@@christomo thanks mate. The foil is a beast, in the best ways! Not the best choice for this race but had the wind turned against us… 🙄 I’m looking forward to a few more races now 🤙🤙
i have a question about that new foil, the angle can be more to have a faster foil than a lifter foil? im looking where you have your back leg comparing when you go with the 1401 or 1180sf
@@Elninosurfcenter there’s so much in play trying to work out something by looking at the stance… to judge something by seeing the back foot you’d have to understand how much pressure the front foot has on it. This foil is quite different to both those foils, it’s more of a sit back and carve king of foil. The 1401 comparatively likes to go much faster and seems to need to maintain its speed to create lift vids the speed. This one is happy lifting at slow speeds. I’m pushing it to it’s limits here and holding it down very flat to the water, it’s not how it should be ridden I’d say. Does this somewhat answer your question? 🤙🤙
@downwind_drifter great!! Thanks for the info and your videos. Im going with same board and foil like you and i want to untherstand why we go different, but also can be the energy from the wave
Hi. Great videos!!! I am 83Kg one year with my Armstrong dw board 8.2 x 21 128l. Flat water, bay runs; surf small waves and approx 20 dw runs in open ocean of 6k to 10km done (1 to 2km without falling) with the apf 1350 foil. Thinking to go to the dwp 8.11 x 17 108 liter. Do you think it’s too narrow, too small in liters? Too hard in terms of stability? Thx mate and a happy Christmas And by the way how is the horizon in terms of stability and does it work with Armstrong foils?
@@RamonSBruhn sounds like you’re ready to move forward” you’ve built a solid foundation, congratulations 🤙🤙 You likely don’t need to actually change your board to get up that foil as it doesn’t really require much forward speed. What is it in particular you’re after? I can guess, I’d assume you want to paddle up smaller foils? An upgraded board will definitely help for that. If you’re set on Armstrong then the 8’11 is likely a good choice, I doubt you’ll find it too narrow. I have seen what’s coming from Axis and it is worth investigating and would be where I’d direct you. I have tried the new line of boards and they are excellent, truly excellent. All my other boards have been sold or are in the process of, there is no comparison. I believe they will be out every soon, as in you can maybe start asking your local foil shop. The north horizon is decent with stability especially the 8’4, it should work well with Armstrong and likely all the brands.
@@downwind_drifter Thx a million for the detailed answer 🙂 Yes, now the small downwind runs I am doing are super physical. I am 50 years, quiet in shape but not 30 any more jajaja. SO I think that maybe downwinding in bigger foils as the apf1350 is more physical because I can often miss to jump to the bump in front and have to pump sidewards or back to take the next bump, it requieres high concentration and very physical. Hope that on smaller foils as the HA1180, or dwp930 it gets less physical and want a board which makes the paddle up easier on these foils. What do you think?? But I am afraid if the stability would be an issue on the 8.11 x 17 108l board with my 85Kg ?? How is the stability compared to the North 7.10 x 18 115l ?? And does the North works well with the Armstrong foils, sufficient length in the mast track?? Axis is a greta brand but no local dealer here. Thx a million!!!!
Go pro 11, I think. I film in the widest capture with the standard lens and then shrink it down a touch during editing. I don’t like the fish eye effect and try to minimise it as much as possibles. 🤙🤙
@@downwind_drifterGreat will do the same. 👍I heared that wind reduction switches of the (better) front mic completely and you only get (bad) sound from the tiny mic on top of the cam…so probably no bueno in most cases…
@ oh, it’s a menu option? If so I havnt tried it… I’ve tried the soft foam sleeve - wind slayer - but it made the camera heat up and fog… the floaty seems to do enough for wind protection, you’d be a better judge of that than me! It’s hard to watch ones own vids and be able to watch as a viewer 🤙😅🤙

Great watch. The foil looks great, nice and big and seemed to turn well , some great insights into foiling thanks for sharing 👍
