The lead singer, Eric Burdon, was 22 when this was released in 1964. Love this song. He will be 81 in May. Another great song of theirs is Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood.
In 1964, only The Animals & Ray Charles had the new harpsichord that had just been released. The subject is a brothel/gambling house in NOLA❣️
Got to agree yep good voice but the band made it unique!!! Not just the voice !!!
Eric Burden had been singing it since he was 14 or 15.
Eric Burdon was so young but sang like he was 60 with a lifetime of experience! The bass player later became the the manager for Jimi Hendrix. Fantastic group. This is the first song I learned to play on the guitar.
The Animals are so good, I’m so happy you reacted to this! I recommend Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood and We Gotta Get Out Of This Place for more songs by them!!
Great suggestions - yes!
Sky Pilot
Their cover of Ring Of Fire is up there too.
That dude with the guitar at the end, the one grinning like a fool, cracks me up every time 😄😄
Hilton Valentine! He's smiling because, when they were being filmed for this music video, they could see a reflection of themselves walking around the set. Hilton was obviously very humored by this. 🤣
sadly he passed away last year
Love Eric Burdon & The Animals. They were part of the British Invasion along with The Beatles, Rolling Stones & others. I grew up on their music in the 60's. People are always shocked that Eric has such a different unique deeper voice. The Animals had a lot of great hits such as "Baby Let Me Take You Home", "I'm Crying", "Boom Boom", "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood", "Bring It On Home to Me", "We Gotta Get Out of This Place", "It's My Life", "Don't Bring Me Down", "See See Rider", "Monterey", & "Sky Pilot". Eric later joined the funk rock band "War" & they had a few hits "Spill the Wine" & "Tobacco Road".
Yeah I was going to give a little history but you got it covered
Tobacco Road is a personal favorite of mine. Glad you mentioned it.
This is music from my early teen years. The Beatles, Rolling Sones, The Animals...a good time for rock n roll.
We had the best music!!
There will NEVER be another decade like the 1960s Pop Music was the best it has ever been i mean say the GOATs? they were putting out 2 or 3 45s a year and 2 albums a year and touring nonstop and i mean The Beatles when i say Goat of course! but the bands and music that came from a country u could fit into one of the US states changed everything! the style of music, the clothes, the hair and attitude there was nothing like this in America in 1964 The Beatles changed it all the way music was recorded and the style of British youth with the mods in London, Macca has said " when we got to the US and the kids were mostly still dressing like the 50s with flat top hair very short and here we were 4 guys in our mod suits and hair that no one in the US had"
I love this singer ❤️ Looks 16, sounds 60...like an older man with a lot of hard life experiences behind him
Voice like 25
He had a hard life growing up. So he lived a lot in that short time before recording this.
I've never heard anyone refer to this song as relaxing before. 😄 Loved watching you enjoy and appreciate the musicianship.
I think that is part of the dichotomy... they looked so young and innocent here, yet the song betrays such darkness and world-weariness.
Such a fucking classic! Great reaction! Eric Burdon is something else. The man is still killing it!
The organist/keyboards is Alan price....he was featured very heavily in Bob Dylan;s 1965 tour documentary “don’t look back”, a black and white film about the 1965 English tour....it’s so epic, an interesting dude, Alan
and now is 80
Fantastic group with some great songs. Eric also sings like there is no strain at all.
That organist is just amazing!!
It may sound crazy but this is one of the songs I want played at my funeral. But I want the live version that Waylon Jennings did. When I was a kid my dad gave me this on a 45 record. And it's always been one of my favorite songs. My dad passed away in January of '92 and I still listen to this every single day.
The singer is amazing , his name is Eric Burdon.. you have to check out his song with the band War- Spill The Wine Live ( Beat Club).
Yes, yes, yes!!! The song is absolute magic to experience.
@@LiveAlcheme Indeed! Lol.
I love watching people react to music of the 60's, 70's, and 80's. The soundtrack of my youth great music, great stories.
The music and organ is like the voice of a million souls crying out that lifts us to the heavens. Burdens haunting vocals then bring us crashing back to real life.
This was the first song I learned to play on my guitar. DON'T LET ME BE MISUNDERSTOOD, SKY PILOT, WE GOTTA GET OUT OF THIS PLACE, IT'S MY LIFE just to name a few. Wow...the music of my youth. Glad you like it.
Dont Let Me Be Misunderstood is my fav along with Send You Back To walker
Song written by an Appalachain artist, Clarence Ashley, and Gwen Foster, who recorded it.
This was the first rock song I remember hearing. Parents were Country music types. We were living in Germany in a basement apartment. The landlord's son played it over and over.
This was their biggest hit, and that organ solo WOW
Love this song!!!! Nothing else like it!
Watched entire video ❤❤❤
All the old music told a story
I was a baby when this one came out, but I love it, love that soulful New Orleans sound...His vocals are perfect for this song...Too groovy...Thanx for awesome reaction.
All the bands back then when they hit the big time they were all in there teens to early twenties. Robert Plant was twenty when the band hit number one in the country. Thank you and God bless you DA REAL DOG for all the memories.🙏🏼
Eric Burdon left the animals and did some solo work. Not long after he was front man for a band named War. They were a sensation to watch in a live concert. Go down the rabbit hole of Eric Burdon and War. Trust me, your ears are in for a treat.
Big hit for Eric Burdon & War is Spill The Wine 👍🏼👍🏼
Knew of War, but thank you for the recommendation ❣️🔥
There is a live version that is must watch. Eric is unlike any other front man.
One of my most favorite songs. First heard it in 1964 when I was 14
A song about a suicidal prostitute in New Orleans, prob from the 1800’s--the house of the rising sun was a brothel I believe.....The original lyric is “it’s been the ruin of many poor girls, and god, I know I’m a’ one”, when Bob Dylan did it 3 years before this one, he sang “girl” in the folk tradition of telling stories from other people’s point of view....the animals masculinized it, but it’s dope, and hits hard
Edit: also,in the last verse, Dylan sings “I’m gong down to end my life, in the house of the rising sun”, like in the original
The original song has been traced back hundreds of years to an old folklore told someplace in Europe...but they don't know which place told it first. It will probably always be a mystery of who told it first...and that one of the reasons I like it so much. Lol
Bob stole it from Dave Van Ronk word for word.
@@bartstarr100 He didn't really "steal" it from Van Ronk. In true folk music tradition, Bob heard the song from Van Ronk and simply added it to his repertoire. No different from the fact that Van Ronk heard it from someone else and added it to his repertoire. The song is so old, it's original writer unknown and its origins so obscure and lost in the murky mists of time that it has always been in the "public domain". No one owns any legal rights to it. Thus, it can't be "stolen" because no one "owns" it in the first place. But it is a humorous story as Van Ronk tells it. He says Dylan heard him singing it and Dylan asked Van Ronk if he (Dylan) could record it on his first album. Van Ronk pleaded with Dylan to not record it because he (Van Ronk) wanted to record it on his own upcoming album. But, as I recall the story, Dylan had already recorded it before asking Van Ronk for "permission" to do so. Then, after Dylan's version was released on his album, Van Ronk stopped playing his own version at the local coffee houses and other folk music venues because people were accusing him (Van Ronk) of ripping off Dylan's song.
it was earlier then Dylan they have traced this song to England back many many years
This is the first song my dad taught me on guitar when i was about 10 yrs old
This is one of my Fav song's and video clips of a tv performance it's so well shot and they look so cool.
I've loved this song since it first came out, I was seven years old. I am now sixty-six. Boy time sure does fly when you're having fun! Even through all of my struggles, music made my life fun and easier to deal with sometimes!
Over 40 Covers of this song, and used in over 20 movies, 20 TV shows.
Classic Song,
in the 60's they usually would "fake play and sing" for their videos and tv appearances, so that's why the guy looks so calm, its a voice over.
Alan Price playing that Vox organ ~ replacing what would normally be a guitar solo ~ is genius! What a great sound!!
it always amazes people how much volume and music the groups got out of those little Vox organs
THE ANIMALS, "HOUSE OF THE RISING SUN". This song is why I started following Rock music. At the age of 7. By time I was 11. I bought my first Album. You guessed it,
The album? The Animals Greatest HITS. MORE. "WE GOTTA GET OUT OF THIS PLACE" "DON'T LET ME BE MISUNDERSTOOD", "BRING IT ON HOME TO
ME".
"
The most iconic rock song ever recorded, IMHO.
I was 9 when this came out and I’ve always loved it.
Love this song!!!! Nothing else like it!

This song is a Legend. The song tells of hard times for a family in New Orleans. The best version ever recorded is by the British Rock Band "The Animals" in 1964. I was 14 years old in the U.S. and will never forget this song. Their recording reached #1 on the UK Singles Chart and in the United States and Canada for a number of weeks. It is still a great song today and won a Grammy. Most assume "The House of the Rising Sun" was a brothel, drug, and gambling house in New Orleans that has ruined many and sent some to prison "to wear that ball and chain." No definitive evidence has been found to support any theory on the detailed meaning of the folk song because it has both British and U.S. folk origins. However, reading the lyrics can lead you to believe that he was following in his gambling father's footsteps through the House of the Rising Sun, and his son is warning others not to visit there or go down that path to ruin.
You’re taking me back to my teens. Great song!
Good reaction to what I consider to be one of the best songs ever made.
They put out quite a few good songs. This is their best, but some of their other stuff is quite good, too. Their greatest hits album has, if I remember right, 20 songs on it and there really isn't a bad song on that album.
i was around 7 when this came out, but i had older teenage sisters , man they loved these guys
I was in the Army in 1964 and this song still chokes me up.
One of the best songs ever made.
Classic band & song, if only we could go back in time when life was simpler & the music was good 😊.
Some say this is about a brothel is also said to be about a women's prison in Louisiana. Love the song
The Animals changed one word in the song that changed its meaning. The original lyric was "It's been the ruin of many a poor GIRL." The house of the rising sun was a house of prostitution, and the song is a prostitute's lament.
This song was first recorded by Alan Lomax in the 1930s sung by a 14-yerar-old girl in Kentucky. It's a folk song, and many performers have recorded it, but the Animals' recording turned it into a massive hit.
This video is thought to be the best music video ever. The way Eric is walking around slowly, followed by the others is likened to an old southern-type funeral.
Loved them so much. Eric Burton went on to join the band War.
They had many hits!!!
This was one of my dad's favourite songs, so had if for his funeral song....half way through my sister turns round & says "it's about a brothel" we all just started laughing, we always knew last laugh had to come from last song....great balls of fire...as coffin went into flames, but he still got us kids with a surprise giggle...we picked the song!!!
I never expected them to look this clean cut....lol. I thought they would look more like rockers! Love this song..one of my favorites.
This single was the first song in like two years or something, to reach #1 on Billboard, by any band not named The Beatles.
I think their other big one was “baby let me follow you down”...something Like that, it has the same melody of a song with that name...and a similar title, and theme...I can’t remember exactly
Eric burdon vocal Chas Chandler bass Alan price keyboard Hilton valentine guitar John steel drums. Alan left the band in 1966. Chas died several years ago. Hilton died 1292021. Eric still performs.
Eric has an amazing voice!! Great reaction! Do Rob Zombie’s Dead city radio next please
I was five when this song came out. I wasn’t allowed to listen to rock-n-roll, but this one got through some cracks. I’ve always loved it. What a powerful voice Eric had.
I was bout 11 or 12
THANK YOU FOR YOU REACTION!👏👏👏 The Animals were waaaaay before my time, but the first time I heard House Of The Rising Son, I was mesmerised - the guitars, Alan Price’s un-believ-able organ playing, BUT where does Eric Burton get that amazing voice - just WOW! I will never tire of listening to this song💖 It can only be described as MASTERPIECE!
PS They're British & their guitarist 'discovered' Jimi Hendrix!
Hi Kitten! After reading your comment I feel SOO OLD! Lol!
And on organ, Mr. Alan Price. 'nuff said.
I never thought about this song being smooth and relaxing. I guess it is, but when I hear it I'm always moved to want to grab a microphone in one hand and a beer in the other and sing along. 👍😎
You look fabulous in glasses!
Good morning Adogg! Great reaction as always. I'm watching from work this morning. Much love from Eastern NC.
Every learning guitar player back then, played this over and over.
A little trivia: Creed Bratton was the lead guitarist and he played "Creed" in The Office.
Creed was actually part of the Grass Roots! Lead guitarist here is Hilton Valentine!
@@yacheberries843 oh gosh! I feel stupid! Memories are fading. Thanks for correcting that!
@@punsintendedok No worries, it's totally okay! Knowing Creed's character, I'm sure he's convinced himself that he's played with every band from that era. 🤣
@@yacheberries843 🤣😂🤣
Love The Animals!
It's certainly their most covered song
To me the singer and that organ are unforgettable. Love it.❤
Love this one. Here for It Adogg✌️🤘🧡🖐️👋🖐️
Ray Charles said this was one of his favorites.
This was 100% raw talent…this was my day tunes…it brought back great memories hearing it again. 😃
Oh man such a great group! My favorite song by them is Don't let me be misunderstood
If you like this, you should listen to "We Gotta Get Out of This Place", it was something of an anthem for the guys in VietNam.
This is my favorite song has been my ringtone to every phone I've owned!
The message in this song is so crazy! It's also in my favorite movie "Casino"
This is and has always been on my play list, just feels good when you hear it!!
Once upon a time, I could play this on the piano. My mom died back in '99, when I was 25. But when I was young and a teen, my mom loooooved me playing this on the piano. But it was HELLA SIMPLIFIED compared to the real music! And a beat slower. Hahah.
Hell of a song. Never gets old.
I love Eric but Alan Price on the organ always blew me away. Tried to imitate him on my grandma's tabletop organ as a kid. Goodness I was awful...lol.
Love your reaction to one of the greatest songs ever performed. This film/video was taken in one attempt. Not a piano, an organ. 😊
A big one for the Animals. Others have sung this song, but none sound and do it like the Animals!!
Loved this as a teen still love it at 72.
Eric Burdon was a great singer and The Animals were a badass band.. Eric Burdon also discovered the band War.. he did great things with them and they went on to their own greatness..
Some incredible music from the '60s! Also recommend checking out Dave Clark Five "I like it like that" and "Because" ... I know you will love them both and lead singer Mike Smith had one of the best voices ever!
Never get tired of this song. Brilliant. Heard it the first time in the 60's when my brother bought the EP.
The bass player discovered Jimi Hendrix! Introduced him to the Beatles.
“This looks like it’s gonna be pretty good”😂
This song is deep for many that came from a broken home/environment and made it
This song is from 1964 .. the same year both the Beatles and the Rolling Stones came to the U.S..
Sky Pilot is another good song by them.
OMG! His voice!😳
1964 no computers no gimmicks just good music
The tall guitarist also brought jimi Hendricks to UK
React to We got to get out of this place and inside looking out also react to Eric Burdon and War performing Spill the Wine Eric burden is lead singer for The Animals
Song is old and I mean really old. Music theorists have tracked the roots of this song back to 17th century Ireland. Hundreds of versions already existed, before The Animals recorded this song, but they probably delivered the most memorable version. I also really love Doc Watson´s version of it.
They were great some great tunes from them are
Bring it on home
Send you back to walker
Boom boom boom
I
Love
You
You are amazing, i love your reactions, i have been binging your vids for hours, i just can't stop... love your commentary, love your expressions and love your enthusiasm.. more please :D
That's was music in my generation love it
Awesome older song.
The Animals es excelente, gracias por tu reacción 👌💯
HEY! Even tho I've watched about 30 reactions to this video, it never struck me until now that there are no cords attached to the ELECTRIC guitars nor to the keyboard! Also, how did the drummer get up to the foreground at the end? He was in the back corner with the drummer until somebody rolled him to the front? Maybe that's why the guitarist was smiling during the refrain. Also, love that gum-chewing drummer being so cool under pressure.
Legends! ❤
I've got a tasty number for ya: A radio single for them but not commercially successful, is their version of 'CC Rider'.
Off cam...treat yourself to this one, and you'll be glad that you did. CORRECTION-- it is called See See Rider.
My deasased father loved this song and the vocals by Eric Burdon, i love it as well....plus Brian Johnson of AC/DC did a cover before he joined AC/DC with his former band Geordie, also The Animals are from the time of NO FUCKING AUTO-TUNE
