Thanks again for watching and supporting my channel.
also very cool that you can set up your DAW and use a VST synth or instrument and have it go through an Axe patch!
Awesome. Need to try this with the Nova.
I would very much enjoy continued synth exploration. Might you consider finding an earlier Ragdoll mix and add synth or remix with synth? Thanks for sharing and Be Well All!
yeah i need to do some more synth remixes!
After this video, I started to love this tool more.
Those pads are just... otherwordly beautiful.
Great video!! So informative, I hope you do more. I use axe fx for synth and guitar and as a high quality audio interface. It does so much. I also love using the axe fx built in synth.
yeah it's such a great all round piece of gear!
YEAHH DIS REALLY COOL!!!!
This didn't get much traction but....damnnnnn. Awesome. I have a Hydrasynth Explorer. I should run it through my FM9! I'd love to see more with these two.
Edit: oh there's another video! Sweet!
Way cool Leon.
thank you for doing this video. there's loads of videos on UA-cam that feature effects pedals being used on synths, but none with the Axe-FX III. i can only assume that's because people who buy the Axe-FX III are mostly guitar players.
"Good Morning Leon!"
Very Cool Brother!
Thanks for bringing us along on your
Sonic journey! Be Well All!
Good morning! What's news mate?
I'm sure there is a lot of fun that could be had using midi automation from the hydra on various effects in the AF. Especially given the stepped LFOs.
Great video thanks. Yes please more videos 🙏
You got it!
more of these videos please
Would be cool to hear an arpeggiator patch like that along with a dual delay in parallel with the reverb 🤔
Amazing venture Leon. I like some older Prog. stuff as well but also due to my niece and nephew and a Buckethead CD he turned me onto around oh, 20 years ago when he did the whole Chicken Coupe thing with Les Claypool and Bootsy Collins actually just bought a Korg Wavestate, and also have the Arturia Keything for MIDI and I guess through Ableton or Arturia you have access to like 5000 Synth Files. Now I do not have the AXE-FXlll, I do have the Headrush full size Board and a Helix lt perhaps some of this is all universally interchangeable ? 83 Thumbs up isn't too Shabby for a Guitar Channel ! Cheers M8, from San Clemente,CA.
Ableton is an absolutely phenomenal DAW if you like looping/midi/synths. i need to dig into it some more.
A M A Z I N G !! !! !! !! !!
I heard you sneak in that Subdivisions riff. 😁
This would be great live even with FM9 by putting keys on a stand with a 1 guitar band for intros, bridges ect...
The FM9 would be the preferred pairing as you stated. The audio/midi integration would be unreal and a guitar could easily be integrated.
Oooh yes!
YESSIR!
This is one I have been long waiting for, I was wondering if this might be what Neal Schon is using in some of his songs (Faithfully). Could there be way to make this sound more like a brass instrument. Not sure if this is a way out there question. As always Thanks Leon, great stuff!!!
The lead part I am referring to is at 1:30 mark of the song
I think there's a Roland Jupiter 8 being used on the Frontiers album. There's a bunch of Jupiter style patches on this!
@@LeonTodd do you where I could find these?
Great vid, thanks for making this. If more synth people knew about the capabilities of these devices they would be in heaven. Feel like Fractal Audio is missing a significant market. The Axe FX 3 is seriously up there with the Eventide H9000 in terms of capabillities.
Yeah it makes so much sense for a lot of different applications
Ah, it is the Hydrasynth… I mistook it for the Take 5 the other week. Nice machine!
So many fun quotes! 😎
Do synths were recorded like guitars recorded back then ? (Synth-amp-cab-mic to mixing board )
It really depends what kind of sound the synth players and producers wanted. I remember reading Eddie Van Halen ran his Oberheim OB-Xa into his Marshall amps/cabs for some of the synth sounds on the 1984 album.
Also, back then often the best way to get a good reverb sound was to put a cabinet in a room, then record the sound of the room.
As @@zoomosis really depends. I'd say the "standard" way was probably to just DI them through a console but it's also been a "normal" thing to run things like Hammond organs and Rhodes pianos through Leslie cabs and guitar amps too.
ASM Hydrasynth + Axe-FX III = Well over $5,000. Great if you can afford it :)
I suspect most of the outboard effects you're using are available onboard the Hydrasynth if you dig into the menus. The Axe-FX does look fun to use though.
For anyone on a smaller budget the Behringer Deepmind 12 (or possibly the Korg Minilogue XD) is worth a look. Both have a whole bunch of onboard effects.
Also the Zoom MS-70CDR is a great budget effects pedal for synth players.
Yeah it's pretty premium. One thing I like about a lot of modern synth stuff is that the expensive= better doesn't really hold true any more. I really want to try some of the Dreadbox stuff.
The Deepmind is an awesome piece of gear, especially given the price. I love mine, get lost in it for hours coming up with stuff.
As an owner of the desktop version I can say that chopping off the $400 or so dollars on the keybed isn't a huge loss. I've recommended the Deepmind for years but at $800 ($600 if you can deal with a worse programming experience on the Explorer) it's such a steal for what you get. Being able to do things like parallel oscillator synch and pulse width modulation between multiple cycles is a lot of power, and it's not something I've seen in VSTs.
@@shadowseal22 With the desktop version of the Hydrasynth you miss out on poly aftertouch and also the ribbon, both of which are unique to synths in that price range, I think. Fair enough if you don't need those.
Oddly the price of the desktop and keyboard versions of the Deepmind 12 seem to be very close, at least in Australia.
@@zoomosis I use an MPE controller so it's not a huge deal for me. The hydra natively supports poly AT from any source, and I find something like a Linnstrument to be a better means of control and the keyboard on the keys. I'm genuinely really bummed because I had wished they came out with a 16 voice desktop since I don't particularly want the mega keyboard, but having already hacked a lot of binaural patches into the hydra the multi timbrality seems like a no brainer.
I bought a couple midi keyboards last week. Can't wait to doodle around with them. Wish i had an AE3!! What would be the best Axe Effects 3 alternative ish for a few hundred bucks instead of a few thousand!. Another reason 80s were the best. SYNTHS AND ELECTRONIC MUSIC. If you want to hear some trippy cool stuff look up Jean Michael Jarre. We used to listen to that stuff off our dial....unreal.....80s man, nothing better.
Oxygen!!!
@@LeonTodd Yeah man!!
Can you use a fractal fm3 on a synth?
Yeah it's awesome
