    Hey Rad Potential!
So I just got done with a marathon this evening watching all 4 or 5 videos from this build ( I lost track ). Excellent job!! Your a gifted communicator and very impressive scope of knowledge you have. I was also very impressed with all the camera angles and the fluidity you had balancing recording and literally balancing the motor with your knees!
I do have one question for this last part.
Is there any concern about having the superglue in there? I mean isn’t the design of these little triangle corners on the apex seals like that for a reason? I imagine the bond with the glue would break quickly which would be fine but then it seems like some super glue residue would be trapped in there and interfere with the fluctuation you want for thermal expansion.
How did it end up working out for your friend BTW?
Well anyways I just subscribed and your awesome man!!

I glue mine with Loctite 495, works great but will still break apart when the engine turns over.

I’m using the Atkins coolant pressure tester after a rebuild. Starting at 21 psi after an hour drops to 8 psi. .21 psi/min. Clamped down the water pump gasket with the tester to 30 Nm and around 24 Nm on the intake plugs. Can’t hear any hissing noises anywhere it’s plugged off. Pretty frustrating kind of wish I had this pineapple racing unit instead seems like better quality. Gonna try filling the engine up with coolant and try pressurizing again to see if coolant is coming out of the plugs. Wish me luck it’s not internal 😔

Update: it was leaking at the rear iron top plug. Adding coolant helped find it. Held 20 psi for 2 hours. Thank you

New Mazda apex seals come pre-glued. I built my engine a few months ago with new Mazda seals and no gluing was necessary.
Also, for the coolant pressure tester, if you smear Vaseline on the rubber gasket it seals very well and no need to crank down on the bolts and risk snapping a bolt.

I couldn't understand why you didn't already really but glad to see you may start now.
    Edit:
If it's cold the glue sucks. Also less is more

What are your thoughts on the 1980 leather sport model in solar gold? I read they only made 500, mostly manual trans. Mine is automatic trans with ac and a wing all original, can’t find another example anywhere. Have you seen any?

    Hi Eric.
Will you sell that white SA ?
Or any other short body for sale (78-79)?
    Thanks.

Random question, but do you use premix for your rx7's or do you use the omp pump for them??

    • @RADPotential

Almost always premix only any more. The OMP is great for a daily driver. But I run my stuff pretty hard these days. Just easier to premix.

I never glue mine. With 2 piece seals, I slide down the apex seal and then use the large apex seal spring to push down the small spring. When that spring hits the inner landing of the apex seal and stops, I then push down the large spring. Then I just put the corner piece in place and some Vaseline on top. Once you put the plates down, everything squeezes in place and corner piece will wedge into position. With 3 piece Apex seals, I do the exact same thing but slide both seals in the rotor groove at the same time and repeat everything else just the same.
Edit: The problem with glueing the seals is if you don't glue the corner piece in correctly, the corner edge may not contact the side plate to break it free which will create a compression leak around that seal. Makes for hard 1st starting until heat expansion breaks the bond.

For sure!! Thats how I had always done it until I had this issue. Given the issues I fought doing this build. I think im going to keep doing it the old way haha

What different type of seals are there and what are best to use for different situations? How come you needed to glue the seals rather then just putting them in separated?

OEM mazda all the way. You can find the kit on line and get rhe individual part numbers. And then order from a mazda dealership

Try goopy unbreakable one piece seals they are literally unbreakable..oh and u got to decrease the seals before u glue them really well oh and put the glued part down and use hobby ca glue with activator spray from the hobby shop

You think you can do a quick video talking about the market for the rotaries. Best way to find a deal or something. I know everything went up in price but the rotaries seem to be on the lower end of the spectrum. Rotaries are the future lol.

Use more Vaseline. Shouldn't need glue. Once u put the side plate down that should hold it all together. Intake ports that are ported too big will cause this problem.

You have to use actual super glue, gorilla glue doesn't work well at all. It's very different stuff..
