  • USMNT Head Coach Gregg Berhalter joins Colin Cowherd to discuss World Cup group play and how they will fare up against England. He then discusses how he will choose between Matt Turner and Zack Steffen at goalkeeper, along with the advantage of players competing in the top international leagues contrary. Berhalter shares their mindset playing in the Group tournament as the youngest team in the World Cup and the game plan against England with a young, attacking squad. He also shares his expectations for Christian Pulisic and why Tyler Adams and Weston McKennie are young stars to watch on the USMNT. Berhalter explains why the USWNT's success does not add more pressure on his squad.

@@eddievangundy4510 so Gareth Bale just signed up to play minor league along with 7 other major European players in just the last month. Top talent from South America leave major soccer countries to come here and play minor league? Take some time follow MLS for just a little bit and you will see it is not the same league it was ten years ago. Apple didn’t pay 250 million plus dollars to broad cast a minor league team. ESPN and fox are not bidding for television rights for a minor league.

I think it would help Colin to understand the structure of the WC tournament and understand the road map that the group stage establishes for teams that make the knockouts if he wants to truly know what the prospects of the USMNT are in this WC. If you get out of the group stage as a 2nd seed, that’s good, but then you’re slotted to play a group winner that could very obviously be one of the World Cup title contenders. If you win the group it makes it much easier to win your round of 16 match ‘cause you’re going up against the runner up of the group adjacent to you which in this case would be group A(The Netherlands, Senegal, Ecuador, and Qatar). Quarterfinals onward are always gonna be some of the toughest matches to win at the international level so it would be of great benefit to the USMNT’s confidence if they top a group with England in it. They’ve already done it before in 2010. Do it again, make the path for yourself easier, especially in a group A that doesn’t have an overwhelmingly world-class team in their group, although Senegal and the Netherlands are obviously very good as well

Greg and his team look ready to roll to me and I think are going to really play and do well in this World Cup. Like Cowherd said, yeah the GK'er situation isnt what it has been for the U.S in the past but ya know what? So.freaking.what.
I'm tired of the best player on our team being the GK'er, I'm stoked that we have some serious YOUNG (keyword here) talent on in the field, not in net.
Saying that, I think Matt Turner will be our starter in net will do just fine.
I think this team will make the final four in this World Cup.

Don’t care, Gregg just ain’t it. I’ve seen his fanboys defend this dude over and over and he proves our points every time when he keeps doing things wrong. After this WC, bro gotta go. Could care less if we pass the group stage. This reeks of Chelsea and the whole situation with Claudio ranieri managing us, but taking us to 4th place so Roman could buy the club, and then he was let go so then Mourinho could lead the line in the champions league and in a new owner era. Gregg sorta did what he had to do, wasn’t pretty, but he did it. Congrats to him. Now, it’s time to say goodbye and appoint a coach with actual tactical ideology and smarts, to take over this squad and lead it to the potential it can very well reach, not settle for mediocrity and biased choice selection for the sake of “well, well, but.. but, he took us to the gold cup and nations league and passed the World Cup!!” Don’t care. It was pitiful the way that we won those games in all of those competitions. We almost didn’t make it to the WC. This guy isn’t it, and it’s clear.

I don't like to have the same coach for multiple WC cycles, it never seems to work out. That being said. GB has so far achieved everything he was hired to do and more. Ultimately he will be judged on how we do at the WC. TBF a lot of the things that people continually rag him about and say he doesn't know what he doing, ended up with GB being correct and the fans wrong. I give you the Joe Scully situation as one of many examples. Maybe it's time for you to consider that the professional knows whats going on and you don't?
