How to "load" or put together a heavy bag and what style you recommend.
In one video you said you like it to be heavy, but soft to protect you hands.
Going to buy the 50 Video package on Thanksgiving too.

Long and short of it all- I have a great boxing gym in my garage that i out togetherand you’re my new coach. I watch a video, do my pushes ups, jump rope, etc., shadow boxing rounds, and the try out what you teach me on the heavy bag for my gloved rounds.

I tell my students that when they throw the uppercut, the elbow comes from the place the bellybutton occupied prior to turning the hip so that the punch comes right from the centerline straight up the body. I notice people often have the tendency to throw the uppercut from the side instead of straight up the middle, then they sometimes over compensate by not throwing it perpendicular, but as a hook. I hope I described this well enough.
What is your thought on this, Champ?

I teach the centerline to my students as well. Every day I see people practicing hitting the elbows instead of separating centerline and flanks. For the uppercut to the solar plexus, I make them observe the shirt of the opponent and target the logo or a certain letter. Definitely using the long uppercut when stepping back as the opponent is keen to pounce.

True an opponent can evade and counter a right uppercut but that applies to all punches.
If u look at Iron Mike Tyson’s knockout loss to James Buster Douglas, Tyson knocked down Douglas with a lead right uppercut then later in the bout
Douglas started the combination that would take down Tyson with a lead right uppercut of his own

Informative video. Please do a video on uppercut defense, or is the best way what you talked about towards the end of the video - closing your guard ? I've seen some coaches advocate catching the uppercut with either the same hand or opposite hand, but honestly it seems difficult to react that quickly at close range.

When I'm in close I like to skim (lightly tap) the ribs around the side as I come up through the middle. I do it with my left (leading hand) and it works so well for opening the guard. It has worked well on intermediate and pro fighters and its easy to practice on a bag.

Always love your videos man, very clear and amazingly helpful
    I have a request
I’m 37 and a couple years ago I was 256 in a bad way so I finally said fuck this
Now I walk around at 185-190 and and I’m in the best shape I’ve ever been in.
But now my shoulder is giving me major issues
One of the main sources of exercise for me is hitting my heavy bag, I do probably ten 3min rounds at least 5 days a week
For the last few months my left shoulder had been feeling all jacked and I really notice it when I throw the left hook. I’m pretty confident in my form but I’m not a boxer by any means, so for all I know I’m throwing it all wrong. If there was a way for you to get a video out showing very clearly like you do, exactly how each part of your body should move when your throwing your jab, or hook or whatever, I’m sure I’m not the only one who would benefit from that!
I’ve experimented with my 1-2 as well, it feels natural to me to sort of throw each punch in 2 motions, like I quickly flick my shoulder out followed by the rest of the punch. But now, when I do that it jars my shoulder. So I keep everything really stiff and move my hips and shoulder and throw the punch as one single unit (hard to explain). And it feels more powerful and doesn’t hurt my shoulder as much, but it tends to feel a little slower
If you can give me clarity so i at least know if I’m doing it wrong or if I’m just feeling my age haha that’d be amazing!

Tony, I notice that all of your uppercuts are landing low, as you explained, 'aimed at a shorter boxer or one who is bobbing & weaving'. But what about the textbook uppercut, the only true uppercut really, that is to the chin and requires the forearm to be at 90 degrees more or less. Mike Tyson's uppercuts as an example. The colloquial version being an uppercut to the mid-section. But as the late Kenny Weldon explained, anything else, is really a body hook due to the shape of the arm.
