I just bought a resale hermes 90 carre from my favourite & most trusted consignment store. Found your channel with your phenomenal scarf tying and scarf ring tutorials, and then this video. I weighed my new baby......42 grams! it's going back! So grateful for your expertise and attention to detail.

Sorry to hear about that, Rosie - it's an unfortunate hazard of shopping pre-owned, but glad you discovered it. Welcome to the channel!

Great information, I also have about 20% of my collection from the secondary market. I’ve never purchased from eBay, mostly from Hermes sellers, Vestiaire, and The Real Real. I will be picking up a scale 😊

Indeed, they are pretty handy and not just for scarves 😂

Another interesting video Maya. I wonder why the sellers don't just put the weight in their listing if it is that important.

    • @cranleyplace
      @cranleyplace  2 роки тому +2

Thanks, Jill! Some do, but everyone has different ideas about what’s important. And especially if the scarf isn’t what it seems to be, weight is the last thing they’d want to disclose. I’ve handled some fakes and they’re vastly different than the real thing.

I would love to learn more about the secondary market. I've collected (and carefully worn) Hermes since the 1990s but never considered the secondary market before...... your review of e bay was excellent

Thanks for your comments, Gaby! The secondary market can definitely be useful, but you just have to be careful. 🧡

Do you have any advice for best places to sell pre-loves scarves? I have a few Hermes scarves that I no longer wear and would like to make room for some new ones.

If you’re comfortable, eBay is always an option. Instagram is another platform where H scarf sales happen regularly. You could also try a consigner, although they usually take a big commission or if they buy it outright, it’s at a steep discount. Good luck.

I was told Japanese sellers are more reliable, I did buy one from a site that had many Hermes and high end goods. The kicker was it was quite low priced considering it was Hermes BUT the seller didnt pull any punches. He stated it was very dated, had stains, had been washed and was not in pristine shape. Lots of pictures. Well I bought it with the idea of dying it. A fun experiment. When I got it I found it was NOT half as bad as he described it and decided to wear it as is for a while. It is authentic BTW. Someday I may dye it but for now , if folded correctly, it works nicely in my trench.

Great input, Jane! I’ve had good luck with Japanese sellers as well. Thanks for sharing your experience!

Thank you so much for giving examples. It was very helpful to see the flags. I worry about authenticity so this is an unexplored area for me. I will be purchasing a scale to have on hand just in case.

Hello & Happy New Year to you. Thank you for this info. I haven't purchased any Hermes scarves lately (always at a boutique), but now have several on my radar for Spring ! I don't recall a copyright symbol actually on the print. Is that now done? And, I don't recall a sales stamp? What is that? On one of scarves shown, (I could be wrong), it actually appears to be on the scarf. Again, thank you for all the info you have been sharing. Have recently watched several of your videos 💕

Happy New Year! Yes, modern H scarves now sport the (c) symbol. And the sale stamp is used on scarves sold at a discount, often to H employees or at one of their rare sales. It’s usually stamped discretely under the care label. Thanks for your comments!

Hi Maya! Would you happen to know when sample sales will occur in major cities like NYC & LA ?

Hi Vida, unfortunately no, but I can say that “regulars” are usually notified by their SAs. Good luck!

Hello Maya and others! I found a green Chorus Stellarum scarf at Vestiaire. Now I´m wondering what a 70 x 70 scarf is supposed to weigh? Mine weighs only 37 grams. Can that be right? Maya, you could still be in Europe, but if anyone of the subscribers has a scarf of that size, could you, please weigh it. Thank you in advance! Have a nice rest of the week! 🤔

Ooh, lucky find, Suvi! That weight sounds about right for a 70cm. 💚

@@cranleyplace Hello Maya! My lucky find turned out to be a fake. Vestiaire took it back and promised a reimbursement. In full. If you ever need the details for a future video, just let me know! Partly the scarf had what one anticipates of a Hermès scarf: craftsmanship. 🤩Have a nice week!

Thank you for your video. While the content is interesting, analyzing the seller's pricing and prior selling history/feedback could be somewhat misleading. There are plenty of ligitimate sellers out there who came into posession of scarves due to inheritance, estates, etc. and they at times don't know the value of the items they are selling or don't care to know, but are trying to dispose of them. Further, checking the weight of the scarves isn't helpful in many circumstances, as the latest-generation fakes are very, very good and have weights consistent with original Hermes scarves and the stitching of identical quality. For example, the Premier Chant scarf shown on the video as an example is actually a recent fake - one could spot it if looking very closely on the caretag (the lettering on the care tag is a give away - one need to ask for more pictures to confirm), while the Robe de Sour 140 cm is a legitimate original - most likely priced that low as purchased on sale for half price. By the way, the laminated tags are also faked - and the presence of those could not give any reassurance of buying an authentic item. What one need to do in order to shop second hand is to get familiarized what to look for in the original/genuine scarf (print quality, caretag presence/ consistency of the format with date of issuance, quality of stitching, if the colorway/format was ever issued by Hermes) and compare print details once the scarf is in your hands. Research, research, and research. Thankfully, eBay provides a generious return policy. Best of luck to everyone.
