Day one of Hot Rod Drag Week was a fast one! Ned Dunphy's SMX Dodge Viper ran its quickest time in drag and drive competition with an impressive 6.19/247mph! There were six six-second cars in total at National Trails Raceway including Bryant Goldstone, Dave Schroeder, David Armentrout, Steven Spiess and Alex Taylor (from Hot Rod Garage). Clark Rosenstengel and Alan Whitaker were also very close with their SMX machines! Mike Finnegan (from Mike Finnegan's Garage) and Tony Angelo (from Stay Tuned) are looking good in the A/Gas class with a nearly perfect start to their week as they were able to get on the road much earlier than they are used to. Remember to watch the Motortrend live stream to keep up with Drag Week!
We'll also remind you to check out 1320 Video and their coverage of Rocky Mountain Race Week presented by Sick The Magazine!
Full terms and conditions for Gasser Giveaway at sickthemagazine.com. No purchase required. The promotion starts on July 29, 2024 and ends on September 30, 2024.
Thank you for zooming in on the big end so we can see the numbers!
Thanks for the coverage of this event. Great job 😊.
It will be sweet to see NED and the SMX pull a 5
he was close
I hope Pete has got that hot rod dialed in.
GODSPEED
Finnigans 55 BLASPHEMI is always a treat to see and that insane VIPER is AWESOME!
Thank you Mr Bailey, and everyone that makes these races possible. I've been to every sick week at Orlando speed world. I would never have got to spectate drag and drives if you hadn't brought one down here. And now you've got multiple events. It's amazing. Thank you to all the drivers and Co pilots too.
Finn finally taking the time to get the car dialed in before showing up and it shows glad to see him running well
I like seeing that he has it sorted out
Been posting on his channel forever that he needed to put in a real slipper clutch. So glad that he finally did it! Made the car 100x more predictable to launch and tames it down on the gear changes which have both been long time issues with the car. Go Fin!
Am I the only one that loves Ned's hat?
How insane is that. ??? A Viper doing SIXES and cruising the street to boot..... Just phenomenal. 💪😁 👊
I love seeing the footage from the drive.
I agree, racing is racing but for me I just love seeing cars that "shouldn't be on the road" cruising hundreds of miles.
5:11, that's what gives me goosebumps.
I got a wild hair this morning after work and went out to see this I'm so glad I did. I managed a 2 hour nap and back to work. 12 hr shifts suck , but getting to see the drag races today was worth the lack of sleep. Big thanks to the random guy who gifted me his tickets as I was driving in . I gave the extra to the guy behind me. i may try and go the hebron just for the hell of it on friday.
GO GET EM NED!
Ned has been soooooooo much fun to watch.
it’s a shame that Tom and Steve are not there, seeing Tom and Neil go head to head would of been awesome
The Ruster Duster in the first race clip ❤
That Viper is EVERYTHING. Heckin' yeah!
Steve Morris engines are the cats meow!
Damn - I made a Bailey video!!!!
Hell yeah !!
I reckon we could see Ned hit 5 secs this week. His hotrod is damn quick
Excellent video!!👍 Especially liked the driver's interviews! I was there! Had an awesome time!!! Met some great folks! Thanks!
Great coverage once again boys loving it from Victoria australia killing it finnigan 🤙🏻 also R.I.P HARRY HAIG HE WILL DEFINITELY BE TUNED IN WATCHING YOU GUYS HAVING A LAUGH
The blue Viper is so SICK!!!!!!! And a cool ass dude driving it
The dude from Canada with blue Vette looks like he could be Finnegans dad
Good morning everyone hope everyone has a blessed day
great coverage please more drive when possible thanks tom & team
9:27 Hey Charger ✌
Its actually an Australian car, dont remember the name Monaro or something like that!
@@bobaque70 yes it is an Australian car it's a Valiant Charger built by Chrysler Australia the " Hey Charger✌️" was used in that ad campaign back in the 70's . The Monaro was built by Holden 👍
I love that they included the Buick GN that oiled down the whole track 😂
4:04 out of all the fancy tech I see on these race cars, that hat is the most brilliant thing at the track
That is the nicest Viper I have ever seen, and with SMX power, what more could you ask?
sad not seeing a post from Harry Haig reminding everyone in aus to watch drag week and have a few coldies. Rip Big Dawg.
It's neat how they did the waste gate exhaust to make it seem like that viper still has a v10.
That's good stuff
I want one of those hats
Fans and solar. 😮
Great footage mate. Really enjoyed your coverage.
Looking forward to day 2.
Nice to see the Oz John Faraone Charger give it stick👍
Maybe an interview?
Having race week and drag week on the same week has me all confused lol
Me too!
Nice people around this event
Good job Finn! Blasphemi is good but that Viper is sick!!!! Damn!!!
Awesome 👌 thank you for letting me be apart of something badA...great content
Camera man sounds like an Aussie
Yep, and that’s what keeps the bounce in his step for a whole day in the heat. 😁👍
@kylestephenson3004; @robm.4512;
If You have followed this channel or even viewed the recent videos, the young man that records these videos, edits, sometimes speaks within interviews or introductions, is Luke from Australia.
All The Best, Sincerely
Very nice car's thanks 👍
Great coverage. Maybe zoom out a smidge on your interviews.
Would be awesome to see a Harry Haig memorial trophy of some sort, he motivated and entertained so many 😢
Hang on, I saw some comment about this the other day and assumed it might have been Harry Snr (I don't even know what Harry's father's name was thou). Your telling me our beloved Aussie larrikin Harry Haig died!?! It can't be true, he was so young! What happened? I met him and his kids while both of us were completing in Australia's first Drag Challenge on the first day at Heathcote raceway, back when his old turbo 4 door HQ was purple... I'm in shock
24:50 WOW! I never saw a 72 Vega at a drive-&-drag.
And this one is flawless. What a beautiful car. Wonder
what he's doing to run such a respectable number.. (9.1)
Cuz at 2500 lbs it doesn't take much.
Love that solar fan hat
Love It! Where can I get one of those solar fan hats.hahaha
FinnagimFinally made it down the track
Love the BadA$$ Gasser Clutch Car!
Stage two will be . . ..
The woods are lovely, dark, and deep, but I have promises to keep. And miles to go before I sleep, and miles to go before I sleep. Remember. Miles to go before I sleep.
Thanks for showing a few Chrysler products
Ned and goldstone gonna be the ones to watch, I’m rooting for Ned but goldstone is a solid player
Fin defines cool!
We got 2 drag weeks going on same time 🎉🎉 seem like the faster cars is here
Seems like? Lol.
@@allieandbo yea cause the other race week day 1 no one went into the 6s I’ll check day 2 to see if anything changed
@@faithwalker8665 My man the faster cars are MOST DEFINITELY here. By far.
@@allieandbo i see that now
@@faithwalker8665 Way better event IMO
Let’s go team 🇨🇦 . Get we sorted out asap 🤙😎
"I absolutely refuse to go slipper clutch" - finnegan 2016-2024
Sometimes you just gotta change your mind for a faster car.
Heck yeah dude
Thanks for the video.
If I'd build a car myself I'd probably pick a Viper.
It just looks like it was designed for Drag Racing to me.
I See a 5 sec run from Dunphy this Week !
Make this look more fun. I'm trying to convince my wife to take her 400rwhp C4 on a drag and drive,
GREAT VIDEO TOM!!!!!!
It's great to not see 8000 Mustangs
0:05 19th anniversary, 20th running.
I want to know more about the Green Dart at 22:52!
Anymore information on the pickup truck with the engine in the back (bed) ?
Love Finnigan as much as he changes the 55 its soul stays the same.
On your way back to Hebron Ohio, contact Lucore automotive about a front end alignment. It may help your et. I’m sure Rich would work his tail off to get you in Thursday evening to work on your car. Good Luck
ok that hat Ned is wearing is awesome where can i get me one of them.Someone out there must know
It must have been red light day on Drag Week.
Hold on a sec…. Does Ned have solar powered fans on his hat????
No in-depth review of those bad boys??? 4:12
Trailer hitches on drag cars. Who'da thunk!!
If you red light on your only pass of the day does it still count or do you not have a time posted for that day?
Man, I just want to see that guy do a Sean Connery impersonation. Lol (6;10)
I'm thinking more of Kenny Rogers. . because 815 to 830 you gotta know when to hold 'em, when to fold 'em . . . .
Good to see Finnegan isn't going to stay up 120 straight hours to get his car to finish
It's early yet ... 😄
Are there slower classes in these drag and drives? I'd love to participate in one , but my autocross car would probably run a 12-13 second.
"We put a new front end under the car..." Translation: "Thanks Scott's Hotrods of Knoxville, Tennessee for putting a new front end under my car."
We ??!!! (We) seen how that was done ✅ good job Scott’s HotRods !!
Do you go around thanking everyone that you spent money to get something done? He made a whole video showing who did the work but I can guarantee it was not a free job.
@@damianlindsey6177 you already know
@@johnk3930 I think its killer and Fin does shout out most every single place that does work for him. Wish they weren't clear across the state from me otherwise I'd have them do my front end too
@@damianlindsey6177 I could use a front end as well ,, and I agree he does do the shout out !! Looks like it’s working. His car is looking pretty good.
Does Dunfy not have a Gear Vendor’s OD unit in his Viper?
What does Mike mean by a slipper clutch? How is it physically different from a normal diaphragm style single plate clutch. Is it just a solid centre friction disc with some trick friction lining rhat doesn't mind getting hot, or are we starting to talk about something that uses adjustable weights to control how abruptly and at what RPM it engages, like a top fuel car type clutch- or is it something totally different again? Would really appreciate some info guys, thank you... 🙂
Watch the latest video on Finnegans channel. He goes into all the detail about it. Basically it's adjustable weights and pressure in a similar way the clutches you mention.
@@ErewhonGB Ahhh, I suspected that was the case. I haven't looked at his channel in ages for some reason- will look for it though. Thanks for the answer 👍
Please talk to whomever runs the blue Nova at 26:16. Sucker rips!
What makes a gasser?
DO YOU STILL HAVE THE SLIPPER CLUTCH IN IT .
That you got from that guy last year or so .
Watch Finnegans channel. He's just fitted a proper slipper clutch. He took the slipper device off during testing before having the proper slipper fitted.
hang on wait a second ,ive been watching 1320 coverage of a drag week also ,is this a different drag week ,i mean surely they couldnt run two drag weeks could they ,they have that lil Blaine kid and hes dad in a station wagon and that canadian fella who drives 10000000 miles to get to day 1 ,i know im a dumd Aussie but is this a different one or the same one ???
Rocky Mountain race week is on at the same time by the looks
Cleetus runs a slipper clutch in Leroy and that thing get's down for a manual trans car and should be quicker with the new body on it too
The new front suspension doesn't look right takes away from the gasser look love those straight axles.
So you must be doing well. There are crybabies complaining about the missing solid axle
Wheres Harry Haigh?
@@thepieguy4522 he sadly passed away a few weeks ago in a car accident in Victoria australia Race In Paradise Harry 💙
Considering that most of the vehicles we see in these races are 20 to 70 years old, I predict that 20 years from now, drag race will struggle finding cars to modify as almost every vehicle sold these days are SUVs. Drag race with SUVs will be boring. Guys, keep buying cars, stop buying SUVs.
is this 1/8 mile?
First time watching drag racing?
@@allieandbo just like I thought 1/8 mile sucks.
@@mikeseguin-g6p Cars are running low 7 second passes at 200mph and you don't know if that's a 1/4 mile or 1/8th mile pass?
do they run 1/8 or 1/4 mile?
@@riverracer 1/4 mile
@@craigmolson1407 thanks, hard to tell with the camera angles sometimes.
@@riverracer look at the mph and time of anyone does a 6.70 pass at 210 in the 1/8 something is wrong
There's 1/8th mile classes as well.
Looks like the 1/8 and 1/4 are marked with one triangle atop the rail and two facing the track
This does not look like a sport working stiffs would be competitive in.
One sketchy track!
Glad to see a variety of brands not just junky LS swapped fox body mustangs.
What is width Canadians abbreviating things? They seem to have a knack for abbreviated days that nobody else abbreviate and doing it in the weirdest way. For instance, at 555 Chec???? A rad. Air con
Nobody else? You mean Americans. Australians abbreviate it to Chev. Brits use rad and air con too.
@@the318pop, but we Americans extend with to width... apparently.
reason for super closeup of this guys perfect teeth .....WTF
👍🏽🇺🇸👍🏽
Listening to Alex Taylor talk is the worst!
Scoreboard is crap almost impossible to see the times
Tracks haven't figured out that red is a dark color. Yellow against the black is worlds better.
People still love other sports too, but they get it!

@TheF1shh; which Deraingement Syndrome do You have that leads to this nonsensical mindset, view ??!! :-O
What's your cars et ?
tom and steve dropped out bc they're scared of that viper
