We're trying out some of the soft training weapons from FakeSteel Armory: www.fakesteel.cz/ They also make softer foam options for LARP. Padded weapons can offer a great low-gear option for HEMA training, or a safer way to get beginners learning timing and distance in a fun or competitive way.
Lucy's face expresses how we all feel about Matt very very often. Her skeptical look when he said the video was going to be brief was exactly my thought before I saw how long the video is ;)
As a FakeSteel worker, hilts maker and packer, I really appriciate your video! And hope you enjoy our work and will stay with us in the future, we are preparing so much more FakeSteel equipment for everyone to enjoy in the world of LARP and HEMA!!
I bought the first Fakesteel LARP Weapon in the Greek LARP Community, when they were just a Facebook page. Now it has become the standard shop of choice for us and the Czech bros have done an incredible job in every aspect; from their site to the range of weapons. Can't wait for their future projects.
In my club, we use such martial arts-foam swords since more than a decade, until now it was the Calimacil Martial brand that doesn't exist anymore. Foamswords have some disadvantages compared to steel simulator of course, but they also have a lot of very good points. For example, once you don't have to fight in HEMA gear anymore (we use no protections at all), you can wear your reenactment clothing and move much more freely than in the heavy HEMA gambeson. You can also wear armour and then attack where the armour is not, which would be dangerous even with nylon swords. Also, the fact that the "edges" of the foam simulator don't slide as easily as blunt steel swords make a lot of techniques possible that are difficult with the common HEMA steel swords. I wouldn't say that foam swords can replace steel, but I'm very happy that people like Matt Easton don't view them as being childs or LARP toys only, as they can give very precious teachings :-)
I'm proud of this local company. Seems like we are used to taking harder hits during our Czech battling :D in 90s and early 2000s we regularly whacked each other with wood covered in carpet tape and only later started to soften it with camping mats :D
EU fencer, larper, HEMA guy here.... FS is the THE stuff you want. Period, end of story, done. Extremely high quality, sturdy yet safe.

As these guys are from my country, I take it is mandatory to order from them xD I already own training longsword (the exact same as in video) and for Christmas I will get my first fully custom doge sword. Can't wait 😍
I've been eagerly waiting to see some folks i follow like yourself doing a video on fakesteel, and this did not disappoint. Can't wait for the full review!
The only thing that irks men about the Wakefield hanger is that they don’t offer a left hand version. They say on the website that it’s because it’s unnecessary, but I strongly disagree. Try wearing it on your right hip and your just going to get poked with the bit that sticks out on the side.
Wow those are super cool looking and the scabbards really sell it for me. Man I'm really looking forward to the longer review of these with possible some sparing intermixed 🤞🤞 Enjoyed the video as always. 👍👍 Also an early _🎄Merry Christmas🎄_ to both you and Lucy, Matt.
I really would love to see you guys test your skills in a larp battle environment. Maybe roleplay as 'the mad swordmaster'. I think it would be chaotic and glorious ;)
A few months back I discovered this company and was checking out their website and I was very impressed with the look of their stuff. I never brought anything from them as I don't have a need for it currently but I'm glad to see Matt will be reviewing it because I was very curious as to what someone thought of their stuff.
I am german. My father told me , when he was young , for some time fun/joke hammers made of foam rubber / Schaumgummi had been popular. (english hammer/ german Hammer). One day a man showed a friend his Gummihammer/ rubber hammer. The friend thought, oh a fun/joke hammer and hit someone on the head. Was a craftsman rubber hammer.....
Good stuff! A lot is US larps consider Fakesteel weapons too rigid due their safety standards, but I'm glad to see they're starting to find a place in HEMA. They're really quite lovely designs, great attention to detail. I'd love to see more curved larp swords widely available.
@@Tetradugenica1 no pproblem, nowadays those things arent as far away as one whould think. well exept classical larp in the us, thats another take on that. i do know several hema practicioners that love to use the facesteel weapons. because they are awesome.
Wow! I'd been looking at them for shipping over a coupla sabers... wondered if theyd be a good minimal protection option. (Btw... Never missed being at a Xmas bash than this one :/ ...hope you all are well & have fun guys n dolls :) Best from Saudi, Junaid 👍
So, Seki Sensei just dropped a new rapier vs Katana video. I think it could be a really cool experience if he visited your fight camp. He could try any of the weapons he wanted to, you could see how saber matches up against a next level katana practitioner.
I have a sabre from them. The quality is great! But the weapon lacks good finish. there are many other foam weapon fabricants with better paintjobs. So thats an area they can still improve at. Noen the less they are one of the fabricants I recommend without hesitation. the others are Freyhand and Wyverncrafts.
Hi Matt, I've been tempted to try the fake steel armory products for a while, my main concern is how safely you can thrust with them, so I hope you'll test this specific aspect.
That is an utterly terrible idea. They are still dangerous and can still cause serious injury children should only use LARP weapons under supervision of someone who knows what they are doing, and these non larp ones not at all.
Wow what beautiful training swords. Must put in an order some fine day. I was wondering why you guys with all that cold steel around, did not have a knife, etc to help you unwrap the swords? Just wondering, lol. Also a Very Merry Christmas to you and the whole crew, cheers
l'm lusting for one of these. But here's a question: what kind of armor/shield could you use without damaging them? Metal or even rigid polypropylene would seem too tough.
If Matt seems to be a bit more excited towards more „Larp-Style“ weapons, maybe check out German Manufacturer Wyvern-Crafts. From my experience slightly less durable than fakesteel, but even more accurate and detailed, and a bit less hard on impact.
Hey Matt, how do you think these will hold up to Go-Now training boffers? My club primarily uses those but these look great. I'd like to get one but concerned that the Go-Nows might damage them.
I wish companies that offer "custom" weapons actually let you customize. Like there's no option to put a complex hilt on a curved sword, so there's no way to actually "invent" a weapon.

Wonderful video, Lucy! Matt was a great guest.
Lucy laughting knowingly when matt says we gonna keep this brief is comedy gold
Not as gold as whatever joke she made after he mentioned wearing a cup. So good he had to cut it.
Don't forget "I've never hit Lucy on the head." and her "Accidentally."
Your childlike glee at the little details they've put into their work speaks wonders for them. I'm already sold and looking at their shamshir options.

I'm so in tune with Matt's child like enthusiasm over these LARP swords. I'm the same, but with telescopes and every paraphernalia possible! 😁

Its always a treat when Lucy appears!
Your enthusiasm is infections. I would love to see more of Matt unwrapping new toys.
A Matt video under 10 minutes??? A rare happenstance😂
You can say It's Because a lack of context
It's a Christmas miracle!
Czech republic. Let's gooo!
Oh btw. FakeSteel is one of the softer LARP weapon's manufacturers in Czech republic.

What fun! Great reveal - opening parcels at Christmas. Want to learn more. Thanks.
Merry Christmas, Matt and Lucy.
It’s fun seeing Matt so excited, like a kid.
Wow that sword with the gold guard and pommel looks great and that scabbard! I never knew I'd want a LARP sword so badly!

Very much agreed
Christmas has come early to the Eastons. So much fun watching you two having fun.

It's a video with Lucy! That's the Christmas gift that shows Matt really cares about us. ;)
Damn, those look like fun! Show us some sparring with them!
Merry Christmas Matt and Lucy!
Matt couldn’t wait to open his Christmas presents.

Softer than steel, harder than your skull.
For good luck, the man survived.
I'm hungover, moving slow and having my first cup of coffee of the day. Then I find Matt and Lucy are doing an unboxing - perfect!
The glee is wonderful!
All of these look pretty good!
I'll be waiting for your impressions from sparring with them.

Merry Christmas, Matt and Lucy! These look awesome - I'm going to go check out the website. Y'all really brightened my day with this video 😊.

That's the first time I see a truly curbed blade in those kinds of weapons.
Lucy's looking a little dangerous with that war hammer
I bought polish sabre❤from fakesteel and i live it❤❤❤
I absolutely LOVE fakesteel they are wonderful.
HEMA must really be reaching a height if these are available
actually those are intendet for LARP :D
@@inquisitorhedgehog3730 woops haha

Happy Christmas Eastons! 🎁🎄
Merry Christmas!!! From Berthoud CO, USA.
Saw you do a resonance tap to the pommel and laughed. It looks real enough that you tried to see how it vibrated!
Happy holidays! Love you, Lucy!
FakeSteel Armory's crossbows have been on my radar for a while.
The warhammer looks pretty similar to the wallhammer in your shed!
I think this one has longer langets.
summary: oooh aaaah wooow XD love to see you two so excited! Merry Christmass!

These look really fun
Very cool! Those look like a lot of fun!
Merry Christmas 🎄
I own a Fakesteel mace. It's awesome
So, Seki Sensei just dropped a new rapier vs Katana video. I think it could be a really cool experience if he visited your fight camp. He could try any of the weapons he wanted to, you could see how saber matches up against a next level katana practitioner.
Thank you both for the video I never really got into LARPing but I went a couple times it is fun. I like real weapons ⚔️
HAPPY CHRISTMAS!
Merry Christmas Lucy and Matt. 🎉🎄🥳🥂
Great stuff as always. 👍
Matt: “I never hit Lucy on the head… on accident!”
Lucy: **offended Pikachu face*
I was looking forward to more unboxing videos with the two of you! I'll take that as an early present :p
ideal for people attending Comicon type events in cosplay where metal weapons aren't allowed
Christmas at the Eastons!
Those look amazing. Would also be great for introducing kids into reenactments.
oke..best add you can make, going to buy stuff now
Fakesteel are awesome but for LARP using good if user is aware that they are harder than regular foam weapons
I have a sabre from them. The quality is great! But the weapon lacks good finish. there are many other foam weapon fabricants with better paintjobs. So thats an area they can still improve at. What an awesome Christmas! Matt was like a little kid (as would we all be....)
yep, they are extremely good. i got a few myselfe!
best on the market as for now.
Thats are not just for LARPers. If you have children or children of family and friends these could be awesome gifts!
That is an utterly terrible idea. They are still dangerous and can still cause serious injury children should only use LARP weapons under supervision of someone who knows what they are doing, and these non larp ones not at all.
I've got a 36 year old kid in my house...

Impressive 👏👏
Santa arrived earlier and bring you nice toys to play at Christmas eve 🙂
Merry Christmas
These look safer than steel blunts and almost ideal for living history purposes.
Zlatý český ručičky
Merry crimble Eastonsn😊
Someone makes a somewhat accurate kilij training sword? I might have to check that one out!
A video under 10 minutes. Is this the Matt Easton equivalent of a Speed Run, I wonder? 🤔
I would still use hockey/lacrosse gloves for those. Or at minimum some padded gloves of some sort.
Wow what beautiful training swords. Must put in an order some fine day. I was wondering why you guys with all that cold steel around, did not have a knife, etc to help you unwrap the swords? Just wondering, lol. Also a Very Merry Christmas to you and the whole crew, cheers
Have you used the older calamacil? If so, which is less pleasant to be smacked with, the older heavier calamacil or fake steel?
l'm lusting for one of these. But here's a question: what kind of armor/shield could you use without damaging them? Metal or even rigid polypropylene would seem too tough.
I see Lucy with the warhammer I hear "SledgeHammer"
Matt having a nerdgasm. 😅
If Matt seems to be a bit more excited towards more „Larp-Style“ weapons, maybe check out German Manufacturer Wyvern-Crafts. From my experience slightly less durable than fakesteel, but even more accurate and detailed, and a bit less hard on impact.
Deadass I'd like to know A: if you DID spar with dual sabres against other weapons, and B: if so what are your thoughts on it/ howd you like it?
I would be verg interested in a durability test, especially against fencing masks.
Sh*t. I ALSO ordered myself a Fakesteel sword for myself for Christmas.
Oh I checked the website, the messer is only 100g or so lighter than Kreiger (Poland) steel ones.
From movies ,tv commercials,teatre....☝🏽
I waited the whole video for Lucy to hit Mat over the head with one of the items.
Lucy sometimes looked like she wanted to test the Warhammer and a sword or two on Matt
the leather belt and scabbard is probably more costly than the sabre
Hey Matt, how do you think these will hold up to Go-Now training boffers? My club primarily uses those but these look great. I'd like to get one but concerned that the Go-Nows might damage them.
It'll hold up fine - the GoNows are "softer," more heavily padded. There should be zero issues.
The police here in Texas would not even bat an eye for someone carrying the real ones. 🤔🤣🤣🤣
Matt buy that woman some jewelry or something that a girl likes.... she's such a good supportive wife!
I wonder if those could replace rattan, for those of us who indulge...
Hi Lucy! Looking beautiful
all awesome and all...but your wife is SUPER COOL!
I wish companies that offer "custom" weapons actually let you customize. Like there's no option to put a complex hilt on a curved sword, so there's no way to actually "invent" a weapon.
do you know any good 1880-1890s British military swordsmanship manuals and if they are online?
