CAPTION: Denver artist Kagen Schaefer creates one-of-a-kind musical desk made entirely out of wood. (date)
    ----------------------------------------
    [Location: Denver, Colo. _ July 8, 2011]
    [SOT/Kagen Schaefer, artist]
[VO: Shots of puzzle boxes and a puzzle table made by Schaefer]
("My name is Kagen Schaefer. I specialize in making puzzle mechanisms out of wood, specifically secret opening boxes and tables or pieces of furniture that have drawers. So everything I make is some form of a container with, oh, a pretty intricate puzzle that keeps it locked. So when you solve these different wooden puzzles that I designed you can unlock secret drawers or boxes.")
[VO: Schaefer playing notes on his musical desk]
    [SOT/Kagen Schaefer, artist]
("The air goes from here to the drawer. From here to here. There are tunnels of, there''s air tunnels that go through here as well.)
[VO: Schaefer pointing to holes and demonstrating how drawers displace air to make a note]
    [SOT/Kagen Schaefer, artist]
("There are parts of a score of music hidden about the desk and should you find those pieces and assemble the score of music then you can actually play the correct tune to, it will unlock something secret.")
[VO: Back side of desk showing pipes made out of wood.]
[VO: Tight shot and shot of logic board that converts air displaced by the drawers into a working mechanism that unlocks a secret panel hidden in the desk.]
    [SOT/Kagen Schaefer, artist]
(''''Something like this switch here, it won''t move until you move this switch over here. And then this switch can move here. And so on and so forth.... And that''s all air that''s just registering, powering everything in there.")
[VO: Installation of logic board into the desk, the top, and Schaefer playing drawers, with nat sound.]
    [SOT/Kagen Schaefer, artist]
("When I was really young, when I was a kid before I could really build things out of wood, I used to draw mazes, specifically for my dad. And the goal was to draw him a maze he couldn''t solve. I wanted to stump him... My dad long since gave up trying to solve any of these puzzles. At one point I drew him a maze that was too big and he just gave up. He said, I win, or something like that. The goal is to no longer stump my dad but to stump people who love puzzles as well.")
