I built a similar delta loop. It was good for short skip. I used 6' of RG-11 coax I bought from DX Engineering. I used the formula 1005÷frequency in MHz.
Hi John, since you are the man making all kind of antennas, how about rectangular (11 meters full wave) or Hentenna? I hear good things about these antennas but don't have space to make it happen. From my research, they do well and much better than ones we know; 1/2, 5/8, 3/4 waves. Just giving my opinion to the handyman!
Is the velocity factor of the 75 ohm coax 0.83? If so, at a freq of 27.385, the calculator shows 7.4528 feet which translates to 7' 5-7/16". Plus, I would assume the measured length would be from where the coax shield and insulated center conductor diverge. So your 1/4 wave stub might be a little short, depending on where you measure from. BTW, I'm just a dumb old bricklayer; know nothing about electronics. Love your channel.

I figure you could add a 7 ohm resistor o get the 50 ohm needed, but that may affect your swr and have to make that adjustment. I'm not 100%, but it sounds reasonable in my mind.
Oh another thing that short piece a real thin coax you said do used was a 7’4” why do you fuse the coax made like a choke 8 or 9 times with that Wrapped around a 4 inch pipe strap to would that make a difference it’s like a choke will get the ohms back down because I watch a lot of him operators using a choke for ohms
the 75 ohm coax does not need to be wound for this antenna, and mine is a temporary setup, so I just ran the coax down the mast. Take care Shep, Happy Easter.
What wire size wire would you recommend for using 500 watts on this setup. I am going to build 1. I have everything on order now. Thx again for the video
Just to ask out of every antenna you've built or own which one do you feel is the best range local and DX and great receive I've kinda thought about either the most common Antron 99 or possibly the Maco V58.
My favorite of all my antennas is My Homemade 2 element Yagi on the flat side. It works really well for DX, and most of my locals are also on flat side. The Antron 99 is a good antenna, and very easy to setup....But the Maco V58 is a better antenna. Thanks for watching, Take care.
Mr Mower Junkie, you should bore them with some of the details. It's always best to explain why you do something when teaching anything. At least that it's a quarter wave stub, a coaxial transformer, the same principle use for phasing. A few things I want to mention: I take it that's RG6. It's mass produced like no other coax. I also assume you used around 80% VF for your calculations. Now, yes you can question the quality of the coax, however I would be mainly concerned with the velocity factor. The consistency, reliability, QC. Although you did say you have an analyser, maybe you trimmed the length with that. Anyway, I would be inclined to use a military spec coax like a good RG59, with 95% shielding. Of course this will have a 66% VF. The other thing, we estimate the loop to be around 100 ohms in this case, but to see a 50 ohm input impedance with a 75 ohm stub, the loop would have to be around 113 ohms. If your stub is cut to a 1/4 wavelength, as per VF with 43 ohms at the radio end, this would mean your antenna has an impedance of around 130 ohms.
Let me start out by saying, I don't do these videos to teach people, I do the videos just to show what I'm up to. But I'm always happy to help others with their antenna projects. Thanks for watching, 73's from 151 SC.

@@MowerJunkie I loved the design, I'm a ham myself, but I still get on CB too. Have an old Midland 40 channel on top of my Kenwood TS-2000 amateur rig. I have a Maco V quad. Can I build a delta loop out of it? I cant get a decent swr on the V quad. Also can I use the Gamma match from the V quad on the Delta loop. Please try to respond.
I'm not sure I understand you, Because the V-Quad is a Delta loop antenna. double check all your measurements to insure they are all correct. if it's put together correctly you should have an SWR below 1.5. then fine tune it with the Gamma match.
@@MowerJunkie Thanks for the reply. I think my problem is that the V quad is way too close to my 5/8 verticle. As I turn the driven element of the beam away from the verticle, the swr goes flat. Looks like I'm going to have to move the verticle. Thanks. I scribed and liked.

Got a Chevy truck collection going on over there? 🙂
Yup, temporary storage for a friend. Take care Joe, 73's
@@MowerJunkie Hey let me ask you a Jeep Cherokee question. Does your Cherokee's rear hatch latch have a screw that comes loose but doesn't fall out, or tighten back up?
@@JoeR203 I have the old style with the push button, it does not have any visible screws.
@@JoeR203 it's probably an internal nut that is spinning in place
@@MowerJunkie Just to clarify. I'm talking about the part on the bottom of the hatch that clamps onto the ring/hoop/hook to secure the hatch closed.
Would pool brush pipe will work?
Probably, but I think it would have trouble supporting it self in a strong wind.
Is it really directional, so close to the ground?
How much gain does this have over a halfwave for example? Sounds like an easy antenna to build.
Is a delta loop considered vertical or horizontal polarized?
this one is horizontal, But it can be setup as a vertical too. Thanks for watching, 73's
Nothing new about the Delta Loop. I had one in 1984. It was a two element by Weirner Wulf. Out performed three element beam.
Love it thanks for letting me know cheers CT4870 thanks 👍🇬🇧
can you make a vid on how you built that antenna tilt test stand, i would love to make one like that
I made a video of it when I built it. ua-cam.com/video/pLHApmOQbno/v-deo.html
So .... what about that further testing?
Might want to try a wound toroid balun rather than the matching stub.
this antenna was just an experiment to see if I liked a Delta loop. This past weekend I put together a Maco VQ3, 3 element Delta loop antenna with a Gamma match, So far I'm loving it!
@@MowerJunkie I loved the design, I'm a ham myself, but I still get on CB too. Have an old Midland 40 channel on top of my Kenwood TS-2000 amateur rig. I need to upgrade my CB radio to one with SSB though.
CB was my first introduction to radio as a kid, so it still has a special place in my heart.
I do a lot of experimentation myself. I currently have a whip for CB and an Inverted L for 160-10 meters, Comet GP95 for 2 meters, 440 MHz and 1.2 Ghz. I run a Kenwood TS2000 for the amateur bands, its a ham shack in a box, cover 160 meters-1.2 Ghz minus the 60 meter band. I'm setting up a satellite antenna array, I really want to make a contact with the ISS. I've tried using my handheld radio and yagi antenna, but the guys running 100 watts over power my 5 watts.
Have fun on the air MIke//W8MLD.
nice, put a 9 to 1 on there and you will not need the stub. I love loops.
That's amazing
Make your top wire 8" longer, should drop swr down to zip on 38
It would be nice to if you make 6 element I think it could be done
i wish i can find a metter for a Uniden washington base radio
Amazing
Bolehkah saya meminta ukuran antena delta loop untuk bekerja di 27 mhz
Channel 94 ?
nice antenna a small router would make it perfect
I know it, I've already been thinking of adding a rotor. Thanks for watching, 73's
@@MowerJunkie 12 Volt wiper motor.
could this be done just using copper wire?
Yes.
Instead of using 70 ohm coax could u just use 50 ohm coax right threw thanks
it has to have either a 4-1 Balun, or the tuned piece of 75 ohm coax. They lower the resistance, making it safe to transmit on.
What length in metres do i need the 75 ohm coax to be thanks
it's been a long time since I built it, and I don't remember the length. But I'm pretty sure it's in the video.
Thanks i just realised i have a Foxtel dish on my roof that has 75 ohm coax on it so i can just take the coax from that
Why can’t copper wires be connected to aluminum,I have always done that since the 60’s I mean I’m not big time into the way you build them, I don’t have the money to buy all the high end meters that you have, just a old swr that’s it
copper will corrode when connected to aluminum. Thanks for watching, 73's
@@MowerJunkie I forgot All about that it corroding. Ever since I got into my ^0's and got lime disease, It causes Memory lost, They didn't catch I had it for 3 years, Now i have bad joint Problems and everything Else Thank you for your Help
the way you have it there is it for vertical?
this antenna is set up for horizontal polarization. Thanks for watching, 73's
