- I spent my university years in Manila near Quiapo, and it was my go-to place to buy school supplies, school uniforms and cheap hamburgers and lumpia. I still remember walking pass those beautiful grand houses and buildings, and I used to imagine what it would have been like to live on those houses.
Fast forward 40 years later, and many of the houses I used to admire were gone, while some are now in the sad state of dis-repair. This was once the home of Manila's wealthiest families!
Join me as we take a nostalgic trip to the old district of Quiapo, visiting those grand houses (or what's left of them). We will also visit two important churches of Quiapo, the San Sebastian and Quiapo churches, as well as plazas (Del Carmen and Miranda), important streets like Hidalgo, the old Alcarraga, Legarda, Bilibid Viejo, Villalobos and Echague, and also Manila's oldest market, the Quinta Market!

Medyo matagal na akong Hindi nakakarating dyan parang 1974 na huling nakita ko yan
marami na nagbago. but I love Quiapo. it's a melting pot of culture.
Back in the 1970''s Quiapo Church was promoted for tourism as the Best Baroque church in the Philippines in 1984 it was renovated and expanded but Vandalized by modernist developer Quiapo Church can be declared as Heritage site but it should be restored first to it 's former glory as the best Baroque church in the Philippines you have included the old photograph of the interior of this church you can see how beautiful it was then
thank you for the info. I think the old design characteristics were sacrificed so that the church can accommodate more people.
@@josephbautista4401 but the developer should have given emphasis to it's reputation as the best Baroque church in the Philippines the new design should conform to it's Baroque architecture the expanded area should be in Baroque style what they did back in 1984 was Facadism they demolished the Central part of the church and retain the facade and the rear side the effect is architectural monstrosity the modern interior is so out of place that the true character of the church is lost

nice! nostalgic!
Let’s admit it Manila really is just not a pretty city. As a matter of fact it’s ugly and dirty.
There’s no uniformity, no distinct style, no landmarks, no zoning, no order, old ugly buildings and ones that are actually nice to look at with ornamental facade are never restored to its former glory. It can never be compared to its Asian neighbors I swear.
Thank god for its beautiful and amazingly good hearted and happy smiling people.
totally agree!
