- Today we have another exciting seiko episode, focusing on the captain willard divers, deep diving into the shape of the SLa033 watch, looking also at the later releases, Sla049 or the more affordable SPB183.

I thought I would never buy such an expensive Seiko, but then I saw the SLA063 in person and unexpectedly fell in love. It is beautiful, comfortable, tough and yet low-key luxurious, plus super accurate; and it is now probably my second favorite watch in a large collection. I liked it so much I bought the murdered out SLA061 too, which is cool as hell, though it feels more like Colonel Kurtz should be wearing it rather than Martin Sheen.... :)
063 is super nice Congrats! I was close to grab one as well. Haha true, more suitable for Marlon.
I also struggled with the notion of buying an Uemura.. but settled on a spb237 special Willard. Although not as plush as the Uemura, it still had a similar impact on me, where it instantly became my daily wearer and now I don’t have any desire to buy another watch, since I won’t want to wear it anyway. Quite the feeling when you find that special one! However, I still hope that sometime in the future (a year or so), that I will have the nerve to acquire the last watch that I will ever buy🤥, a blue Pelagos! And do you really need a large collection? I struggle to justify having a rotation of 8, especially now that the Willard takes up 70% of my wrist time on an average week!🤔
@@jtpalooki7757 nice! Definitely don’t need a large collection. I plan to pair it down a bit when the watch market recovers. (But after the first few it gets more difficult as I have been quite attached to almost all of them at one point or another.)

Good to find someone else on YT who owns a SLA063. I bought mine 1 year ago and mine is #018/500, and the sales guy at the store didn’t know it was a 500pcs LE. I love how the gradated dial and bezel color changes in the light, and the accuracy of its 8L35 high beat movement is comparable to my Omega Seamaster. The still photos of this watch does not do justice to its presence hands on😎
The SLA033 is an iconic watch, and there are so many homages done to try to capture the essence of this watch, which shows how good that design was. Thanks for the great video, I would definitely keep that SLA 033 :D

Dipped my toes into this design with the captain Willard SPB model… But its had me dying some of the SLA models because I’ve fallen in love with the case, shape, and history… Trying to decide between the 051 and the 033…
051 is nice as well, wears super cool. Accuracy wise, still 033 is the right one.
The Captain Willard is Seiko's most iconic tool diver. The 62MAS is Seiko's most iconic GADA diver. And the SKX is Seiko's most iconic affordable diver.

I have a sla 049. Wore it today. Very nice watch. Have another willard that came on the woven straps. It is on a bor vintage style bracelet. They just fit so well! Better than turtles for me.
Great video. However, I don’t think these were technically issued to the military. They were just popular among soldiers at the time. I love my sla033.

@@BraveBeaters They sold them there on base, but that doens't mean they were issued. Issued means that the military gave them to soldiers as part of their standard kit. Most issued watches are property of the country that issued them and are stamped accordingly.
I’ve been wanting a Willard for some time now and I think I’d go with the spb just because of the bracelet
Although I’m not particularly a fan of seiko, this watch is one I’d definitely consider. It looks equally good on bracelet and a strap.

The 6105 wasn’t an issued watch. It just was a super inexpensive watch that was sold at All the PX store’s on bases in Vietnam. They weren’t issued. They were popular with the soldiers cause the watch could handle all the rain in the jungle of Vietnam.
It's the only watch I can recognise by silhouette.

Waiting for a new to me SLA051 - I prefer the 44mm width and know the 8L is robust movement.
God, I love the silhouette on this watch. Looking forward to owning a (King?)Turtle someday to scratch that itch.

I've never been a Seiko fan and dont even offer them a cursory glance when out shopping, or in an airport....your video was great as usual Adrian..but I can't for the life of me see the attraction in owning one.

I appreciate what the Willard models represent but I had a SPB237 and I didn’t like it. The lugs sat too low for straps and the watch seemed too small for my wrist. I loved the dial but eventually traded it for an SPB143 because of the larger size.

The CW is a great design and a beautiful watch but WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY overpriced like most interesting Seiko's. Hope you are doing well Andrei!

@@BraveBeaters I bet, I found your videos when I looking for reviews before I purchased my doxa sub 200 and enjoyed seeing the drawings you did. I did furniture design at college in the 90s but the free hand drawing wasn't my thing so I do enjoy looking at that type of art.

Unpopular opinion I’m sure, and I love Seiko dive watches, but these divers historically were never meant to be premium luxury pieces. They were rugged tool watches. It’s pure marketing to raise these up to be greater then they were ever intended. They literally sold the originals at Sears and Montgomery Wards

Don't have to pay retail for most watches. Bought my SLA 043 from a jeweler at a small discount. Got a sla055 as a jdm model. Very reasonable for the quality it is. Much nicer than swiss.
