moreover, Status Quo changed some lines and reversed the meaning of the song in 2010! From "against war and the military" to 2in favour of military service"
Very interesting to see which songs went to no.1 in Norway during the 1980s! Mostly the big hits that did well all over Europe but not always. Norway was one of the very few countries where the original version of 'In the Army Now' by Bolland & Bolland was more successful than the remake by Status Quo. Also Gary Moore's 'Over the Hills and Far Away' was at the top for 7 weeks whereas it only peaked at no. 20 in the UK. Thanks for the video!
Excellent choice of country here Francis 👍 Always interesting to see what our neighbours in Europe had at the summit in the 80s. Quite Eurovision dominated with 1980 with both the Norwegian and Irish entries in first. You can see the similarities between Norwegian and Swedish with their language. Interesting taste here. One of my favourite Bond Themes with 'For Your Eyes Only' by Sheena Easton. Beautiful in every way. I think people who got married when 'I Just Called To Say I Love You' got to the summit most likely got divorced (happened to my parents). Bobbysocks, Norway's first Eurovision winner in 1985. Good they appreciated A-ha. Any country that Jive Bunny didn't infect the charts with lol 😂 Many great songs here but my all time favourite song which I'm glad made the summit here for four weeks is 'The Power of Love' by Jennifer Rush. Such a beautiful and touching song. I also love the disturbing yet powerful 'Jeanny' by Falco. Grade A video as always 👍
"La det Swinge" was the first Eurovision Win for Norway and the country was the country which finished ESC last mostly till this year and only one Week at Number Position???? This is a shock for me!
I’m glad to see that someone is representing the hits we had in Norway in the 80s. I hope you are also able to show us the 90s, and more! We follow you no matter what!❤
I'm suprised for two reasons: 1. TAKE ON ME in 1st place for ONLY 2 weeks. Why no more? 2. Few years of break beetween 2 norwegian-language songs on top.
Good/really good charts from Norway, when will you do each entry from there from 1980-1989! A-ha had/have so many hit singles/albums worldwide, but esp in their native Norway 😎
Excelente trabajo Francis como todo lo que haces, soy fiel admirador de tu trabajo. Estaría genial un vídeo de alguna década del latín billboard. Te mando un fuerte abrazo desde Cholula Puebla México
Yeah, I was wondering why the video was so short. A number one in the UK was lucky to top the charts for a couple of weeks. In Norway it seems five or six weeks were the norm. I enjoyed the video thanks
The title song of the 80s German music show "Bananas" was in Norwegian language? 😊And in the army now was already a hit in 1982, now I've seen it all.. 😂
Madonna was obviously big, but I think her biggest market was America. Almost every single that she released during the 1980's and the 1990's became a top 10 hit here.
@@victorhunter8900 yes I think you are right Victor, the USA and the UK was Madonna’s most successful markets. In the UK Madonna still holds many records for her chart success, including most consecutive top ten hits and of course most successful female artist which I doubt will ever be beaten
@@Redsleather On the other hand, Madonna had a big backlash in the mid 2000's here (because of the American Life album), so she was never able to top the charts in the States again (the last time she did it was in 2000).
Not so keen on this one, our Francis, quite a lot of boring stuff like 'Funkytown' and 'Total Eclipse Of The Heart'. Love 'The Heat Is On', 'Against All Odds', 'Another Day In Paradise', 'Break My Stride', 'A Different Corner' and 'Dancing On The Ceiling' though.
Can we all agree that 19 is the worst hit of the 80s? Paul hardcastle had lots of other much better songs….. I Also find The Power of love, china in your hand and Eternal flame too soppy
I had thought In The Army Now was done by Status Quo originally. I didn’t realise they covered that song.

@@atheistfromaustria it’s originally performed by Bolland & Bolland in 1982

I just got back from holiday in Norway. I would have expected many more Norwegians to make it to number 1 throughout the decade.
Thanks Francis. It's a good job that you keep on compiling these collections....
A-ha are people's artists of Norway
Wow, "They Don't Know" by Tracey Ullman was a big hit in Norway.
I have to admit Norwegian number 1 hits in the 80s were much better than the ones that reached number 1 in the U.K. during that time.
Hope your next video will be Danish number one songs of the 1980s :)?
A lot of beautiful songs

Some terrific songs here & interesting to see what other countries liked in their choices of music 🎶

2 weeks number one indeed. It's not so much, but it charted 30 weeks on the top 10.

Good video!!!
Good classics to remember!!!
(I just) died in your arms is one of my favorite songs from the 80's!!!
Really enjoyed this. When Norway liked a song they REALLY liked it. Several very long runs at #1

Could you do number one 90s songs in Norway please?
modern talking ,were stars
🎉🎊🎉🎊🥰
Même A-ah avec Take on me n'est resté que 2 semaines n°1 chez eux en Norvège 🇸🇯.
Madonna didn’t have many #1s in Norway, surprisingly

Wow Gyllene Tider! And Gary Moore had a long spell!
Are there any sources of Norwegian chart from the 80’s with positions below 10 or was it only Top10 then?
4:06 Paul McCartney looks good here
7:15 that band is actually called Hear'n Aid, a pun on 'hearing aids', since it was made up of members of hard rock and heavy metal bands.
I love that song more than "We Are the World". Lol
Robin Beck is what Mariah Carey would have sounded like in the 1980's.
So "Bette Davis Eyes" flopped in Norway, huh? Lol
Who cares I hate that song.
@@josephrowe849 Why, though?
I was impressed because that song topped almost everywhere else.
I like it but it's not one of my 1980's jam.
@@victorhunter8900 They kept playing it all the damn time, the lyrics are just so cheesy and she sounds like she smoked a lot.
Next "Number one 80s songs in Australia"?
No Queen? 😮
Not even Radio Ga Ga?
