I have had the privilege and pleasure to hear Chanticleer in person several times, as well as by their CD recordings and UA-cam videos. They are consistent no matter how you hear them!
Woah, sit down Now, now, now, now, no Sit down Woah, please don't make me Sit down 'Cause I just got to Heaven Sit down Gonna walk around Sit down, servant, and rest a while, sit down Yon come little David Sit down With his rock and sling Sit down I don't want to meet him Sit down He's a dangerous man Sit down, servant, and rest a while, sit down Sit down, servant I can't sit down Sit down No, I can't sit down Sit down, servant I can't sit down, I just got to Heaven and I can't sit down Says you can watch the sun, see how steady she runs Don't let it catch you with your work undone Joshua, Joshua, the son of a nun Good God Almighty won't ya stop the sun? God spoke to Joshua to do thy will He said if you fight the battle, the sun'll stand still He give me a lantern and he told me go He give me a harp and he told me to blow If I blew my lungs away That I would get them back in a coming day When I get to Heaven, gonna put on my shoes I'll walk around in Heaven and tell my news Look up, David, to heal the day Tune up my harp and begin to play Sit down, servant I can't sit down Sit down, servant No, I can't sit down You oughta sit down, servant I can't sit down, I just got to heaven and I can't sit down Oh, sit down, servant I can't sit down Sit down, servant No, I can't sit down Why don't you sit down, servant? I can't sit down, I just got to heaven and I can't sit down
This is wonderful, thank you Marques Jerrell Ruff! It was a joy to hear Chanticleer live in Wuppertal, Germany around 1995. Steve Barnett was along. Teldec invited me to come down (as a marketing copy author. The performance was riveting, the high standard of stirring a cappella vocal performance wonderfully demonstrated. Chad Runyon shared a very entertaining story about Maxim Vengerov's priceless violin. More power to you. Keep it up.
Always great to see and hear them. This is an older recording. Many members left and new ones came in. The lead singer still is with them. They are amazing and nothing changes, even with the nest singer. Happy to see them soon again in Ottawa.
I'm almost speechless The men sang with feeling and with perfect 4-part harmony. Plus, the lead vocalist has a WIDE range and sang with from the soul. Good Lord I'm ready to have church ⛪ 😂🤣😂 Note: There's a black guy that did a double clap. You know he raised in church
So much soulfulness in this rendition. Interesting to see how the countertenors in the group bend away from the English school and more toward the American sopranist model. Does it take away from the all male quality of the group and make this sound more like a mixed choir? Undoubtedly, this is singing of the highest caliber, but I wonder how fans of all male a capella feel about this vs. groups that maintain the more masculine color of groups that came before (like the Soul Stirrers or the Blind Boys from Alabama or even the King's Singers.
Don't do that. Few people have what it takes to be a truly outstanding singer, but that doesn't mean we can't make a vital contribution to a choir that needs voices.
Such beauty is rare on this blessed earth. Thank you.

My favorite Chanticleer song of all time. Marques is insanely talented! I could listen to his voice every day and never tire of it. Simply amazing!
Wow! Thank you so much!
Dayum brother! Sing the run brother!
Thank you!
This is my favorite performance! All of their voices are amazing but the lead singer blew me away!
Those high notes reminded me a lot of the super high notes on Get Away, Jordan by Take 6.
I almpst caught the entire spirit. I heard that countertenor's notes and yelled jesus.
Preach it, brothers! Lovely voices and gospel music! And Marques, your voice is a gift from the Lord above!
One word for this AMAZING👍 the lead singer tho! Stunning I could go on and one. 🙏
Man, I probably watch this video 5 occasions every year since you've posted it. Just absolutely stunning.
Man, what a rich rendition!
Joy seeing them live. So glad I can hear such wonderful music.
how wonderful is this?!!
Woah, sit down
Now, now, now, now, no
Sit down
Woah, please don't make me
Sit down
'Cause I just got to Heaven
Sit down
Gonna walk around
Sit down, servant, and rest a while, sit down
Yon come little David
Sit down
With his rock and sling
Sit down
I don't want to meet him
Sit down
He's a dangerous man
Sit down, servant, and rest a while, sit down
Sit down, servant
I can't sit down
Sit down
No, I can't sit down
Sit down, servant
I can't sit down, I just got to Heaven and I can't sit down
Says you can watch the sun, see how steady she runs
Don't let it catch you with your work undone
Joshua, Joshua, the son of a nun
Good God Almighty won't ya stop the sun?
God spoke to Joshua to do thy will
He said if you fight the battle, the sun'll stand still
He give me a lantern and he told me go
He give me a harp and he told me to blow
If I blew my lungs away
That I would get them back in a coming day
When I get to Heaven, gonna put on my shoes
I'll walk around in Heaven and tell my news
Look up, David, to heal the day
Tune up my harp and begin to play
Sit down, servant
I can't sit down
Sit down, servant
No, I can't sit down
You oughta sit down, servant
I can't sit down, I just got to heaven and I can't sit down
Oh, sit down, servant
I can't sit down
Sit down, servant
No, I can't sit down
Why don't you sit down, servant?
I can't sit down, I just got to heaven and I can't sit down

My, My splendid.
I have watched this video approximately 20 times in 2 days
Thank you!
Rookie numbers make that 50 in one day
It’s much more difficult to become a member of Chanticleer than the Secret Service
That's what I was saying!
That wouldn't surprise me at all.
Love this performance.
Bravo Marques!!! I am going to miss seeing you :)
My favorite
Tremendous voices!
Next level soloist right there, love it!
Just wonderful, Marques. Greetings from Germany!
Wow!
OMG! love this song and love your voice!

Gospel sopranos have vibrato - they are going for the full style.
Incredible!
Engagement pur ..... !
sounded like "sit down sir balls" at the start ngl
Sing
I just give up with my voice!!

I am not a singer, by any standard, but I prefer to think I can make a "joyous noise" when needed!
