That's actually Bigfoot 7, it's very similar to Bigfoot 5.
I’ll never forget sitting on the porch swing they would hang under the front axle at the old Hazelwood location. It’s truly insane how big this truck is. And I’ve seen it catch air over cars!

I would love to see an in depth detailed technical review of Bigfoot 5. I'd especially like to see how the drive train and steering works. Also, I'd be interested in the the wheels themselves and seeing how much modification it took to mount them to the 5 ton hubs.
i know bob had to build 2 frames one sub frame under truck and tube frame for axle and shockes and 2 transfer cases ... the ratio is funny though 360:1
Really nothing complicated about it, I believe it just runs military 2 1/2 or 5 ton Rockwells with 4 wheel steer. That's what all the monster trucks ran back in the day.

There is a homemade flange welded to the wheel that adapts it to the hub. The hub is a planetary to be able to turn the 2300lb tires. The suspension is just leaf springs with 4 eight thousand pound rebound shocks. Saw it in person once and had to study it. What's going to be interesting is what happens when those tires fall apart, because those things are old.. like really old.

I somewhat remember where these tires came from, I heard the story a long time ago. They came from a old Russian crawler. Supposedly it had 20 to 30 of these tires on one long articulating vehicle that drove across the frozen lands of Russia. It took him 15 years of talking to the owner of the crawler to sell him the wheels and tires.
Sorry H&P Customs, the wheels and tires came from a junk yard in Seattle, WA. It was a land train, but not a Russian one. The US Army commissioned the vehicle to traverse the terrain in Alaska. Check here for pictures: bigfoot4x4.com/blog/bigfoot-5/

I’m pretty sure these are the tires from a original Letourneau land train from the early 50’s which has the old standard WW2 military style tread on it to. They got these tires from a salvage yard out in Alaska.
yeah, the tires came off of one of the two larger land trains, probably the Mk II, which was completely scrapped in Arizona, except for the control car, which is outside the Yuma Proving Ground Heritage Center.

Wow! Number 5 is still going strong! I wish they didn't get rid of fastrax though, that was my favourite bigfoot vehicle of all time, even though Bob bought it from someone else. At least he had the sense to rip out the Chevy engines and drop in two fords

With it just being a show truck I have to wonder, how many sets of those 10 ft firestones have they gone through on it?
Or are these the same wheels that I've touched back at the Ford 100 celebration in Dearborn in 2003.
I remember hearing Bob Chandler say once that they bought 2 sets of ten footers, enough to outfit 2 trucks (Bigfoot 5 & 7) I would presume then that these are the original tires the truck has always run with. They've been long out of production, more than 50 years now, so all that's left is what can be bought from scrap yards. Very rare indeed.

He said he mainly built the truck around those tires after finding them in Alaska. Knowing that it would most likely be a parade truck. Having said that I always wanted to ask him why he didn’t design it in a crew cab long bed configuration. IMO the length would’ve put more space between the tires and would give it an overall better appearance
Those tires were not found in Alaska. They were found in a wrecking yard in Seattle.
