The opening of this video cracked me up. Just watching the wheels in Thorin's head turning trying to figure out where the story was going and what the point would be. I think it's a rare occasion for Thorin to wonder I have no idea where this is going

dust2 went away for both majors in 2017 and came back and was in the mappool till rio 2022, no idea why styko was multiple times saying d2 got removed in 2017
Very confused by that as well. Thorin saying it was years ago the map was removed. It was removed late 2022, so we're talking 1½ years. which is indeed long in CS, but still.

The map pool when I first started playing / watching cs in 2016 is still the best:
Cache, Dust 2, Inferno, Mirage, Overpass, Train and Cobblestone

I would swap cobble for Nuke personally but yeah that was a good pool
Crossfire is the most popular FPS game in Asia including China. Crossfire has a map called Desert 2.0 which is just Dust 2. Valve brought back Dust 2 for the sole reason of increasing viewership for the upcoming Chinese major. And yes according to Valve's own metrics Overpass was the least played map in Premier. What's really sad though is that the Overpass/Dust 2 news has overtaken the lack of economy changes in relation to MR12. Economy changes and anticheat are what the playerbase actually want more than map pool swaps.

I’m a fan of sports because you get to watch the best of the best in their craft compete in both a physical/mechanical *and* mental/tactical battle. CS has always had room for both, and it always will, but removing Overpass as opposed to a one-dimensional and generally disliked map like Vertigo, or just a stale played-out map like Mirage is really disappointing to me. I only casually follow Esports, but it was my favorite map to watch.

A good map pool should have balance, as it'll allow teams of different playstyles equal playground. If it's all fast paced maps, then a team like VP might struggle, and while most don't like their playstyle, we want different playstyles to have equal chance.

The retake angle from thorin is great. Dust 2 will probably be the only map in the pool with mirage were actual retakes are possible.

This is a terrible reference lmfao.
"Iron" Tigran Petrosian wasn't known for making boring draws, he was known for being nearly impossible beat. There's not a great equivalent to CS because there's no "draws" in CS and each round is theoretically independent of the previous rounds, but the best I can think of is you could never convert a man advantage in CS. It's concrete and the team up 4v3 or 5v4 is clearly better but the round isn't done. What Tigran did in chess is equivalent to always pulling it back to 3v3 or 4v4. If you want to reach for a chessmaster known for boring draws you won't find a former world champion like Petrosian, but in the modern day Wesley So is the best equivalent. He has nearly an 80% drawrate last time I checked and loses fewer games than Magnus Carlsen because he never plays to win.

I made video on it recently and I think that -overpass because it has all those broken boosts like on CT spawn where you can kill T spawn like those olof boosts so they wanna change map pool so on major those things will not happened and why + dust2 because is only to fill a gap in map pool, they have only dust2 finished in CS for competetive playing so they will rework overpass probably bring back it and then +cache, -ver, +mirage remake, -mirage etc.etc.

Dust 2 is absolutely the god damn powered eggs. RIP my first true love, overpass.
I also think this will help VP a lot. In my opinion Dust 2 has historically been Electronic's first or second best map in nuke. So many high water marks on those two alone. Jame is not going to have trouble guiding this team on the map.

Randomized spawns back with Dust 2 coming back. Really feel like it has to be for the shang major, hopefully one and done. The map was SOLVED in go, there’s only two others that I could argue were fully unlocked (inferno and vertigo), the unblocked skyboxes will add some new plays and variance but wholistically the map is the same. It’s going to be grueling with spawn CT Longdoor smokes, real team play and optimizing their nades on the map is going to make this map THEEE RANDOMizer map. The MR13 aspect will intensify the feeling, when the 3v3 mid round is a coin flip fight for mid again…. It’s just solved, relying on winning that coin flip with speed/conviction when it doesn’t happen. Save-meta is just the percentage best optimal game plan and d2 will just become a dreadddful map instead of being the FLASHY frag heavy aim-centric map Valve thinks is coming back. Hate there’s no reasoning added, its gaslighting to rip ovp away (one half of the NEW Upgraded Counter-Strike 2 maps by the way) big buff to Outsiders/VP tho let’s goooo I guess

11:30 - in one of valve's statements didn't they say something about wanting the casual fans to be able to "play the same game" as the pros? I think they cited it as one of the reasons for the change to MR12? This argument makes sense - that they would want to bring the most universally recognized map back in for similar community reasons.
