Frieren was the anime that made me hit "Next" until no more episodes follow. The one that broke my post-AOT drought. Also the over-arching adventure is to reach Ende, or "heaven" as explained in episode 4.
It’s no exaggeration to say that I’ve been obsessed with this anime, for months after it came out I couldn’t think of anything else. The amount of little details they have every episode is insane, both in terms of character development or world building. Fun fact, the fight between stark and the dragon was precisely 30 seconds. Glad you’re enjoying it! It some how keeps getting better
This anime is literally life changing. Many reviewers including the famous OG anituber Gigguk said that this anime really made him change his life schedule and learn to appreciate his time with his parents.
This anime is so goddamn good and beautiful. ❤ season 1 is one of the most technically flawless anime i have experienced, the writing, the VA, the animation, the OST everything works so well together. It's a masterclass on how flashbacks are used correctly in a story
I read the first manga volume just a few months ago and have since binged every volume and chapter, and I'm on my second viewing of the anime. Both are honestly perfect in my view - bittersweet and beautiful.
The 4 first episodes were initially released at the same time! Sort of a special 1 hour prelude to the story since we only got a clear objective for the journey at the end of ep4. That's why they feel like they blend together because they're supposed to be treated as one single watch.
I've already watched Frieren 3x! Love it so much!! (I'll recommend something now but I'll do it again at the last video: "Bocchi the Rock" the same director, also AMAZING and SO funny omg!!)
Some of the instruments used that might a bit less common are harpsichord (Handomse Pose Collection), hammered dulcimer (beginning of Deep in Dungeon), and uilleann pipes (Deep in Dungeon, Beyond the Journey's End). I really think the score is an absolute masterpiece and Evan Call spoke a lot about the production of it; it's quite unique among anime score productions. As a horn player I also love and appreciate the use of french horn, especially in pieces like Gone, but Not Forgotten! edit: I think they also use an accordion, lute, mandolin, and tin whistle in a few pieces
25:19 that cut was done by Yutaka Nakamura, probably the greatest animator of all time, no wonder you honed in on it. Frieren has an all star cast of talented animators.
You picked a good stopping point. Episodes 7 to 10 (and a little bit of 11) is a meaty arc that has a little bit of everything. Looking forward to more of your thoughts on the series.
I loved this story during my first watch through, but it’s become more poignant and dear to me as I’ve thought about it and watched it over with loved ones. I catch some new little detail every time. The story is so tight and the characters have so much nuance to them. It’s become my favorite anime now, and I’ve read the manga up through Vol. 11. I hope you really enjoy the rest of the season, and I can’t wait to hear what you think of the next few episodes!
Evan Call - if you watched Violet Evergarden, he's the one of made the music for that anime too. And that anime and this has practically similar story - The Journey Ended. And IMO the reason why the episodes feel slow even though its packed in 20minutes is because of the music being melancholic and slow/chill. Music does warps our perception of time.
Love the freiren discussion, subbed to stay in tune with the remaing discussion. However, why the hell did the algorithm never show your channel whenever I search for apothecary diaries reaction. I'll be over there for the mean time
SPOILER SPOILER WARNING ⚠️ So there's reason to believe that one of the garbage items Freiren bought was intended as a birthday gift for Fern. Frieren's master taught her it was a good gift idea, and I'm pretty sure Frieren doesn't understand why.
Then you wont like season 2 when it hits. While there will be a bunch of those episodic stories again, the focus will be the "Golden City" story arc which is quiet a bit longer then the mage exam one and should take up like 2/3rd of season 2. Even after that the manga stays with the more connected story arcs. I think you can only do so many standalone "emotional nostalgia vignette" episodic stories before you start to repeat yourself. On the plus side the golden city arc is the best part in the manga and has some really great storytelling so i am looking forward to it.

9:07 the “don’t pay my head” is a set up for the fact that headpats become Frieren’s favourite way to praise people ;)
I am afraid of how you stacked same-lenght books perfectly in your bookshelf

This show took me by storm from episode 1 on and easily took the top spot of my favorite Anime of all time 🥰

It would be great to see your show reactions! Have you considered creating a dedicated channel for them?
I was wondering what was coming after attack on Titan.. Good choice!
Oh. My. You just made me realize something that would be a spoiler so I can't say it, but I haven't seen anyone suggest this before.

I enjoyed the episodic part way more, when it get to more longer arcs my enjoyment dropped. You need to try Dungeon Meshi next.
