This album shows Sabbath's continued evolution as the songs reveal a new level of sophistication. "Killing Yourself to Live" and "Spiral Architect" also stand as some of their finest work.
A really evocative song, together with Spiral Architect. This album is chock full of bangers! Killing Yourself to Live is the one I listen to the most.
1973 - what a fantastic time to be 12 years old! I bought this album and Selling England by the Pound by Genesis on the same day and barely left my room for a week. :)
Geezer wrote the lyrics. He said the title refers to sperm and conception..saying those guys have to be acrobats to get to the egg. Song is about life from conception to death and the afterlife all in pursuit of happiness.
Spot on. You can’t fully appreciate this song unless you read the lyrics… when little worlds collide (sperm/egg) I’m trapped inside my embryonic cell (conception) forgotten memories cast down the never ending well (transitioning from one life to the next and forgetting those memories)…damn, that shit is deep
God I love this song. I love Bills drumming when the track goes up tempo. I quite often catch myself air drumming to that bit. It's a big call but I think it's my favourite Sabbath track with Ozzy. Watching this has reminded me I haven't played the album for a few months, that's tomorrow at work sorted. All the best lads, I enjoy what you do 👍
A particularly mysterious song inspired by Geezer's pondering "who selects what sperm gets through to the egg." The "embryonic cell" apparently is the enigmatic entity making this decision. Early on the song hints at a deeper understanding of the world and the secrets the superhuman narrator holds. Despite this entity's role as a prophet or seer, their uncertainty about the future parallels the paradoxical idea of an "unborn child " influencing the destinies of all conceived children. The lyrics also seem to hint at the cyclical nature of life and the interconnectedness of past and present. The message of embracing love as a life-giving force and rejecting hate as a path to spiritual decay and emptiness is a profound one indeed. Overall, the song emphasizes the significance of finding meaning in the interconnectedness of all life while also acknowledging the inevitability of death and the mysteries that lie beyond.
Geezer Butler's attempt to send his mind back to within the womb and express what (if one were able to express such at such a time-which one ISN'T!) the thoughts and feelings surrounding that/involved in that experience, might be. Pretty spectacular! 🤘🤘 Spectacular album. Some of the Sabs' best writing, ever! [And THIS is coming from someone who considers themselves: "a Master Of Reality devotee"! No less! ⚡] ⚡⚡⚡⚡🔥🔥
You guys are the best .. I wish you were up here with the gang in Canada when we got every Sabbath vinyl.... you would be pushing 70 now, but it was such a great musical era .. this whole album is another masterpiece.. thanks guy
The last two songs on this album really shows their artistic side. So much melody in Ozzys vocals. Looking forward to it. FYI. Rick Wakemen does keybords on Sabbra Cadabbra.
Yeah, more from that great album, man does this song have one of the most haunting riffs ever? Their song writing just kept on chugging along, another excellent example. Keep on rocking! 🎵🎸🎤🎹🎶
Such an incredible sound, love that slow grind at the beginning. And Che’s little smile a few seconds in was priceless! I can certainly relate. It’s amazing how music can move us deeply. I always love it when I’m listening to some great rock and realize I have a huge involuntary smile. This album will do that to you.
I just subscribed to your channel and checking out your reviews to especially Black Sabbath songs.. i’ve seen the one that you saw live in Paris.. but you have to listen to the whole concert. It’s fucking unbelievable. Just type in Black Sabbath 1970 in Paris watch the whole concert. again it’s fucking so unbelievable.
Hell yeah gents!! This track is fire!! 🔥 Che’s grin once the guitar harmony started at the beginning.. seems like Che was way chonged in this episode.. loved it! 😁💨
Next one will be Fluff gorgeous instrumental with Tony on acoustic guitar, flute and piano.. Then they get back to some progressive rock Sabbra Cadabra.
"Fluff" an acoustic number, ...no lyrics, a pretty, soft repetitive instrumental. You may want to combine the review with the song directly after which is "sabra Cadabra"
More peak Ozzy and it continues through Sabotage. The beginnings of Prog Metal. I love your album by album song by song reactions, its truly the only way to appreciate the rise of Metal through its progenitors.
Ozzy sounds like an oracle on a mountain top delivering his message to the masses of thousands below with a background of heavenly music coming from the clouds behind him. I’m just saying.
Man, this song is dope! Is a B-Side but is one of my favorites of Sabbath. This album is amazing, sometimes I put this in my top-1 from them, but I'm always changing my mind about which one is the best, because there are at least 5 albuns which would be debatable. From this album, Sabbra Cadabbra, Killing Yourself to Live and Spiral Architect are another 3 "musts" if you're looking to get to know the band's discography in depth. But I'd pay attention to Fluff, too. A beautiful acoustic instrumental track.
It just occurred to me that the guitar tone in the intro riff of this song is a bit like Brian May's guitar tone at the time. Just listen to the Queen 1 & 2 albums which were released around about the same time. Nonetheless, I appreciate this song very much.
A few people have been commenting that you guys won't like this album, and we've been going back and forth with me saying both of you will really like it!! Maybe more songs than others, but this album a Gem to me!!! So far I'm winning the argument!
If you want to see a couple of amazing guitar solo's , amazing drums and bass check out Ozzy Osbourne's Mr. Crowley Live with Randy Rhoads. Might want to google Aleister Crowley because the song is about him. You won't be disappointed. Randy Rhoads was the best EVER in my view but he only played on two albums. He died at the age of 25 while on tour with Ozzy in a tragic plane crash .You should read about that too. Would love to see your reaction.
Next stop, Fluff. A nice tune, but the one after that....Sabbra Cadabra is another Epic Sabbath tune. Che was looking a little tipsy on this one, one too many Che? 👀
I love this whole album, I'm jealous that I can't hear it for the first time again
I'm jelly too. Imagine all the tunes they have yet to discover for the first time!!
One of the funkiest sounding songs off this album and one of the more mysterious songs in their catalog.
That was the height of diplomacy. I'm going to say mysterious more often.
@@danmayberry1185 my Sabbath brother.
Prototype groove metal
@robertpetre9378 yeah they were definitely in their experimental stages around that time.
Exactly. Great song that few people know. They have these types of songs throughout their catalog. Their phrase changes are unbelievable
*Just remember Love is Life and hate is living death.
Treat your life for what its worth and live for every breath.*
- Geezer Butler
This track is an example of why Sabbath and Zeppelin were light years ahead of everyone else.
Facts
Bring on Spiral Architect! This is a boss record !
Love it, love it, love it! One of the best Black Sabbath songs never played
My favorite track of my favorite sabbath album... although "killing yourself to live" is pretty awesome too
The song is mesmerizing and haunting one of the best songs Sabbath ever wrote
This album shows Sabbath's continued evolution as the songs reveal a new level of sophistication. "Killing Yourself to Live" and "Spiral Architect" also stand as some of their finest work.
In this life you can only trust yourself and the first 6 Black Sabbath albums!
It is TRUE my brother
Truth Sir!
A really evocative song, together with Spiral Architect. This album is chock full of bangers! Killing Yourself to Live is the one I listen to the most.
This is apparently the first Black Sabbath song where the bass player and main lyricist, Geezer Butler, came up with the guitar riff
1973 - what a fantastic time to be 12 years old! I bought this album and Selling England by the Pound by Genesis on the same day and barely left my room for a week. :)
Wow! What a time to be 12! I feel that same way when I was 12 in 1992!
I was 12 then too. I got this one and Deep Purple's Who Do We Think We Are at the same time.
Both great albums.
Geezer wrote the lyrics. He said the title refers to sperm and conception..saying those guys have to be acrobats to get to the egg. Song is about life from conception to death and the afterlife all in pursuit of happiness.

Exactly, and he wrote the RIFF too! Talked about it in his recent book..
Nothing beats Ozzy era Sabbath's groove and deep lyrics.
The real genius rock band of 70s
they were even better in the 80's
This is one of my all time fave vintage sabbath tracks
GREAT REACTION! One of Sabbath's BEST deep cut songs ever!
You guys are So badass not to say a word during that Jam!!! Best reactions show guys!!!!
All the best lads, I enjoy what you do 👍
You have to let your body sleep to let your soul live on 🎸🙏🏻
Next play Fluff and Sabbra Cadabra together.
Those drums are sexy as hell.
Black Sabbath. NONE better . Few as good.
Hypnotic groove
My favorite Sabbath song.
Dallas-Arbiter Rangemaster doing some heavy lifting and slicing through the mix like butter. So good.
Now that's metal
love this song one of my favorites...bloodys my favorite sabbath album
Yeahhhhh Laa and Chee! Love Sabbath and your reactions! Ozzy is spot on in this record.
good song..good reaction...thank you...this song really hits home with me...its an amazing song...

This song is from the perspective of God. It's a message to all of us.
"He who has ears to hear, let him hear."
Geezer Butler's attempt to send his mind back to within the womb and express what (if one were able to express such at such a time-which one ISN'T!) the thoughts and feelings surrounding that/involved in that experience, might be.

That groovy gutter! Love it.
This was one of my guitar teachers favourite songs when I was younger 🎸
That is one of the best songs ever written. Any lyrics are just reality put in such an awesome way.
For me one the baddest and raw best rock song since I was a kid.
Oh hell yeah!
You guys going to love “Killing yourself to live”
this is one of their great ones!
You guys are the best .. I wish you were up here with the gang in Canada when we got every Sabbath vinyl.... you would be pushing 70 now, but it was such a great musical era .. this whole album is another masterpiece.. thanks guy
DOPE period!
Great reaction gentleman. My favorite from Sabbath. Just a phenomenal song. Thank you keep up the amazing work La/Che

Speechless, I know
One of my top 5 bands. This right here is why. No one sounded like this 🔥 riff masters
Another killer track
Hitting on all cylinders today, you guys are killing it! Love the Blue Jays cap Che.

BANGER! 💥💥💥💥
Boom 💥. Period
some would argue that this is the Sabs best song. And I think it's a good argument!
Brilliant song, great album. Geezer was on fire lyrically on this album. But maybe he always was. Looking forward to the rest
Yeahhhhhh!!! ❤🙂

I thought the same.
*checks UA-cam twice a day for another sabbath reaction*
Me too!
This is a 3 piece band, with a vocalist. Ain't no freakin rhythm section....just a KICK ASS guitarist!
Perfectly put. Geezer is insane, but often it's Tony and Bill playing off each other. Not even a keyboard to smooth things over.
@@danmayberry1185Get ready.. Keyboard is about to kick in on Sabba Cadabra!

Greetings from echo park los angeles. Check out acdc with singer bonn scott
These guys are rippers.
Ozzy called Tonni "The Riff Master"
He still does, after having worked with so many, and he means it, it's not to sell.
Metaphysically athletically acro.
Zepp / stones / sabbath
Deep purple as well
The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix & Pink Floyd.
It looked like you Guys were almost in a trance.
And it's about to be 3 for 3. The next one is, per my taste, their best ever. Side 2 is also great, but very different.
It just occurred to me that the guitar tone in the intro riff of this song is a bit like Brian May's guitar tone at the time. Just listen to the Queen 1 & 2 albums which were released around about the same time. Nonetheless, I appreciate this song very much.
Right off the rip, both of your heads bobbing!!! That riff is the fuckin shit man!!! Hahaaaaa! Lol!!!!

Double-tracked vocals give a solo Ozzy vibe. Taste of things to come?
How do they came up with riffs like that?
Wadda you think?😂😉🌿
Skip ‘Fluff’ guys and go straight to ‘Sabbra Cadabra’ lol
Are you ever going to react to Styx they are a great band. Many many hits try Crystal Ball.
I did make a request, Sweet Madame Blue...

Please do "Ozzy's Blizzard of Oz
Elton John - Have Mercy on the Criminal
probably not a good thing to do . but as a kid i would blast this album out the window on a sunday morning. i stayed opposite a church
Next stop, Fluff. A nice tune, but the one after that....Sabbra Cadabra is another Epic Sabbath tune.
Che was looking a little tipsy on this one, one too many Che? 👀
Edward Earl Hazel ish 2:44
You can see Che lost in the sauce on this one too. It's that riff.
I don't think it's fair that the back cover of the album never gets shown. It kinda changes the meaning.
The riff sounds almost ... Medieval.
Easily one of their best songs.
