Get a president in the Federation that had ever played soccer first.
Change the way the MLS is structured.
All the academies have to stop charging money to the kids over 10 that have potential to become pro.
Get rid of the stupid idea that you have to go through college before you go to the MLS.
*THIS IS HOW YOU CHANGE THE CULTURE*

The three more popular sports all have commercialized youth leagues. The soccer teams just need to up the attendance for games in their own respective cities.

The last one has happened mostly, and it's not the MLS academies themselves, it's the other youth academies that MLS academies look at. MLS academies aren't looking at places with the most available talent because the most available talent can't afford to get on other youth sides.

@DonCervantes add to that "winning" and "scholarships". I coached my daughters club team from age 8-18. The best "team" in the state for the first few years had 200 kids to tryouts.....they stole my best player and others (i only had 17 kids at tryouts, community team)....and they won the state cup. However, i went to a cup game of theirs......all great athletes....only 3 good soccer players. The soccer was awful. Complete waste of talent!!!!! When winning becomes more important then development.......we have "missed it". Develope first.....the wins will come.
Parents and coaches need to change their thinking of what is important........winning now and scholarship mentality at ages 8-14 needs to be dropped.

I'm french and i'm worry about USMNT (not for mls it will be a wonderfull league in some decades) . I will complete what written Perston Greene with my own words and a different angle.
Nowaday the first problem for the USMNT is the US mindset. Every country have his own style build about his country mindset. USMNT is like americans people. With a rough style, very offensive and weak defensively. A game of individual flashes and not a collective game built since the defense.

We need futsal courts for the youth, not just basketball courts at every playground. Otherwise we should stick with suburban style ball, ie long ball and athleticism, which can work. It has gotten better clubs like NYCFC and NY Red Bull’s Dallas and Seattle have really invested in the academy’s and it’s shown Weston McKennie came from Dallas academy and produced a couple more players who I think can make the jump to Europe NYCFC helped produce gio Reyna sent joe scally to gladbach and have a player in James sands who could make the jump the Red Bull’s produced Tyler adams and have players like Aaron long who was linked with west ham Seattle produced Clint Dempsey and yedlin unfortunately once you get passed those four clubs it’s very hit or miss but overall it is a lot better then it gets credit for

The USA failing to qualify for the World Cup from CONCACAF was far more embarrassing than Italy of the Netherlands failing to do so from UEFA, or Chile failing to do so from CONMEBOL (or even Argentina if they’d have failed to make it).
Both the USA and Mexico should have an automatic ticket to every World Cup from CONCACAF. Mexico nearly threw away their ticket for the 2014 World Cup, but were ironically saved by the USA. The USA actually threw away their ticket for Russia in 2018.

Watching this as an Brit makes me feel sorry for the Americans that genuinely care about football, when ever any European or South American national team fails to meet the required standards its viewed by the respective country almost like a national embarrassment, change is demanded and change usually happens. The whole setup from top to bottom gets the blame not just the manger and the players, like the guy in the video says it takes years to see the changes take affect but if it’s done right it can pay off big time. Unfortunately with the USA because football isn’t held in anywhere near the same regard as in Europe and South America it seems they won’t get the required changes that have to be made as there is nowhere near as much demand for it from the people.

When Taylor Twellman says Iceland is a small country, yes he is right but he has missed a MASSIVE point ... Iceland is a European country and FOOTBALL is the predominant sport in Europe.
You can learn from this ... its down to all your football authorities to collectively work together and put things right ... Its great that the U.S. Canada and Mexico are holding The 2026 World Cup ... Football will grow in North America don't give up!.

@Zealous Tiger It is now, though. The youth system is being restructured and pay-to-play is finally going to end. Within 5 years it will be fully eradicated with the new structure in place. The funding will come from MLS, they will fund the youth teams just as they have done with their own club academies, creating a Free-to-Play youth system. Kids of all backgrounds will get to play for free, then we can really find some talents and more of them at once. With the new national team being the strongest in US history already with legitimate talents in most of the starting 11 so far with more to come, and the 2026 World Cup being here, they can be huge catalysts for Football in the US taking that final step and taking off for good.

The thing that's missing in America is the culture around football (soccer ). In the US, it's a side sport for the rich or those who go to college. In the rest of the world, particularly in Europe, it's a religion and way of life. I'm from the UK and since I was around 5 years old I have played football with friends, using jumpers for goalposts, played in amateur teams, watched my local professional team play and watched it on TV at least once a week, often often a dozen times. There are hundreds of stories about young kids from Africa or South America playing with a deflated ball in the streets of their towns, before making it as a pro and moving to Europe.
Americans will be behind as long as they treat football as a secondary sport. The results of a match in the rest of the world can make or break a person's entire week. The US need to start by promoting football for free to kids and introducing relegation to their domestic league

    • @dnick91095
      @dnick91095 3 роки тому +2

I disagree. Implementing relegation isn't the end all be all, but rather the interest in the domestic league and the sport as a whole. There's simply not enough teams at this moment in time to sustain a multiple-division system. Investment in the youth has been providing dividends since 2017 or so with this new crop of players. Perhaps more developed youth systems for the MLS teams. The MLB, NBA, etc do not have relegation yet those are the best athletes in their respective sports

We're almost there, just need to take the last step. Already hearing excuses that "a draw/loss vs El Salvador or Honduras is fine because it's hard to play there" which is eerily similar to what Taylor rants about here with the "field being too wet" remark. Even Tyler Adams in an interview today said they expect to earn 9 points this window and I hope that the rest of the fanbase can accept those kinds of standards instead of making pre-excuses that won't help us grow.
