This subclass feels like fan service. "Oh, you like throw-barians and pushing enemies off ledges? Here's a class that's awesome at throwing things and kicks enemies really far (off ledges)!"
Im so happy it's just what I wanted
Saw the UA-camr Morgana Evelyn use Balduran's Giantslayer as her weapon of choice. Apparently, when using the Elemental thingy-muh-jig, the Greatsword has the Thrown property!
That's amazing for more damage.
Yeah it says that in the description and that's how it works in DnD 5e - your weapon "gains the Thrown property". I played a Giant Barbarian in tabletop with a greataxe and it was like playing Thor 😂
So keep in mind, the ability to pick up things and throw them IS largely gated behind carry capacity, that 1/4th increase is useful for holding heavier objects as well as carrying around bigger things ot throw like barrels full of stuff on your person.
Had the same thought
See that's something I usually don't do, thank you for pointing this out!
What does this mean? Isn't grabbing an enemy and then throwing them is only affected by STR?
In other words, do I have higher % success chance of grab/throw if I have a higher carry capacity?
i did some math in the background, and a giant barb throwing a greatsword and kicking with her bonus action actually outdamages a berserker who throws a pike and throws again with her bonus action... And then there is the yeeting effect of the kick and the synergy with the elemental damage... this is disgustingly strong.
(also it might make berserker obsolete lol)
oh and if the swarmkeeper gets "not the bees" the giant barb gets "this... is... SPARTA!!"
Balduran's Giantslayer paired with this.. it's like throwing a nuke.
@ theres something very funny about a path of the giant barb murdering everything with the giant slayer- i love that!
@@wayfaringnomad also the gd deva mace :D
I don't have stress test access after signing up so your previews are much appreciated. I am so happy to see how well your videos on these new subclasses are doing. hope your channel keeps growing! congrats man
Thank you! I'm very grateful and surprised at how well they're doing.
At first glance it seems that Berserker Thrower still is better since Enraged Throw is a bonus action (and you can get levels in Thief for an extra bonus action). It looks really fun, though!
I agree. This is just another option for the thrower builds.
In tabletop I think there's some wording where you have to use barbarians rage to become large before you can cast enlarge to become huge. I think Larian implemented some similar mechanics with enlarge and elixir of colossus and Baldurans giant slayer
6 barb, 2 fighter, 4 rogue seems like an epic build here
Just punt everything lol
Ring of Flinging is going to go hard on this one
Hits the ground running and never looks back.
The carry capacity bump isn't useless at all , keep in mind this lets you hold barrels and other heavy things and if high enough does crushing damage
Not useless, just in my many many playthroughs (0 mods), I've never had an issue with carrying things on my STR characters.
Awesome video! Congrats on 2K suds!!!
Thank you! That happened quick.
you have to take into account that the elemental cleaver buff disappears after the weapon returns to you, so you have to keep reapplying it, hopefully they'll fix that in the full release
I didn't even notice that, good catch!
With 6 Levels of Giant Barb/6 Levels of Open Hand Monk(Wholeness of Body for extra Bonus Action) you get Tai Kwan Leap: Way of the Intercepting Boot
good shit, this had me chuckle lol
@@wayfaringnomad It would definitely be a meme build lol
Definitely using this with the Trident!
Baldy greatsword is also a fun one. Essentially throwing a nuke.
Giant Barbarian throws corpses at enemies and Grave Cleric the explodes the corpses
I know what I'll be trying later today lol
I wonder how this will work with, say, Gauntlets of Hill Giant Strength + Elixir of the Colossus + haste battery. +6 to strength checks from the gloves, elixir gives advantage on strength checks & theoretically increases your size and might actually work with the Giant's rage to essentially quadruple in size like how you wanted with Duergar's enlarge. With savage attack, you'd possibly be rolling 4 times for damage and the highest possibility, and haste will give you the four attacks per round, all while being a literal Giant. At least for a while.
Is there such a thing as too much damage? I think naught.
@wayfaringnomad especially for Barbs, Throwers, and Barb Throwers
Giant Barbarian might not be the strongest subclass, but it’s certainly my favorite for fun and flavor.
Kinda gives me BIS or Dream Team Vibes.
It's simple and really effective. I love it.
I think the reason the barbarian didn't grow even larger in that first fight is because you used the enlarge spell first.
The Giants might ability lets you grow to a size large as long as you are smaller than size large.
When you used the enlarge spell, you grew to size large and so the Giants might size increase would not work.
It comes down to stack ID, which is how effects are grouped in the game. The only size effect with a different stack ID is elixer of the colossus, so it may stack with that
I was a little underwhelmed when I first saw this class on the wiki page. I thought it would be more about throwing enemies and I would get a buff early on to throw medium sized enemies instead of just playing with a giant potion. kinda feels like a throwing barb that has a nice kick now.
You're basically right, and that's not a bad thing.
very exited for giant barb. really wanting to try out all the weapons not typically meant for throwing. hope most end up applying their effects as thrown.
little bugs. giants rage dmg for thrown should be 6. melee rage damage is 3 giant barb should be doubling it for thrown. seems like it didn't update when your rage dmgs increased at later lvls.
It seems so simple but there's a lot going on before we even apply gear.
Ya know. I wish those Steel Watcher weapons are throw-able, cuz if they're basically to be picked up, why not deal full weapon damage against our enemies.... for catharsis
I feel like Karlach would have no problem wielding those.
I must admit that i was quit sad for the ranger because the magic archer for fighter looked like the perfect feet for him but now that you show me its potential for a meler ranger that change all my mind, thanks! (and loot of fun possible with giant nice)
I would LOVE to PUNT Orin into the abyss
I think if they had made the swarmkeeper to revolve around Crows, Hornets, and Rats, it would have a bit more of an RP concept that works for urban rangers.
but.. what about bats!
Works with tempest cleric 6 as well to always have a push effect 😅
Missed opportunity for not using dwarven thrower to combo with ur race and ring of flinging to make a goated combo
Is there such a thing as too much damage?
I expected ALL weapon damage turned into elemental so I could gget scorching death animations from fire weapon, without it giant's cleave is inferior to tiger's cleave
What if you picked up Baldurans Giantslayer as your weapon instead of the trident? Trident does have the AOE, but Baldurans Giantslayer also have a Giant Form spell giving extra damage and temp hp and you deal double str damage with it too.
Is there such a thing as too much damage? No.
@wayfaringnomad Of course, so tell Helsik no, you will not give her the gloves from House of Hope.
Ranger is more for "on the range" rather than "a ranged character". At least that's the first thing that comes to mind.
Edit: Indeed, "to range" means "to move over or through (a large area), roam with the purpose of searching or hunting"
I remember reading that the "Ranger" was based on Aragorn from Lord of the Rings and he uses mostly a sword.
Like park ranger or power ranger lol. But it's easy to think Ranger so range weapons.
Looks like this will cooperating with monk because you deal 1 damage with the kick cause it’s unarmed strike! So a monk would give you 1d4 to 1d8 and probably the lvl6 manifestation open hand powers also scale with it + the unarmed items like that boots! 🤓
So probably with 6 monk open hand can cause a 1d6+1d4necro+2xwisdom modifier so you do the same with the monk bonus action attack but you also shove them and probably really will work with booming blade 😂 so you infuse with elemental cleaver and deal extra damage when you shove them to move forcefully!
this subclass packs quite a kick 😂
This is an example of a good fun subclass that just works.
I wish i could use the elemental weapon feature of this class without raging.
Would make for a fun multiclass
I wish the swarm keeper would let you swap swarms without a level up.
Exactly.
looks like a bunch of fun! My karlach !
sweet sweet Karlach.. going to be kicking and throwing all the evil goblin children.
@@wayfaringnomad YES!
Kills any human, goblin, or humanoid: 😈
Kicks one doge: 😢
I don't feel good about it.
one throw added +12 rage dmg because of the dmg dmg is procced in this game :P I wanted to run a throw barb but the throw trajectory is fking annoying and sometimes the weapon doesnt come back and its super glitchy with the hot bar also.
Yeah I'm pretty sure my line in the gameplay was spot on and it just decided "nope" lol.
Can you use the lvl 10 bonus Action to throw a weapon?
in the swarmkeeper vid the pushback was blocked by a tree the first time and cart handle the second time
Dammit I should have shown the lvl 11 effect. Because no, it doesn't do the push.
I've now quadruple checked it, the upgraded bees do not push and prone, they just apply prone.
@@wayfaringnomad It's been an issue with prone and knockback both applying on the same target. Whichever was applied last will be the only one to have priority.
For example, if you shove a prone target, they stand up immediately.
Glad I'm not crazy.
Drink a colossus potion then giant rage makes you even bigger
Bigger is better!
Is a giant dwarf the same size as the giant size of a human or elf?
Cant wait to play as Shizuo Heiwajima lmao
13:24 why do you have disadvantege on that throw?
Thanks for testing Duergar! too bad it doesnt stack, sadge
No problem, I'm assuming it also won't work with the baldurian greatsword but I could be wrong.
@@wayfaringnomad they use the same status ID according to wiki so ill assume it doesn't work either
I still dont know how to read in game specific spell or action DC
Lol, yeah, in the log some dc's are broken down. But actually on the spell tool tips it'll tell you your dc if you hover over the text.
@wayfaringnomad *stares at Sacred Flame
Since i use the no party limit mod, and playing on Tactician(which enemies apparently have higher saving throws and smarter AI, apparently) the Tactician enhanced mod and just using basic, no echantment gears should be challenge for not hardcore gamer like mee
couldn't you have a mage with enlarge to cast it on you or a potion for it before becoming enraged?
Yep, not sure it would make your character any larger.
I dont really enjoy staying at the Elfsong inn much cuz its.... like UNNECESSARILY DARK
like sheessh dim chandeliers much
Its dark as its the start of a... dark alliance. I am here all week
What book is this in for 5E?
I am not sure, I'm a baby at dnd.
Bigby presents: glory of giants for the path of giant subclass
Oh ... i see the game still does that annoying s**t, when you throw your weapon, it removes all its actions from your hotbar an them throw it all back randomly. -_-
I dont get it ...
Why cant we just have grayed out buttons, or something ... its not like we wouldnt hold that weapon litterally half second after we throw it. -_-
