Lets not over think this. It all boils down to net income. If a store has high enough revenue and theft is low in addition to overhead (rent, labor, etc), they will have positive net income. The store is profitable. If revenue drops or theft increases even a little or rent increases ,the store is not profitable. Thats what Target looked at. We dont need a video for this.

Wild guess this journalist doesn't live in East Harlem or even shopped at this store. I live nearby, every time I shopped there, I'd see people steal. Additionally the facility it was located in was a mess and the elevators were always broken which often made it inaccessible.
Worse yet, 911 calls in this area will often have you waiting hours for a response. I once saw people trying to break into a building nearby, police finally showed up hours later long after the thieves were gone. As a resident of the area, im just surprised they stayed open as long as they did.

The bottom line is economics is a science and all businesses must make between 5% and 10% profit after all expenses in order to be solvent. If they are making that profit, they will not close because their goal is to make a profit however if their slim margins are shaved due to theft or super high insurance rates due to local crime or unsustainable minimum labor pay laws or high County taxes or a combination thereof, the highly experienced and intelligent accountants and actuaries recommend either moving or closing down the establishments.

Maybe the surge in shoplifting, is because these corporations unfairly raising prices way past the inflation rate. In the industry I work in, our profit margin is about 10% a year. That means that after every employee and Bill is paid, including inflation. At the end of the year our growth is 10%.
Wal Mart and target and these other large, practically monopolistic corporations, are making 50%. And they're doing it by charging us more. While we suffer with stagnant pay, they're making money hand over fist. And they're doing it on purpose, because they know everyone will blame the politicians instead of the corporations. Because they don't want too much power on the left, because they might have to actually start paying taxes like the rest of us.

Oh really, not like when you shop there you have to pay inflated prices to cover for all the theft, because a company can't run on deficit.
So they raised prices over inflation and law abiding citizens turned to thiefs overnight, makes perfect sense that argument, it's so easy to cross the line ain't it.
Have you noticed that actual goods you buy get more expensive way above the stated inflation.
Ever wondered why that is besides the easy explanation of "corporate greed"?
You think the inflation announced by the Government should perfectly match the increased price of your pasta?
I can see you relate to the working class, so I guess you have no plans of ever opening a business yourself to see what it's like.

It’s both the corporations AND the politicians/government. Politicians can do a lot to make inflation go up.. and democrats these last 4-5 years have seemingly been dead set on doing everything in their power to increase inflation. Biden and his economic secretary both have on camera said that “inflation is a good thing”..
But no.. the surge in shoplifting is 99.98% on the politicians shoulders via their ridiculously soft on crime approach policies. It’s true we needed some reform to our legal system.. but the democrats went wasaay to far with it. People have to much incentive to shoplift these days and especially if they live in a liberal controlled city/county.. cops aren’t even called on them most of the time and on the rare occasion they are.. it will take them so long to get there that the suspect is already long gone.. then on the rarer occasion the cops are called and show up on time.. there is a 50/50 odds that the cops won’t arrest them unless they have a warrant for a serious felony… then on the even rarer still occasion that the cops do arrest the suspect.. the suspect will just be able to bail out a couple hours later and ignore their court dates.. rinse and repeat. That is why there is a surge in crime and especially theft.

They closed one in a part of Portland that has very little crime. Didn't make sense to anyone living here. There's something else going on. Personally I think they're closing stores because of more and more people shopping online. That dramatically increased because of the pandemic. In fact I strictly order online now. Groceries and everything. It's easier and actually cheaper for me.

Target might've gotten the new area at a record low price due to this shoplifting phenomenon going on and with hundreds of stores leaving New York. When crime is bad in an area it hurts the real estate in that area. All of us law abiding Americans are hoping this crime wave is just a fluke and will pass. Then the real estate in that area will shoot back up again. It's a smart strategy if that's the case.

It’s unfortunate that their exit will discourage other large retail stores from going into that neighborhood.

One of the largest and most reputable American owned companies has closed many locations because of rampant retail theft plaguing business nationwide. And then there is propaganda pushing NBC. We won't cover the facts. No, no, we can't trust Target is telling the truth. We must stick to the agenda and have 0 integrity journalism. We have to spew a bunch of bull to try and fool the average American. This is all Targets fault for closing stores.
