Honestly, I think more channels should try American craft beer. Our cheap stuff has its place but I think the craft scene is where you'll find the stuff that actually rivals what you can find in Europe which is why European breweries are actually taking some inspiration from Americans, especially for IPAs
Agreed, the American craft beers are very tasty and able to compete internationally, but that just started in the last years. The beers I tried have the longer history in the US and I just wanted to try some classics :)

Two big factors that played a role into what led to such poor tasting beers was the scar of prohibition and the fact that many European immigrants in the late 19th and early 20th century often preferred clear looking beers but American barley had too high a protein content and left it very cloudy, which led to the use of corn and other grains available to them to achieve such a clarity.

Shiner beer is a Bavarian beer. It's named after the town it's brewed in, and that town is full of Czech's and Czech Germans. The story is that when they immigrated to Texas, they didn't like American style beer, so they opened a brewery and brewed it "like back home". So you get a legitimate Bavarian bock beer.

So a can of Guinness Draught has the same amount of alcohol as a Bud Light but far more of a flavor profile. Also no Sam Adams or Blue Moon, depending on the brew a Samuel Adams can clock in at the 5% range and a Blue Moon is 5.2%
Shiner Holiday Cheer is my favorite light beer, it's really good! But as the name sort of implies, it is a seasonal beer. My 2nd favorite lighter beer is Kona Big Wave. At least for nationally available beers. My favorite all-around beer though is a local one called Castle Danger - Cream Ale, it's delicious, and has a cool name. I like dark malty beers too, my local favorite is Lake Monster - Last Fathom, also a cool name!
As a young man from Texas in late college Shiner is one of my favorites, and it’s a beer started by Germans who missed the taste of home, there is a lot of German culture in Texas and your number 1 and 3 beers are brewed in Texas 👍
Anheuser-Busch was founded by two Germans, Eberhard Anheuser and Adolphus Busch. Beer made by that company is most likely the closest Americans will have to German beer. Should’ve tried a standard Busch, on the cans it claims to be Bavarian in flavor.🤷🏼♂️

I thought, ok this is in a can and should be somewhat tolerable......wrong. What a junk and it went down the sink. :) For so many years here I only found one decent American beer whithout the BS, honey,barley,orange peel and other strange ingredients which have no place in the recipies and the is Alstadt Kolsch.

As a German yourself, you should have much more experience in beer tasting ;) I know I do, and I'm Greek. We are not famous with our ale. Also, about the name Budweiser, an American company stole the original name of the beer that was then being imported from the Czech Republic to the US called Budweiser. And since it was a big hit, they tried to reproduce it, by also stealing the name. They couldn't, of course, so the Americans ended up with a huge name dispute on their hands and a bad beer that, for some reason, lasted so long and even massively export it today outside of the country for like $1.5 / bottle. Something tells me that the original Budweiser is now banned for import into the USA because of this very stupid legal reason.
In My country the only American beer sold in supermarket is the Bud that's pretty good. One day I met in vacation a family from Puerto Rico that told me that USA people living in Europe, nickname European beer as "wine beer" since it's stronger.
I honestly dont know how most of our giant beer companies stay afloat. I like the more regional beers we have in the midwest like grain belt or new glarus brewing co. But then again the midwest has had a pretty large ethnic german population for a long time.
True American Brews are American Craft. Macro brews are what people think of when they're talking about American Beer. I'd wholeheartedly recommend Symphonic Chronic, Grower Direct and Fresh Haze Deschutes IPA's.
The reason he likes that Shiner is because it's the real deal. German influence brewing, must respect it. Also the Miller lite was a Chicago beer at one point named Miester Brau, which was german brewed in Chicago before Wisconsin acquired them and slapped their name on it.

I have very limited experience with German beer, it has been limited to Beck's, St. Pauli Girl and Paulaner. Perhaps my American palette is unsophisticated, but to me they all tasted the same, and all three were very close in flavor to mass produced American beers with a good amount of skunk. I tend to now stick to American craft beers, but would like to try higher end German brews. Any suggestions?
Hey there! A lot of the Pilsener beers from Europe taste very similar, I agree! The beer kinds themselves do have very distinct tastes though. I would try a type of Kellerbier, Schwarzbier, Weißbier, Export, Pilsener, and Hefeweizen next to each other and you will see there is a big difference :) And yes, the American craft beers are very good!!! People should say Michelob Ultra is for diabetics. That's why I drink it. I can still enjoy beer as long as I don't drink it with food. Michelob Ultras carb's are so low the stuff barely even bumps my sugar up, and that's while sitting on my ass. If I'm doing any physical activity my sugar actually drops (as long as I don't eat on top of it).
