Frankel's greatest performance? Juddmonte International memories

- The Sir Henry Cecil-trained Frankel had won all 12 of his career starts before he stepped up to 10 furlongs for the first time in the 2012 renewal of the Juddmonte International.
Already an eight-time Group One winner by this point, the son of Galileo was sent off the 1/10 favourite for the nine-runner event, which featured multiple Group One winner St Nicholas Abbey and subsequent dual Group One hero Farhh, along with defending champion and Frankel's stable companion Twice Over.
What followed was simply poetry on a racecourse. Under regular pilot Tom Queally, the pair breezed into the lead at the two-furlong pole, producing a dazzling turn of foot to put the race to bed in a matter of strides. The winning margin was seven lengths.
In this documentary, we hear from Lord Grimthorpe, former racing manager to the late Prince Khalid Abdullah, Sir Henry Cecil's great friend William Haggas and York Racecourse's Chief Executive William Derby

This horse is an absolute legend, he will always be a favourite for so many people! ❤
For the occasional racing fan yes.
For hardcore racing fan like myself this horse doesn’t get in a top 5!
@@Martin.Lewis.. alright Martin give it a rest, I’m sure you’d be saying different if it was an O’Brien nag 🤣 frankel will go down in history, every run of his was stellar. Dissing him doesn’t make you special or make you more of a fan of racing…
Best eever. SSeen
@@JohnJones-hw9yv listen Bones he is definitely not the best ever!
@@Martin.Lewis.. right Martin I’ve already told you to leave off, go pester someone else. Just because you don’t think frankel isn’t the best doesn’t mean you can harp on about it to us, it doesn’t make you look like a more experienced fan it just makes you look a bit like a twat shoving it in everyone’s faces like this 🤣
Glad I got to see frankel , best horse I’ve seen , great trainer was Henry Cecil 🙏🏻👑
Que hermosa escultura hicieron en honor del gran caballo ganador, !!Franquel!!
Hermosas memorias de él corriendo y ganando en las carreras.
Saludos a la gente bonita de allá! 🇬🇧
Desde México! 🇲🇽
The fact that arguably his 2 best performances were this and the 2000 guineas show how extraordinary he was. Absolutely blasting off over a mile vs completely switching off and mowing them all down over 10f. Didn't matter, destroyed them all the same...
I suspect this is the distance he would have excelled at if given more opportunities
Even more so than at a mile.
In the Champion he missed the start and the heavy ground made it hard work
At 10f on good ground he would have shown his absolute brilliance over and over again
His 11 length Queen Anne win was the greatest performance ever…..
He got 10-1/2F here in the Juddmonte International Stakes without breaking a sweat, scarcely ever off the bridal that day on the Knavesmire. He was just as impressive over the 10F in the Champion Stakes at Ascot on very soft ground where the track had a lot of rain in the lead up to the race. On that day Frankel defeated arguably as good of a soft ground horse as there was in Europe at the time in Cirrus Des Aigles, and did it easily despite having dwelt and was last leaving the starting gate. Perhaps he might've been more vulnerable to defeat at 12F had he ever been afforded the chance to contest the trip than he ever was racing at a mile, 10F, or 10-1/2F, but given the ease he saw out the distances at York in the Juddmonte International Stakes and at Ascot in the Champion Stakes, there's no way you can convince me Frankel wouldn't have gotten 12F. Hell, who knows, his constitution might've been such that you could've thrown him into the Ascot Gold Cup field over 2-1/2 miles and him won it pulling away in a cantor.
This was not an ordinary field - St Nicks Abbey and Farhh were both horses rated in the mid to late 120's. This, in my opinion, is as good as any performance in the history of the sport - to travel up on the bridle like that against that sort of opposition is stunning and ran all the way through the line. The best ever, of that, I have no doubt and we can only hope to see one as good as him again in our lifetime.
Come on pal - Farhh was a yak!!
@@Martin.Lewis.. haha are you sure? SNA a yak too I guess?
@@craigtrott7193 very sure pal yes!
St Nics only faced Frankel once so not sure what angle you are attempting there?..
Frankel throughout his career beat very very little.

@@Martin.Lewis.. Suppose Cirrus Des Agles is a yak too? How about Nathaniel on debut? Or an 11 length trouncing of Excelebration in the Queen Anne
@@craigtrott7193wasting your time with this guy. It wasn’t trained by AOB so he will try and put him down .
Imagine a movie on sir Henry

Surely was, since Frankel was racing at a longer distance for the first time, effectively without his pacemaker, with a slow start, and against a bunch of stronger foes, but still won.
😓😓😓😓
Would of win the arc and derby..easilyyyyy
So why didn't he?
Getting abit repetitive now with Frankel on here!!

Any injuries?
@@madtingsadting Kauto was made of the toughest stuff going. Trained by a genius. Bounced back twice from injuries Hendo would of zero clue how to get one back from..
@@Martin.Lewis..sprinter sacre? The greatest comeback of all time. FACT.
@@madtingsadtingthe greatest comeback of all time .Lewis never got over that moment when Sprinter breezed past Un de Sceaux when winning the champion chase. What a performance that was.
@@madtingsadtinghow that guy has the cheek to keep posting crap is unbelievable after posting a comment claiming that Aidan had said Auguste Rodin has sustained a leg injury in the King George. A blatant untruth as Aidan had never said any such thing.
A lot media hysteria around Frankel during his career, the Cecil interviews after each run, seeing how ill he was etc and One could say that same hysteria clouded a lot of people’s judgement as to who Frankel was actually beating on the course.
For me his Guineas win was by far his best performance and don’t get me wrong that was sensational but there after… were his wins that impressive? Not really no..

Queen Anne by 11 lenths
@@garydixon4290 beating trees.
Says the fool who thinks AR was injured because he ran badly.
What a tool, just glad the official ratings drawn up by people who actually have real horse racing knowledge have him as their best ever. Only for Henry wrapping him up he would have shown even more and proved that he could win a group 1 over 12f.
@@garydixon4290 Only just squeezed home in the St James' Palace against Zoffany who would have beaten him in a few more yards. Zoffany was the best he faced.
