sharing this with us, stage safe, and may beautiful colors fill your world! 🌈❤️ I’m

I wish you all the best!❤
I love everything about this, this idea is so great and I just want hours of his show! And I have to agree with another comment I read about the cleverness of Hartfeld as a last name, absolute brilliance. I'm so glad a second episode is out for me to go run and watch as well, I hope you can keep making more :)
Ngl i thought this was gonna be distorted jazz with layered screams lmao But seems like a pretty accurate track list for the broadcasts he'd do in life
Love the inclusion of Brother Can You Spare a Dime! It's a favorite of mine, and it mentions the singer as having been called 'Al', which is neat for this cause y'know, 'AL'astor, so it was a joy to see it included! The voice acted bits are also quite enjoyable and well-done!
Yeah, I researched that about the radio licenses that were in the area in the 20s and 30s and WWL at Loyola was the first one in New Orleans. 850 on the dial, but according to some other research New Orleans was home to nine radio stations in those days. But there was a big Press/Radio war in New Orleans in the late 1920s, and the New Orleans press blocked radio broadcasts from June 32-March34. But ya never know, our beloved Alastor might have broadcast from somewhere else in 1932-33. I'm sure some stations were still broadcasting, but without a license. I think, since Alastor was a radio personality, he probably had a variety show too, don't you? ♥
