7:49 i think why movies with an all-female cast get clowned on is because that is supposed to be the main selling point of the movie Ghostbusters Two never made the focus of the movie about how its a bunch of manly guys and how they don't need no women. i mean they even have a lobotomized male version of Janine called Kevin.
I'm sorry but if you make the focal point of your film about women being girl bosses and it falls on its face in delivery. then don't be surprised when most of the critiques come in the form of this cast of women are boring and unfunny.
Yea and I think Adam is kind of being inconsistent when in his reviews he clowns on the directors, writers, producers, and anyone else for taking this shallow, pandering, braindead approach to making a movie. I don't think you have to be a liberal or conservative to notice, you just have to be someone who likes watching the movies and having characters who exist for a reason and develop themselves for a reason that makes sense.
Because all else equal it is the main selling point. But when a movie is terrible and your knee jerk reaction is to say it's bad because women, it just makes you look like you hate women.
Why not just critique the movie for what it is rather than say "lol you say good because girls so I say bad because girls 🤤🤤"
@@WhopperCheeseDotaAren't majority of case from critique saying movie is bad because xyz reason, and the response from director or actor are always "they said its bad because they hate women"?
And it doesn't win any good will from audiences when you dismiss any legitimate criticism as bigotry.
It's also because they intentionally make it this way. They know or are told to believe in the hype of the necessary new representation and it will carry them through to a box office smash these fans will eat anything up w "insert fabled loved IP" we don't really have to worry about the creative side or story because they just want a thing and they will consume. Welp they couldn't be further from the truth. @@bigfloppa9594 lol you missed the point, things can be gay just don't make them lame. If you want an example of how to write gay characters well watch the show The 100 they did it perfectly in my opinion. I think a sexuality isn't important at all unless there is a love interest that is apart of the main story love interest in action, thriller, horror, or mystery movies usual stay in the background or are used as narrative devises to move the bigger overall plot along (In general not as a rule), for me the only times when people should care about who characters fuck are in dramas or romance movies where the relationships are literally part of the plot, but i guess no body would go watch a gay love stories and the movies wouldn't make any money so you guys have to force this shit into existing IP's so you can make some money and get your virtue points. My point is diversity for the sake of diversity in story telling is fucking boring and because I think that Im homophobic, apparently
@@bigfloppa9594not beating the slippery slope allegations
@@barrott89 I'm sorry you think minorities are a slippery slope
The problem with the all female Ghost Busters movie wasn't that it was all female, or that it would have been better if it were all male. The issue is that the motivation behind the movie was an increasingly popular trend of "let's make X but with *insert historically marginalized group*". Your motivation should be first and foremost to make a good movie, worry about making a statement with a casting decision after you have the first part covered.
Even if you sit down and you do say, "I wanna make a film with [insert marginalized group here]" you can still make a great film if you are working hard to put a good story together. Giving these new actors old recycled trash is the back-handed insult.

@@simondelasheras8465 it isn’t just the conservative pundits that makes this bullshit a problem. It’s also the “woke” that cry isms and blame everyone for their failure to create good content. I was specifically talking about their point of empty Marvel/Star Wars.

I really disagree with Adam's framing that people are reacting poorly to these all female remakes simply because they are used to seeing all male casts and they notice it more as a result. Often times, the marketing, press junket interviews, and statements by director/actors on social media references ideological or atleast pop-feminist motivations for casting and writing choicee. I.E. "Finally there will be a woman at the helm of Starwars." If someone simply dropped a really good movie with a predominantly female cast or a gay couple, I think people's reaction would be a bit different than having press events where Bri Larson say she doesn't care about the opinion of straight white men.
I also, think it's odd that Adam uses Ben Shapiro as his barometer for all "anti-woke" film citism instead of his many contemporary in the independent UA-cam sphere. Ben is primarily a conservative pundent who dips his toes into media commentary. There are plenty far more reasonably and informed film critics he could reference they're obviously just not as soft of targets.
"If someone simply dropped a really good movie with a predominantly female cast or a gay couple, I think people's reaction would be a bit different"
So you admit that "wokness" isn't actually ruining movies. People are just getting themselves lathered up before they even see the movies based on stuff they're reading on social media and then they let their triggered mental state ruin the film for them.
@@homelander7742 lol no, not at all. I think many of these movies would still be disliked regardless because they are not very good. In addition to that, a good reviewer with integrity should be able to take in additional information surrounding the production of a film and not allow it to color their review if it turns out to have little effect on the quality of the final product.
That being said, if you want your product to succeed, it's probably not wise to create an advisarial relationship with your potential customer. I.E. regardless of how good Kanye West's latest album is, he's likely alienate some of the Jewish market.
@@homelander7742 "Wokeness" was never the issue but it is a good barometer for talent. When every movie or TV show that panders or pushes one direction is done poorly, written horribly and butchers characters arcs and simple logic people will start to do one of two things correlate or obfuscate. It seems a lot of people are working really hard on the obfuscation part while most people see it as a red herring. The wokeness isn't a symptom it's a cause. When you prioritize those traits instead of entertainment it's no wonder that people dislike it. Especially when it's written by people who cannot separate themselves from modern world politics. maybe a hot take here, but having a few "woke" elements into a media isn't a bad thing, but when literally everything else takes a backseat to said "woke" elements is why the movies are bad and called woke. IMO i think that making media with a target audience in mind isn't a bad thing, the movie Bros was clearly for the LGBT audience and they have every right to have their own movie, But more often than not the people making those movies have a bone to pick and it clearly shows in the messaging and writing of the story and people are realizing that. It could be as offputing as Santa inc or completely disregards the source material while saying F Us to the fans like Halo or Velma.
Literally this. You can also tell when these elements come as an afterthought sort of "I need to appeal to LGBTQ more!". Biggest examples off the top of my head are Nico amd Dumbledore. Both felt like such afterthoughts and shoehorned in so clumsily. Now vs something like Arcane that aspect felt like a natural part of Vi and Kaitlyn's relationship. It was weaved in nicely with their character growth and had effects on narrative and decisions. It was more than just "look at my gay character."
Not a hot take, you are describing media being good or bad. A piece can be in any place in the two axes of woke-unwoke and good-bad independently. Now arguably a problem with this is that "woke" is so poorly defined, it may as well just mean "bad media that happens to also be progressive in a way I don't agree with", in which case the progressive part is very clearly not the issue.
Agree, the short version of what you said is it’s not wokeness that’s the problem, it’s the implementation of woke elements. The typical pattern is that this creative bankruptcy in movies and shows drives people to force woke elements hoping they can compensate for their poor quality movie. They think implementing woke elements in movies and especially well known IPs will make up for the lazy writing and bring in people. I personally don’t connect with overly woke stuff, but there have been movies that are actually well which, shocker, makes it not even a problem. Good examples of this are Little Mermaid and Monkey Man. How to get away with murder’s best relationship in my opinion was Connor and Oliver. It’s possible if it’s not the priority.
I’m sorry but it’s just so insanely cringe that you people end up caring so much. Just call it a shit movie and move on. The worst part here is the people who actually become hateful towards women or the lgbtq because of ‘woke media’.
A ton of people genuinely have problems with anything they consider ‘abnormal’, and for them ‘wokeness’ is a convenient catch-all term they can use to shit on anything too different, even when what they really want to say is that it’s too gay or queer or feminine or something.
@@matsab7930 I don't find it cringe at all, in fact i think the "why do you care so much" is such a cheap retort to use for anything that doesn't personally affect you or something you care about, be it media, politics, relationships or whatever.

most of the time it's always like this when it comes to "woke"
Kind of a straw man here. The argument is really that these movie studios are prioritizing DEI check boxes and sending political messages rather than creating compelling stories with character depth and development.
This is cap.
You will say this about literally any movie, video game, etc. with a minority in it.
Stop pretending. You just don't want minorities in your media. Period.
Believing that studios didn't do this in other ways NOT related to """woke""" stuff is the issue. Studios don't ONLY do this about "DEI" stuff. Literally just look back to when movies forced their female leads to be sex symbols for the audience. Movies always have aspects that are studio execs trying to appeal to audiences. You're just now noticing it about this for some weird reason.
@@AnimeFanOmega I'm not just noticing now. I agree with what you are saying. People are commenting more about it now because the quality of the productions have taken a serious nose dive. I don't care about the composition of the staff that is producing the product. These are irrelevant details. It just need to be good. And these studios are more concerned about their agendas rather than making good films.
@@Jfreire16 There's zero chance you actually believe that movies now are worse than they use to be. That's a case of "new thing bad" if I've ever seen it. Seriously, go back and look at random movies or TV shows from back in the day. NOT the obviously good ones. Those are the ones that are sticking in your head when you think back to old movies or TV shows. Literally executive interference has always been an issue in almost every realm of commercial art. I'd actually argue it's less involved now because of the advent of the internet and the ability for more artists to have more freedom with what they release.
I'm fine w minorities, feminism, lgbtq, trans stuff in movies but It's often shoved in your face. A great example of doing a disney movie right is is Moana. She's a strong female leader, but it doesn't have any one liners shitting on men or anything. She's also not focused on boys in the movie, but again the movie doesn't put down men or anything. That's my problem w so many of these "woke" movies. Idc if you put these characters in movies but they shove it in your face with one liners about how men are awful.
The problem is the crazy anti woke crowd don't just complain about the egregious stuff. Anything with diversity is bad, and anything bad is because diversity. Take the game Forspoken for example. So many people called it woke. Why? Because the protagonist is black? If she was white would the game still be woke? There isn't a single mention of race or anything these people would call "pandering" in the game. So it's pretty obvious they don't like diversity
@@tiktokexposed898it is woke, forespoken has many dei elements, many of the dialogue lines refer specifically to pro liberal or anti conservative opinions, and the fact that the main protagonist is a black female can be considered woke, as most gamers want to experience escapism, which would require the character to repesent them, how many gamers are black females? About 2%, so why is every second game coming out with a black female lead?
Diversity shouldn't be a check box anywhere, if they make an openworld game, let me make my own protagonist, if you want your game at max appeal, let the player decide.

First of that isnt true. Cuz even in amazing movies like across the spiderverse they were complaining because of the trans flag that popped up for like 3 seconds. It even got banned in certain countries because of that.
Your statements "no one is saying movies are bad because they have representation" and "representation is being used as a replacement for quality" contradict each other
@@johnedwards4313I don't see the contradiction there
Actually that is about all that anyone talking about women in roles and other things like that complains about. They hide by saying who is playing the role somehow reduces the quality.
No, they have a problem with representation itself.
Its obvious that this isn't true for two reasons: (1) people complain about movies / tv shows being 'woke' (i.e. having non-white or lgbt characters) just based off trailers and announcements, so they haven't actually seen the media yet and have no idea what the quality is. (2) People still complain about the representation even when the movie / tv show is of a higher quality (e.g. the Last of Us episode 3).
I’d say people overreact maybe 30% of the time.
- aloy being ugly = all western female characters are ugly now
- Abby from TLoU2 is trans when really she was just swole. Guys also didn’t like playing as a girl who gets fucked. (Which is understandable)
- people discounting Star Wars outlaws before it comes out.
- people were bitching and moaning about Finn a black guy being a storm trooper being lore inaccurate when it wasn’t.
There’s a bunch of bullshit like that, which shows a clear bias. However for every example there’s at least 2 that ARE justified outrage. And it’s typically due to antagonism from the creators of said media in the first place.
Exactly. YMS even admits that there are no real good female character nowadays. I too see this overreaction and often say hold on don't judge too quickly. But all too often the critics are right. So while I agree you should not judge too quickly I think people are just tired of it now and tend to overreact. They overreact that much that they tend to dismiss shows that are actually decent. Fallout is pretty good but I have to admit it is good DESPITE the woke elements. Of course they had to put a sexually ambiguous lesbian in the BROTHERhood. So I still feel it would be better without these elements but the writing is okay and the acting of Walton Goggins really sold it.
It's sad to see yms gaslighting this issue. I don't have a problem with trans or gay people in stories. But the problem me and a lot of others have when they are just used for ornaments or decorations instead of showing some aspects of humanity.
To add to this:
- "Women in world war game is unrealistic" in BF1, which is the least realistic world war game
- "Aloy being optionally gay is forcing me to watch gay p*rn." When the one gay scene, a kiss, requires continual and intentional player consent and action to have happen
I'd be curious what you would consider justifiable outrage? I think the "Joel is actually a bad dude" in TLoU2 and their anti-violence message was super cringe and worthy of being outraged over. But I don't think I can come up with 11 other examples of justifiable outrage over this stuff.
Except it is LEGITIMATE to say that they are making films political and pushing an agenda. They want out culture gayer and "diverse" which is just code for "Black" it would seem.

Outside of Happy Gilmore, Romeo and Juliet, Matilda, Independence Day, The English Patient, Twister, Scream, Fargo, From Dusk till Dawn, A time to kill, mission impossible, Mars attacks, Space Jam, Crash, kingpin, sleepers, 101 Dalmatians, the hunchback of note dame, the island of Dr. Moreau, stingers, Jack, Stealing Beauty, James and the Giant Peach, the Long kiss goodnight, outside of those, and a few others, I mean, pretty much the same as 2023.
hahaha, so true.
Damnit man, the early/mid 90s to the early 2000s was a golden age of movies. I'm not gonna say they're all bad now, but there sure aren't nearly as many good ones as there used to be, especially comedies.
I feel crazy because every time I bring this up people just tell me I'm being nostalgic, but there are maybe 2-3 good movies per year released recently and there used to be 10+ a year in the 90's-early 00s
Tbh I think this is not (just) because of the woke stuff, or the new setup of the companies.
My theory is that there has been a generational shift where tribal knowledge simply has not passed over to the next generation.
The people who made those movies are, largely, just not around anymore.
There are plenty of good movies to be found if you look. You can meme about the difference in the hyper visible mainstream maybe, there’s something to say about that. But good movies haven’t just disappeared or something. A lot of those movies named aren’t even these masterpieces or anything, they’re compared to bad movies put out now or have names people recognize and love behind them.

You're having a really nice discussion on a complete straw-man argument. Why don't you invite The Critical Drinker on, to understand what his actual aregument is?
To be clear, he doesn't claim that the same Ghosts Busters would be good if men were starring in it, but that the studios think they don't need to invest in a good script if they provide virtue signaling instead, such as all-female starring crew. BTW, doesn't the fac that Barbie was the best selling of the year mean that the crop is kinda thin?
"Why don't you invite The Critical Drinker on, to understand what his actual aregument is?"
Critical Drinker literally made a video complaining about The Acolyte trailer because it had too many women and ethnic minorities in it.
I know that sounds like a straw man but it isn't. He literally went on a rant about the show didn't have enough white male characters.
"he doesn't claim that the same Ghosts Busters would be good if men were starring in it, but that the studios think they don't need to invest in a good script if they provide virtue signaling instead"
Yes, we understand the argument:
When a movie starring a white male sucks - it just happens to be a movie starring a white male that sucks.
When a movie starring women sucks - that means that the movie sucks BECAUSE it starred women, because having a female lead somehow causes the writers to get lazy and write worse than they otherwise would have.
It's lazy and stupid gender war bait.

Dune was definately written as to be political, and even draws parallels to the real world, linking the melange and water to oil and scarcity of resources for example. It obviously is not about current events, the book was written in the 60s, and the comment was pretty stupid because it definately pointed in that direction, but it's not like the Palestinian conflict is new either. But it's just a weird ass example, Star Wars political aspects are pretty surface level and contingent to the story and aesthetic, but Dune is a weird story designed to explore Herbert's interests in philosophy, politics and religion.
My point beign, it's not incompatible to have both marvel fiction and uncompromising alienating fiction, and the existence of gay people is related to neither of them in the vast majority of cases, it's just trivial.
Also, yeah, the Dune books are not a coming of age story, wtf is that reading, the characters are barely human or relatable by desing: Paul is not becoming an adult, but a messianic figure
Usually not a commenter, but had to check the comments to make sure I wasn’t crazy, and it looks like I’m not. You two are just saying that “right wing” critics are mad about one gay person working one a movie? I have to think that you haven’t seen popular movies or tv shows recently, or you’re going straight to “conservatives are mad about gay people” without engaging with what they say. You can’t watch anything without getting slapped in the face with an agenda.
By all means, explain why you personally believe that gay people shouldn’t be allowed to be openly gay.
I have watched both conservative critics and the things they talk about and I don’t feel I’ve had an agenda shoved down my throat by the media they talk about nor do I think that’s the issue with the movies

@@matthewtheyobafromstartrak6069 Lazy writing by unqualified people who were hired due to anti-meritocratic hiring practices very much has to do with politics. Identity politics to be precise. If the most qualified person was still being hired for the job then you wouldn't have lazy writing.
I do think many movies and TV shows kind of shoehorn LGBTV issues into a show.
It would be so much better if a character is gay or trans and instead of it being a big moment, it's just who they are.
For example, I watched the TV Supergirl and they had a trans character and Supergirl stopped and said, “Thank you for sharing that with me”
Why not just have Supergirl say, “That's no problem, let's go beat the bad guy of the week”
I see people say that a lot but how do you distinguish the difference? It feel like in any piece of media of course everything is "forced". Everything is always the producer, writer and director making choices. It's just in the past people hated gays so much, no one would accept gay characters in anything so they made the choice to not have them.
Like with the super girl thing you mentioned, most gays still lose a friend or family member if they come out and they have to be careful if and when they mention it.
Especially now that conservatives are saying any mention, reference, depiction, acknowledgement of gays in public and media is "grooming and child abuse".
Let’s stop pretending trans are what they demand you play along with. Accepting yourself for who you truly are has nothing to do with regimens of hormones and surgeries.

The point missed is that there is a recent trend of having the premise of "replace traditional group with marginalized group" as a substitute for creativity. The priority isn't to take creative risks or make good creative decisions, but these other aspects. Of course "diverse" or "progressive" elements don't make movies bad in and of themselves. Fans encounter watered down updates of their favorite IPs and the thing that sticks out like a sore thumb are these inserted progressive themes, and as a result they become the target for criticism. The concentration of this anti-creative/artistic juxtaposition of priorities in movies released in a relatively short period of time has contributed to the memeification of this criticism.

I really don't understand why Destiny doesn't know how to dunk on these "anti-woke" arguments by this point.
First, the same people who complain about politics in "their" movies are the ones who are always bringing up the political angle in every kind of discussion. They are literally obsessed with anything that they attach to "wokeness".
However, what makes it even more sad is that these people are entirely oblivious to the fact that there has always been political/religious/social ideologies and agendas vehiculated in movies, even in the most braindead Arnold action films. The core of the problem is what YMS pointed out in this podcast: a lot of people are unaware of their own biases. They only notice what they dislike or disapprove of. Everything that they agree with or see as normal, they will simply never consider as "political" or as "pushing an agenda/ideology".
Sadly, you can't expect these people to ever acknowledge this because it would make them a lot less money (in the case of anti-woke UA-camrs/reviewers) and it would shatter their entire argument (the vast majority of the anti-woke crowd online).
I really wish more humans used their brain in this world.
"I really wish more humans used their brain in this world." I think you are intentionally choosing not to use yours. Or at least your eyes and ears. This stuff isn't subtle. Subtle political messaging that wasn't seen as a main selling point of a film can be good. Bruh, look at CD’s video for “Star Wars: The Acolyte.” There isn’t anything to go off of because the show looks boring, but throughout the video, CD hyper focuses on there being “no white people, only diverse females” and that the show is created by “Harvey Weinstein’s former assistant.”
He hyper focuses on these two things to justify why the show will be bad because he’s pandering to his audience. He re-edited this video recently because people confronted CD about the implications he was making with his claims (“the new show by Harvey Weinstein’s former assistant”) based on zero evidence. But if you look up the discussion he has for the show in his After Hours podcast, he still describes the show as “from Harvey Weinstein’s former assistant.” Not only that, but his buddy, Nerdrotic, is literally parroting CD and also referred to the ” The Acolyte” as “The new show by Harvey Weinstein’s assistant.” They’re doing what YMS and Destiny both stated in this video, they’re riling up their audiences by stating baseless claims.

I think the critics are suggesting there is an issue that's more wide spread than the example they're picking to illustrate it.
The thing is, all sides of politics cherry pick examples that accentuate their views and concerns. The same happens on the left. Shapiro gets most of his marketing through offended progressives getting offended by him and using him as an example of "right-wingers hyper focusing on culture wars".
Moral panic on the right is matched by moral panic on the left. Cherry picking the worst offenders is equivalent on both sides. I say this as someone who is watching a lot of left and right content.
Dune was great, Oppenheimer was a complete 0/10, couldn't finish it. No plot, no real characters despite so much time focused on this boring loser, "wow the universe is like big man, im tormented by these big brain ideas" that's all you get, horrible. Just random and unconnected lame events.

And Barbie wasn't even really explicitly feminist, or anti feminist, they took shots in both directions. To me it was kinda down the middle, they criticized extreme misogyny and extreme feminism.
I disagree with all of that. How the sequel trilogy screams "gay woman" to you is fucking wild.
I get that you're mad that they let a lesbian direct a Star Wars or whatever but half of this shit is made up.
Terminator 2 and Aliens are two franchises infinitely more woke than the sequel trilogy. Every point Critical Drinker makes about women being portrayed as stronger than men I can point out in Aliens, beat for beat. Yet not a single person can tell me why Forspoken is woke.
It's all made up and ever changing set of variables called the message. It means absolutely nothing.
@@lukaszzylik4437 it’s more that nerds/fandoms are seeing their favorite IPs all go to shit.
Add in that these IPs…Marvel, Star Wars, etc used to be money printing machines. So like any big business, they wanted to expand the audience. Only problem is they forgot to get good writers while oversaturating the market.
What’s also so odd is that their movies were making billions before they tried to expand the market. I understand when you look at your numbers and see a 90/10 male to female split you see dollar signs if you can add to the female sign and retain the males. But holy hell, making a billion dollars wasn’t enough? lol.
I think these Anti-woke creators have some ground to stand on when it comes to Marvel because it was kinda nuts for a year it was all about new female superhero’s. Now that’s not inherently a bad thing, but couple that with dogshit writing and you get UA-cam channels like NerdRotic.
TLDR.
Star Wars/Marvel isn’t shit because woke, it’s because of bad writing/greed.
Not a single Star Wars show has ever been marketed to "gay women"
I was gonna turn this episode off cause I hadn't seen Oppenheimer yet, but I reckon I'll keep watching lol
Guest with L take. UA-camr movie reviewers are able to only watch a trailer or see a director casting and instantly have that take for good reason. We are now at the point where time, after time, after time, after time, after time, after time Marvel and Star Wars have flat out said they haven’t read the source material. Or that they don’t care what the fans think. They admit they just want to push an agenda.
Injecting identity politics into movies has ruined many a movie
@TheCalculatorisIn if I were to take a wild guess it's politics based on identity, gender, racial, sexual orientation etc. Race swapping a character to black, is identity politics. They want to push their political ideas using identity as its basis.
@@slykeren8371 You just think a gay character simply existing in a movie is "identity politics"
@@user-xm4bg4gp4w if I see a gay character in a movie, and I am therefore 99.9% sure that that character cannot be a bad guy in any way, is that my bigotry, or is it writers in general currently being completely predictable?
@@solanumlycopersicum5594 No, the bigotry is that you only will accept gay characters if they are the villain. Funny how back in the day so many villains were portrayed as gay and everyone loved that.
@@user-xm4bg4gp4wyou think having a gay relationship forced into every film is normal, you are literally just forcing your own agendas on people and if it was religion being forced on you we all know youd be crying like the leftist you are
The Dune part of this interview was so frustrating lol. I haven't read the book, and even I know it's not a YA story Destiny; nothing about the story presentation comes across that way. Also, they just didn't really connect at all with, but they also weren't really paying attention or had an impression and checked out...and it shows with some of the comments. Them viewing Feyd-Rautha as a "big bad guy" made it clear.
However, if they didn't connect with it...oh well.
You'd think Destiny would have read the book at some point. Its literally been used as a textbook in colleges for politics.
@@Vsn24Destiny doesn't read books. He has extreme ADHD which forces him to play video games 16 hours a day.
Destiny movie takes are caustic.
@@Alex-vk9rx not gonna lie, I feel him on the ADHD shit
@@Vsn24 Literally?
I was so distracted because the guy in the video sounds like Homer Simpson.
I’ve been following Adum, Destiny, MauLer and Drinker since ~2017. Prior to any of them knowing each other.
The rise of their fame and the subsequent crossover events have been….weird lol.
At this point if Adum ends up talking with Asmongold, or if Stephen Fry interviews Destiny and MauLer I wouldn’t be surprised.
YMS has some good movie takes but his political takes remind you that he's definitely a Canadian. He's also either ignorantly or purposefully being as bad faith as humanely possible with his take on conservative movie reviewers as if they're just looking for something to "make political" when the directors have often made it quite clear that their intention is to be political. It would be nice for him to actually have a conversation with some of these people.
He's too scared to confront conservative movie reviewers. He just wants someone to echo his biases. Typical Canadian
He had a talk with the EFAP guys, and they did not let him get away with this bullshit, nailing him down on statements he made.
They remained nice throughout, but he no longer associates with them, apparently because of that talk.
As a fan of Adam I gotta say, it was immensely disappointing.
Really shows how biased and disingenuous you are. Conservatives consider the very existence of a gay character to be "political". Conservatives hate gays. Therefore when a conservative sees a gay character in anything, they complain and have a meltdown.
I think that both things happen. I think that some conservative movie reviews absolutely go out of their way to make things political where they don’t need to be.
@@maddox9511 I agree with you, but I can't really blame some of them when the vast majority of recent non-political "diversity hires" or "woke movies" are generally in the same vein as the movies that are trying to be political. So it can be hard to tell the difference.
It should also be noted that many people who hate woke movies aren't even conservative in the first place. They're just sick of being preached to.
This is such a first level take. It is true that the movies didnt fail JUST BECAUSE they had representation, however it did contribute to it. Lets take the female Ghost Busters, how many jokes in that movie would have to be redone if it was a male cast? 25%, 50%, 75%? It is a comedy, so the answer here matters. Also some of these new movies fails before they are even released, due to the bad press given to them by its stars(See Marvel, Snow White etc). The biggest problem it seems Hollywood is having right now, is that they struggle with making interesting female roles, while wanting to have more females on the screen. Also the pandering is too much, an example would be beauty and the beast with Emma Watson, we are gonne pretend that the french nobility had blacks in it? Not only a few blacks, it seems about 50%. I understand that we are going into a fantasy world, but even the fantasy world shouldnt deviate too much from our own perception of the world. Which is another thing Hollywood seems to want to change(our perception of the world).
If you want to lend from an already excisting world(here the french nobility), then you should try to represent it as close to reality as possible. Just think a new movie about the zulu empire, starring 50% white people(maybe more, cause representation), it would be weird.
Nobody is going to Ben for his takes on the movies, and all the critics worth their salt who do hate these movies hate them precisely because they've sacrificed creativity at the altar of diversity
The thing is, they could have made a really good all-female ghostbusters movie if they had any imagination at all.
Imagine it was a sequel instead of a reboot, and the daughters of the original ghostbusters inherit the family business when the original guys retire. You could have funny cameos from the original cast and a whole NEW storyline that continues the legacy of the beloved franchise without spitting on the nostalgia of the original movie fanbase.
If they had a writer and not a director who said "you're all funny let's just ad lib!". Maybe. Shit they had snl writers on the cast and didn't let them write lol
This dude's takes on movies are almost as bad as Destiny's, and I'm not even talking about the politics discussion
