  • I unintentionally cut the video due to the fact that I pressed Stop rather than the Take Photo button, but here's the arrival of the first of BART's Fleet of the Future. This section depicts Richmond to (almost) North Berkeley, and I will upload the next sections afterwards (up to 12th Street Oakland for the time being). Next time, I will add the 12th Street south to Fremont segment.

Supposedly Bart's been having problems with the system reading the cars that's probably why it was reading as a 4 car instead of an 8 car

Announcements at station wrong, announcements on cars not working. Looks like Bart equipment isn’t liking the new cars yet.

RedLight GreenArrow Well, BART is still tweaking the announcements along the way... the automated announcements found along the section between North Berkeley and Fremont are functioning properly.

Whats with the seat colors? what is this 1970?

Kevin Howard You mean the light blue and neon green? Well, consider this: BART used to have softer fabric seats that, while comfortable, can easily get soiled (especially with the homeless). And when those smell, it can linger throughout the car that I sometimes feel obnoxious sitting in it. With the new seat pads (and ergonomic designs), not only those are way simpler to clean, but those are also hygienic as well. Come to think of it as an evolution on how we travel around: sure, many bus seats nowadays may be terrible (e.g. AC Transit's hard seats on the Gillig LF 40'), but keeping costs down is key, so transit agencies have to make difficult yet sensible choices to make sure their vehicles and seats remain durable while easily maintained.

I personally like the colors. It beats the old dull interiors. Also, the colors are used to easily indicate the seats that are designated for people who are pregnant or people with disabilities. The seats are required by federal law and must be given up if someone in one of those categories needs to use them.

I hate those new station signs. I hate the new font.

Randoman35 Those signs are being standardized as part of the MTC's wayfinding standardization scheme. If you have concerns about them, contact the Metropolitan Transportation Commission directly.

Kevin Howard well, if you go outside the station platforms, you see a larger-than-life entrance area, but if you walk a bit further down through the tunnel, it looks dim (if not outright gloomy). Amtrak also shares the station in Richmond as well, with a totally different typeface. Perhaps, if we emulate the roundrels found with Transport for London, but with a twist to represent bridges (using diamonds or something), we can then finally create unique identities that we can live with.
