Happy Birthday Nathan. That was the Otter's Pocket. So - poetry now is it? This channel is going up, up, up. I want your life and I'm going to get it except for being old and knackered. I'll see you in N. Wales one day. That'll be a laugh. Take good care of Lucie (it's probably the other way around). I'll Sithi after, Dave
I was just following your lead on the poetry! Lucie loved have the old romantics quoted, it put me to shame. I'd happily meet up with you one day down there. Let me know when you're next heading that way.
@@SlippyLimpets I won't have my feet properly under the table until next year but as Douglas Adams said, there are only 500 real people in the world - that's why they keep bumping into each other. ;-) You will be most welcome. Dave
Been there and bought the T shirt Slippy. In fact I was watching the great Henry Gilbey last week and he went arse over tit on the rocks, so Lucie shouldn’t feel too bad🤣
Bet it was lovely and cosy in that tent listing to that rain on the roof,. Shame about the wind though bet you were anchoring it down from the inside. Lovely video.
Happy Birthday! What a place to be. I admire your persistence that eventually paid off. I hope Lucie has recovered. I am up on Skye - I have been using TAS line all day. It is really good. Thin, very robust. Casts and knots well and is much more tolerant of line twist than my usual braid. Off to fish for spurdogs tomorrow.

The colours of those pollack, even if small, were stunning.🐟. And the surroundings were to die for👌. Made better by the class drone footage. 👏. Those cliff caves are awesome, and highlight just how unsafe our coastal cliff edges are. Loved it. And the otter. 👏👌👍 Happy belated birthday, 🎂and hope Lucie is OK. Shame she didnt get to catch. Hopefully next time. Try to stay safe. 😷. I'd watch even if you blanked. 👍.
Although not the biggest I've landed the quality and situation they were landed in made it all worthwhile. You're right about the safety aspect. I've got some drone footage, that I'm going to stick on Instagram of a major tourist honey pot, little do the they know that they're standing on a undercut ledge 50m from the sea that looks like it could collapse at any moment. Thanks for watching and the awesome comment. Tight lines bud 👍🎣
You find some amazing places to fish but not without risk getting to them and still no life jackets! Stay safe guys. Brilliant drone footage by the way.👍
Thank you, as always, and glad you liked the footage. Just to add some context to what we do, because I know it can look a bit reckless on video. I'm a qualified rock climbing instructor and we're lucky enough to have rock climbed all over Europe (in our younger days) so the approaches seem safe enough and within our comfort zone compared to past experiences. A life jacket is a good idea but Lucie is a trained beach lifeguard and I've surfed for 20 years, so feel confident around the water. We also carry a floating VHF because phone signal is often rubbish
@@SlippyLimpets Thanks Slippy. You should make a point of mentioning that in your videos, not everyone who might want try the same will have your skills and experience. 👍
@@SlippyLimpets it was great. Especially after so much time off after my hip replacement. There's a mark at bull Bay I want to try. The waters always churned up with the current. Always fish jumping. I was fishing and a seal popped his head up not 20ft away staring at me
Yeah it is, I nearly set my knack on the same seepage. BTW, I noticed what looked like field mushrooms growing right in dry soil, on the edge of a cliff and exposed to the Atlantic, I know it's hard for to tell, but do you think they were field mushrooms or is there something poisonous that looks similar and likes that type of condition?
Word of advice for novice lure fishermen watching this. When fishing a new mark, always try and get there over low water so that you can see what’s down there to hold the Pollock. The time to fish is on the flooding tide about an hour before high water and fish it until about 2 hours on the ebb. Other times of the tide are pretty much a waste of time. You will always lose more lures than it’s worth over low tide. If you don’t get a chance to see your chosen mark over low water, test the depth by either removing the treble hooks or cover it with a hook protector. Cast out and count down until the line slackens and memorise it. Cast around in a fan shape around you and see if there are any drop offs or rises in the seabed as these will be the places that hold the fish. The pollock will be down in the kelp or just above it and you will need to get your lure right down to them on 9 out of 10 occasions. If the sea is as clear as gin, they will come up to the surface after your lure, but will stay deep if the water clarity is not quite so good. If there’s no clarity in the water, then go home as you won’t catch pollock. As mentioned you will need to get your lure right down to the kelp, so you will need to count down and stop the lure just before it hits the kelp, that way you’ll save your lures and you’ll catch fish. It’s served me very well for 50 odd years on the Llyn Peninsula where I live and fish. Worth mentioning is my worry regarding the lack of mackerel in our waters this year, apparently they’re scarce country wide! Sizeable Pollock and Cole fish are also scarce, but the sea is absolutely full of pin sized pollock like never before. Thankfully there’s been plenty of nice Bass around since April, especially as the sea has been flat calm pretty much all summer meaning lure fishing has been easy.
Sound advice and pretty much what I do. One difference though is I swap trebles for singles means you don't have to take them off and risk missing a bite while fanning casts and plumbing the depths. It's a good point about this year's mackerel numbers, I've only caught 2 for the whole season and normally I can't get through them
@@SlippyLimpets very good point re the hooks👍🏻 Worth mentioning is a sure fire way of catching pollock when all else fails is to use a 75mm - 100mm redgill or similar make and fit a half or three quarters ounce barrel lead approximately the rod length from the lure kept in place by a small swivel and bead. Cast out to where you think the pollock are and let it sink to the bottom and then wind it back in as slowly as you dare without it becoming snagged. Use a sink & draw retrieve if nothing happens after a couple of casts. If this fails to catch, then the fish are either not there or just not feeding. I often find this method will take fish every cast when all other methods have failed to produce solid takes. I only use it as a last resort as it can be a little awkward to cast out when I’m fishing from the rocks.
Belated Birthday wishes mate!,hope Lucie ok now? Was my birthday Saturday, was meant to be over west coast, but my bait order never materialised Friday, its here now tho! Pleanty of blacklug mush👍🏼😫

Cheers mate! You've got a point about the chess, I think they can snag up easily if fishing in boulders, the shape lends itself to rolling between boulders and hard to pull out. The ground I normally fish with them is pretty compact so I tend to be able to pull up and over snags OK. Saying this, I'm not sure if fishing with a cone weight would be any better given it's ability to jam the pointed tip into cracks. Sorry I haven't got a solution for you, it's just the way it is with fishing in the deck.
@@SlippyLimpets yeah cheers for your thoughts mate have been trying different stuff for a while but there's probably nowt better than seeing what's down there at low tide . . . Ta 👍
