As a huge Greta Van Fleet fan, this was really interesting to me. I love hearing the passion and Daniel nerding out about his kit. His drum solos are one the best parts of Greta’s live shows and I can’t wait to see them on tour again this summer. Thank you Modern Drummer!
I absolutely appreciate the fact that Danny took the time to introduce and give credit to his tech. There are so many people working together every night to make a show happen, and it's nice to see Danny recognizes that teamwork.
This is probably the longest I’ve heard him speak, so I’m very glad for this video! I understand nothing about drums but he’s very intriguing to listen to, you can tell how enthusiastic and passionate he is about what he plays. Danny is a wonderful musician and such a humble beautiful person ❤
Story time- Danny was a top notch high school golfer(his dad was his HS coach) he qualified for the state championships all four years but did not play his senior year because GVF had festival dates in Europe. Seems like a wise choice!
It’s gratifying listening to someone talk w/so much love & joy for what they do & the tools they do it with. If you love what you’re doing it’s never work.
I just love that’s he’s being honest about his gear. “Yeah this breaks sometimes.” “This is the 112th year blah blah snare… it sounds good, buts it’s just my back up, because my Supra is just magic.” Most of these sound like a infomercial direct from whatever manufacturer they’re sponsored by. This was just unbiased honesty and it was truly refreshing!
Danny, you are awesome…I learned a lot just listening to you. Age of Machine is one of my faves so it’s cool to hear you switch out for that song. I love the bottle opener. Yes, please sing.
Danny deserves all the attention we can give him. He’s a great human being, and he works his ass off every night for the band and the crowd. And I don’t know just which part of his kit creates that thud sensation, but the first time I saw them live in Bridgeport, Connecticut, I swore it was gonna be the death of me, because I was standing right in line with his drums. I was contemplating hittin’ the deck!😂
HAHA the last clip has me dead. Thanks Danny for showing us around.. I was always curious about your set honestly. I’ll never say no to 20 minutes of Daniel 💞
My daughter & I met Danny in person in Asbury Park. He’s only a yr older than her. lol. Very, very kind & truly talented. GVF will make it into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame. Long live rock!
I respect the fact that even though he's in a huge band, he's playing orphan drums/roto toms/old Ludwig timbales because he likes the way they sound. Drum geeks unite!
I saw them at Bourbon and Beyond last year-not knowing anything about Daniel as a drummer-just knew about GVF..He was awesome!!! Great show!! Really cool to see his drum kit and have him tell about it..
The nicest, most personable, most genuine rock drummer…threw one of those sticks high up at Beale Street with the biggest smile. It hit me in the mouth, dropped to the ground and the guy in front of me got it. I appreciated the experience just the same. Love to you, Danny and best of luck on the SC tour. ✨
Thank you so much for this interview. I just can’t get enough of Danny. He is quieter than those crazy Kiska boys. So interviews often don’t show much of him.
This is really cool. I feel like people might not guess how much goes into the drums too! Danny is a talent. We’ve heard the nerd stuff about their guitars & bass so it was about time we got to hear Danny nerd out about the drum gear
Enjoyed this very much. I'm also OBSESSED with buying drum off of Reverb, I completely feel you there! The kit is awesome and so personalized which RULES. The bottle opener is a great addition. Congrats on your success and best wishes for the future.
Love the Speed King! I have never been able to dial in a pedal the way my early 80's Speed King performed - DW 5000, Pearl's , and currently Tama Iron Cobra's - all great pedals, but I miss my Speed King's!
Enjoyed listening to this! I always wondered about the in ear monitors for drummers and what that would be like. My bands never made enough money for them, so we either suffered through incredible decibels or suffered with not hearing anything with ear plugs.Would’ve loved to have had them for hearing protection, but how they’d work for drummers seemed like it’d feel very strange. I’ve noticed that snare tone, it’s beautiful. So cool to learn that it’s his baby!
Lot of people think you need an expensive kit to play live . It's just not true . Nice to know I am not the only one frankinstin their drum kits it's a lot of fun doing itv
When he started playing Built By Nations at 14:45 i was kinda hoping he'd do that fill from the very end of the song. I've been struggling to figure out that fill forever and would love to see exactly how he plays it.
Not a big Greta Van Fleet fan, but I can certainly appreciate his love for that kit and his passion for knowledge about the instrument, especially the snare. Wow, that’s a great sounding drum!
You seem like a really nice guy Danny. I love your enthusiasm for the drums. I’ve got a bunch of old Ludwig and paiste stuff. 67’ supraphonic. Keep rocking sir!🤘
That's Awesome! I am mostly amazed that you play a Speed King Drum pedal! I would tear through those like nothing is 70's & 80's. You are a true vintage enthusiast! Great stuff!
I'm a singer but know very little about drums, but this was such fun to watch Danny & absolutely fascinating. Great to see what goes on back there! Hope to see you in November. 🙂
Not really a greta van fleet fan (not NOT a fan either) not even a drummer (guitar player) but familiar with lots of rig run downs and this was S tier, covered all the bases down to monitoring. Guy is as down to earth as it gets and you can tell he loves his craft.

i’m not a drummer so idk what he’s really saying but god do i love him and how passionate he is talking about his drums and his kit. love u danny boy
He saying “ I want to be John bonham. And I copied everything he ever has done”
@@Terriblegolfer16you keep commenting on this video, you’re soooooo mad lmao

Great sounds! What a humble guy Danny Wagner is.
Ya cute 2
What a rad dude. Love that’s he’s a gear head and all over reverb like the rest of us drum junkies. Still blows my mind he rocks the speed king 🤯
Bass drum pedal, you mean?
Yes,the kick drum pedal.
The REVISED SpeedKing pedal is a lot more trouble-free.
I could never get used to those pedals..cant believe what Bonham did with them

He said he would never think of golf when he was playing music, but would always think of music when he was playing golf.
It’s gratifying listening to someone talk w/so much love & joy for what they do & the tools they do it with. If you love what you’re doing it’s never work.
I could listen to him talk all day. The kit is incredible!
I love the bottle opener. Yes, please sing.
I love him. I wanna see a Josh video of how he uses his vocals and what he does to keep them in tip top shape.
His vocal coach is Ron Browning.
He ties several rubber bands around his balls to get his sound.
Gotta love someone that likes to find a way to re use old equipment and give it new life!

Wow what a great guy,and drummer, and giving great props to his tech, rock on!
Very cool. Seems like a humble kid. Love his playing.
as a drummer, i've been waiting for a kit tour of danny's for so long, thank you!

Pretty cool sounding kit, but that 402 really does it for me. What a killer sounding snare.

Thank you for sharing love your drum playing .you guys rock. Love your kit. Paiste rule.
Love the white kit. It reminds me of Michael Derosier's white Ludwigs in the 70s when he added the North Drums toms.
Don't forget Angel's Barry Brant. White Ludwigs with North drums.
Always great to see your analysis.

Awesome! My buddy and I like buying used gear and fixing it up also. So much fun!🥁
