i got my restricted just over 8 months ago so here are my personal tips. 1) when u are approaching a stop sign, FULLY stop, no small movement, foot FULLY on the brake. I know this sounds obvious but i failed to stop at one of the signs ( i thought i had but my instructor said i got so close just didnt do that full brake) 2) even tho it honestly feels a bit silly, check mirrors and blind spots (turn your head over ur shoulder on each side at a time) at least every 10 secs if not more. you should be doing this while driving regularly but just overexaggerate on the test. that also includes any moventment youre doing. ie. switching lanes, turning into a road, honestly even at traffic lights just looking around and checking goes a long way i would imagine. 3) the parallel PARK. this was the only reason i put off booking my test for a while. id never done one, it was scary etc. practice, practice, practice !! u will get it, it took me a few days to get comfy (also having a small car did help me) but now i do them all the time. i also dont know this for a fact, but im 90% sure on the restriced if you have to do a parallel park (which u mostly will) then itll only be the movement behind another car, it wont be in between two. which, tbf to me was still scary but not as much as the regular way of doing it lol 4) my instructor told me was that when youre turning into a road with two lanes, you always go into the left lane unless youre turning right (or smth like that theres probs other reasons but cant fully remember) anyway yeah, make sure to just relax as much as possible. it feels like a big deal, and it is but no matter the outcome all you can do is try your best. best of luck to all those taking their tests!
Good advice... yet again proves though passing is just a box ticking exercise. You could be the most unskilled driver ever and still pass if you "check your mirrors at the right intervals" etc.
I finally passed!! You guys can do it! They want you to pass and you got this, just chill out and pretend they're someone you're comfortable driving with.

I failed my restricted yesterday in less that 10 minutes,so I think this video will help me pass next time. I've watched this heaps to help me remember the critical errors and immediate fails to hopefully avoid me doing them in the test. I go for my second test in November,I'll comment again then whether I pass or not! Hopefully I pass next time,I'll practice heaps until my next test!

Just passed but I had 2 critical errors, I didn't realize that cutting a corner was a critical error so just watch that. Otherwise, don't worry too much its not that bad if you have enough practice :)

Very helpful. I did mine the other day prior to watching this and got pinged for: Following distance (x2) Too slow (thought someone wanted the crossing and they didn't) Very gutting as usually I'm not too bad on my following distance and I only had 5m left in the test, so without 1 of the following distance errors or that pedestrian crossing, I would've been good to go. Interestingly I got both parallel park and 3 point turn on my test and aced both of those, but failed on the small stuff. Hopefully second time is the trick!

Great video thank you! Test is this week 😬 1:16 is something new to me also quite confusing...what happens when there are multiple cars parked on the left side. Are you still meant to indicate right the whole time you pass the line of cars? Seems hazardous if you do.
Yeah it's a really dumb rule, but I usually indicate for three seconds to go over the centerline, then don't indicate while driving along, then indicate for three seconds to go back over. Either way, there's absolutely no reason to carry on doing this after your test. Just another case of how our driving tests are box ticking excersizes rather than actually teaching people to drive... @KiwiCarLife the one thing that really annoys me is I grew up on a farm been driving since I was 12 I've been pulled over by police on farm roads to compliment my driving these roads are family owned roads that they use to get from a to b and failing like that is really annoying !!

Every time you need to do a turn left or right you you need to check rear view wing mirror and blind spot right? And if so should I do all of these as I indicate or when?

Great video just a reminder, though railway checks are also required or the examiner will fail you once it adds up to more than 2 critical errors

Yeah do your mirror checks before indicating so that you know its safe to turn and there's nothing in your blind spot

Also, when accelerating or decelerating, you have to look at your rear mirror.
