What I meant is I have seen this guy's name for ages and I can't remember he's gone even once past the quarterfinals. Well, granted, this time around he beat Murray (way past his prime).       But I did see something doubtful in your final point, about "way past his prime": whos prime? They are only one year apart so they matched physically and/or mentally evenly.

    Murray has absolutely nothing to be ashamed of. He played an amazing match. It’s just that Bautista Agut was on fire on this particular occasion. Anytime he’s in that type of mood, it’s very difficult for anyone to stop him

      Agreed, I have more respect for the loser of this match than the winner. The last match before this one, what Murray pulled off was without comparison. I am very sad to see him out of the Australian Open. When there are several matches in a row that take everything out of an athlete, then he does often not have the same energy level anymore either. This is one sport where top fitness can be compromised in so many ways.

      ALso murray just played 2 incredible players with a 5 setter in both and murray is getting older and near the end of his tennis career and he has limits. As you can see murray continued to drop shot and he wasnt putting much into his shots

    Obviously the crowd were gunning for Murray. I think there was little respect for Bautista. It’s sad to see this at a tennis match. The crowd were quite hostile. Fully deserved win for Bautista. Excellent player!

      yep agreed. That's why the reaction at the end. It wasn't against Murray who took offense to it. It was to the hostile crowd. Go Roberto. He lost against Tommy Paul but has had a great few weeks. Well done

    I loved the match from both sides of the court and the crowd obviously supported Murray WAY WAY more than RBA. But I honestly felt disheartened by what I saw at the end. RBA's shout, and then that no word handshake. I did not like that. These are two really good competitors. I hope we can have a little more heart after we win or lose. That being said, I have never played such a high stake match. But that's just my hope as a viewer.

      Nah I disagree. I think the crowd went over the top, Same with the Shelton Popyrin match. Loud applause for any RBA error and little applause for a great winner. It was shocking so the crowd caused the ending. It was 3 or whatever hours of pent up frustration releasing his body and sorry but Andy got the brunt of it. Good on RBA. It just shows how much it means to him

    RBA 's precision and speed is off the charts. How is he not in the Top10? Murray's drop shots did not work but he had a successful tournament. Maybe he will go far at Indian Wells and Miami?

      Maybe because his serve is not so powerful. But the guy has improved a lot his backhand (I see the same in Ruud). Is incredible how professional players continues improving his shots over the years.

    It takes a lot of focus to pull off a win like this, knowing that the crowd is rooting for your opponent, so you've gotta respect Bautista's focus. Some great tennis from Murray over the last few days, so I'm sure he'll not be too disappointed with this loss. Playing 2 five-setters back-to-back certainly didn't help but that's the nature of this sport.

    Murray sometimes can be a tad dramatic. He flounders and screams when he misses, but then hits running winners without any hobbling...hmmmm

      Honestly, I think it was just RBA still caught in the tail end of coming down from the momentary adrenaline high of his defiant celebration, somewhat at the crowd, who appeared to be very vocally pro-Murray by majority. So I think the briefness of his body language at the handshake was more due to that, than it was any particular gesture to Andy himself. That was a lot to get through for RBA, and I don't fault him for being a little shaky/abrupt right after the fact.

    Batista Agutí never gives a warm handshake to anyone, quite unfriendly personality. Andy hates to lose and his handshake can go either way dependent on the respect he has for his opponent. I don’t think he cares for B A anyway and this was only made worse by B A’s aggressive reaction at the end of the match. I have respect for B A game and tenacity but I can’t stand his anti social personality.

    Andy Murray is an incredible, world-class, elite athlete and multiple Olympic gold medalist. And yet watching him it feels like you're seeing a wee guy from two towns over competing on the big stage for the first time. From the noise on the court it's like he's crying out, "Wit?!" every time his opponent hits the ball, and "Get tae!" every time he sends it back. 🙂

    Andy was spent. You could see it in his movement. He hardly had the energy to get fired up vocally. I like RBA but he caught Andy in the right round after those long matches. Didn't look to be much love at the net hand shake?

    No shame for murray..playing a day and a half with barely any sleep after that match against kokki.. but he did seem to feel sorry for himself for far to long when in my eyes that match was there for the taking.. he used to beat this guy very comfortably pre surgery so I was optimistic at the level he was at that he'd beat RBA.. but imo Andy is just as good a tennis player as the big 3,,mentally he's nowhere near and that's why he's not up there with them 3 but always a legend in his own right..anyone snaps your hands for his career. Hopefully though it's the start of a murray comeback..so optimistic after this event

      Murray didn't have to look at him. It was mainly due to the disrespectful crowd than to Murray himself. They were pathetic. Making huge noise for his errors and giving him nothing on his winners

      @@jasonfrey2683 No, all of the matches pre injury went Andy Murray’s way. All in straight sets on different surfaces. First match RBA ever won against him was the 2019 “retirement” match.
      RBA like the nextgen lol, has to depend on injuries to win 😂
