- To me, it's hard to find a better plant for a hot and sunny spot in your garden. Lavender is easy to grow, flowers for months, and is SUPER simple to prune. You have to get in there and give it a good wacking at least once per year. What is the best way to prune lavender? When should you prune lavender? In California, I hard prune in late May. Lavender is one of the first plants to flower, so by the time, May rolls around about 60-70% of the flowers are spent. Meaning they are no longer purple. So, this is the time of year when you cut this plant back by 2/3.
In this video I share with you:
1) The one pruning rule you must follow or else you will kill this plant.
2) When to prune Lavender.
3) Why do we have to hard prune?
4) The difference between French Lavender, Spanish Lavender and English Lavender.
5) 3 fun things to do with the clippings rather than throwing them out.

Thank you! This was very helpful. I'm behind on the pruning (big time), but I will do my best to revisit your channel. Cheers!

Thank you for this!! Wasn't sure if to prune my lavender. Now I'm sure! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Glad I was able to help you! Enjoy the rest of your summer!
Will cutting some of the wood base kill the whole plant? I have a bush that's flopped over and the wood part is is on the concrete
It won’t guarantee killing the plant but you run the risk. Once the completely flip over I’d cut it hard and hope that it perks up next season. Taking a bunch of weight off the branches may help it’s stand up again. If not you have end up replacing the plant 🫤
