    do you ever try and pollinate your figs? I watch this and can't help but to think that would be great ty and cross it with a desert king, or another bigger fig with better tastes and see what types of flavors you could get from the seedlings...?

      My hardiness zone is 5B . A few years ago I planted a Hardy Chicago fig tree outside in my garden with the roots at. a 45 degree angle. In April I take away the bags of ceder mulch which protects the tree from the cold winters that we have. I use a rope to keep the tree upright. In the end of October I take away the rope and the tree drops down to the ground. I cover it with mulch again. It's over 10 feet high now with a lot of figs which never get a chance to ripen.

    I have a fig tree producing breba figs (10} this year which look the same as yours, weight 250 gram, also leaves same as yours; however I left the brebas untill they were so soft it was hard not to squash them on plucking off the stem. They were purple inside and out but just about tasteless! Live in South East of UK, max summer temp 20C or 65F, there rests green partly grown main crop of many more figs as it is nowstart of August one will have to "wait and see!"

    Definetly not ready to pick!
    My dads old farm in Southern Italy has a few Fiorone fig trees, and you dont pick them untill you start to see little cracks in the skin. They get really sweet when ripe, and alot more juicy. But it could be because you have them in pots...

    • @BenBSeattle
      @BenBSeattle  6 років тому +1

      These do not crack here. Might be due to climate differences and no fig wasp. I let the 2nd one basically wilt on the tree and it did not crack.
