- I've had some really good cans of beef before, as well as some proper gnarly ones, so let's see what this effort from Princes is like...

As a pensioner, I find it so difficult to come to terms with todays prices. No matter how much I tell myself that I need to be more realistic, I am still living in the late 90s, much like my state pension. I'll admit that it has increased significantly, but nowhere near as significantly as inflation.
Your state pension comment made me chuckle John. Unfortunately prices will continue to rise and somehow we'll have to keep up.
Great in a homemade meat n tatie pie. Old fashioned enamel pie dish then add your homemade lardy shortcut pastry then sliced potatoes, onions salt and pepper on top then your tin of stewing steak a Oxo crumbled over the top then rest of your pastry on top cut a cris cross on top and cook at 180 c for around and hour and 10 mins.
Ah yes Graeme, the enamel pie dish, I still have one. Your recipe sounds magnificent so I'll be putting one together over Autumn...
Havent bought this in years.. was ok back then. £3.35 a can 😮 congrats on the 6k subs 🎉
Many thanks Simon, and thank you for your regular input :) Edit: First time I read your comment, the name was Sarah
I had to buy some in an emergency " Forgotten I'd invited my Mum over for Dinner scenario." Still feeling the pocket hurt. She approved of my steak pie effort.
I can see this being really good as a steak pie Trevor, nice one.
Congratulations on 6000 subs! Watching you get the meat out of the can reminded me of my dog food days. Not for me you understand!
Thank you Nigel, it actually did have a slight dog food aroma but that went away after heating, thankfully!
At over £1 dearer than Sainsbury's own brand, I know which one I would go for.
Just had a look and I see what you mean Peter, their website shows £2.55 and 75% beef.
You deserve more subscribers Pappy anyway congrats you are very good at food review 😊
Many thanks Wayne :)
I like this product. Emptying the lot onto some mashed potatoes and I’m a happier than I would be with many of the £4 ready meals that seem to be popping up these days.
When you put it like that it's most certainly worth the spend.
yes mate, this on a jacket potato is a well decent meal.
Would be good as a pie filling with a puff pastry lid or a kind of cottage pie affair with some creamy cheesy mash up top?
Indeed all of the above mate, including both lids at the same time :)
Princes brand foods are good and the price reflects that and i would be inclined to make a pie with one of those cans.
Now you're talking Uncle, I haven't had a pie in a while..
I made a steak and stilton pie this evening, with onion and mushroom and Guinness in the pie gravy. I wouldn't dream of using canned beef though, as I was trying to make a decent pie. Just buy decent beef instead, or chuck-steak and it will still cost less than this can of beef, per portion. You just need to cook it for longer, but if you're in a rush, just buy a premade pie instead of using this canned rubbish. It all smells like cat food when you open canned meat, even fois gras or decent pate.
Marks and Spencer used to due a great tin of steak but thats many years ago now❤
Handily, they still had this for me to try... :)

Good Morning Papparoni, another very interesting review here of a Princes product and it is good to see that this is fit to eat as many of their products are quite poor - It is a lot of coin for what it is and the prices are climbing by the week in the Supermarkets - have a great Monday Mate :-)
Cheers mate, I'll spend an extra quid and stick with M&S :)
Expensive but there was a lot of meat. And you seemed to enjoy the taste. I'd enjoy a tin with cheesy mash, marrowfat peas, and some crunched up popadom on top for texture. Oh, and chilli sauce on top of that :-D
Cheesy mash is great stuff, we like to add Boursin to regular mash, and I will try the popadom topper, cheers Chaat Man :)
That would be okay heated up with some curry paste and a few chips beef madras on the cheap. I have today tried the new out Heinz Spaghetti Carbonara in a tin it's seems only Sainsburys have it at the moment my lips are sealed though as to what I think of it and I would love to see your review on it as would your subscribers I'm sure.
Like the cheap madras suggestion Ladd, and thanks for the heads up regarding the Heinz Carbonara, that is something I'd like to review for sure...
Hi Papp.
Would this have been good enough for Prince and @ £19.99 you'd get 5.96 cans of this, £20.10 even 6.
Yes the price is up there with the M&S product, but for a splash out or for the Apocalarder it could be a good investment.
I could see this on 2 slices of toasted sourdough slathered with butter. A bit loose as a filling unless you gelatinized it with rice flour. Which ever way it's served I'm sure it'd be worth the coin.
Nice review mate. Cheers 👍🤤😀
Nice one John. I doubt Prince would've gone near anything like this, he seemed to look after himself! Like the £19.99 for 5.96 cans. As for Apocalarder - :D
Congrats on 6k 👏🏻
Many thanks Sid :)
ive had this its actually ok, i still buy the m&s steak tins and mince tins , they are the best for sure but they are more expensive, get what you pay for i suppose, nice review sir
Cheers adz. You said it all, these are perfectly fine but the M&S ones are best.
Just checked and Morrisons want £3.59 for this!
They can carry on wanting!
I get a couple of tins of that, add kidney beans then put in a casserole dish, add mash on top then stick in the oven ! 😋
An interesting way to have it Mike, nice one :)
Yeah from what you've reviewed the Princes products tend to be pretty hit and miss Pap and I could've sworn you had reviewed this one before, probably due to the amount on stewed steaks and Princes you have already reviewed but nope! I once found a very old Princes can of meat, had a best before date of 1999! (Sorry couldn't resist thought that joke up even before you played the song on the piano!)
Hahaa, nice one Mr Atkinson. This thing had been in my cupboard for yonks as I thought I'd already reviewed it too!
Have you tried Tesco Stockwell own brand stewing steak, only £2.05. It is not bad at all 👍😁😎
I haven't Lee so thanks for the heads up :)
Looks half decent and I would surely enjoy this with mashed spuds, vegetables and a Yorkshire pudding or two.l am sure one of the lumps of meat around the 57 second mark resembled Clarence, the crosseyed lion in Daktari😮. Interesting review and nice tune 👍.
Decent bit of pareidolia right there Steve :)
@@Papparoni That's a new word for me 👍.l have just looked it up whilst feeding on gooseberry yoghurt and shredded wheat and yes,l agree.
Great review papparoni 😊 looks nice 😊
Cheers Siobhan, surprised me did this one :)
I literally shuddered and shook my head no when I saw that dog's vomit....
Dog vomit is a new one, some have said dog food but not dog vomit!
@@Papparoni I'm old school with my compliments and inventive :)
The best way ;)
Good afternoon , my question , is it significantly better than the asda essential one ?
I wouldn't say significantly Chris. I gave the Asda one 5/10, this one 7/10, but obviously the Asda one is cheaper.
@@Papparoni ty for replying , i was worried about the " grollies " as my dad used to call them lol . but looking back at your asda review , i'm re-assured
Good to hear :)
I must admit Papp... That the Princes Stewed Steak looked pretty good to me my friend... Although i don't really have much trust left in some of the bigger tinned brand names anymore my friend... As we've seen the likes of... Ye Old Oak... Fray Bentos... Dewhurst... And sadly for me personally... Heinz... Producing some mediocre products these days... I no longer buy some of the Heinz products anymore... But the big brand names i still have confidence in right now... Are the following... John West... Princes... Branston... Ambrosia... Del Monte... Pek... Stagg... Batchelors... As i think that on the whole... These big brand names... Still produce mostly high quality products to the consumer these days... And unfortunately there are some big brand names that i used to always buy... Who have burned their bridges with their loyal customers... Including myself... And then they attempt to apologise to their loyal customers... For their underhanded penny pinching schemes... Which detrimentally altered the quality of their products.
And they did so in a blatant and brazen fashion... Only when their sales figures hit rock bottom... Do they decide to improve their products to the previous standards... But winning customers back... Is much harder than keeping your customers happy in the first place... Quality standards dropping... While at the same time prices are increasing... Is a sure fire way to alienate their loyal customers... And sadly we sometimes see long standing businesses going out of business... Simply because of their greed for even more profits... Personally i have no sympathy for any company that chooses profits over their customers loyalty... Destroying a companies good name and standing... Is so easy to do for greedy company executives... Who only wish to drive up their overall profits... By short changing their customers... Anyway pal... Rant over... 😂 Many thanks for the review Papp... It's very much appreciated my friend... All the very best... Cheers mate. 🍺
Superb stuff Rick, I'll be printing this comment out and taking it to any company that will sit and listen! :D
@@Papparoni 😂👌👍
Chappie.
It actually had that aroma before heating Mark. Thankfully it went away when hot!
Oh and you ask 'is it worth it '?l think Harry would have said 'YES'😊😅
These arent bad when they're in the multi buy offer.
I quite agree Frankie.
Not a patch on the Tesco stuff and more expensive.
Just looked it up Andrew. £2.50 and 75% beef, worth a go, thank you...
Mum has this regularly 👍
Don't blame her, be great with mash :)
@@Papparoni she sometimes has them with tinned taties 👍
Oh yes, those things are nice too, growing up, we'd have them with a bit of butter on top, delicious :)
@@Papparoni yes I think she'd like that, together with some beans 👍
Get her involved :)
Watched a fair few of your videos, what is this gnarl of which you speak?
Thank you for tuning in my friend. Gnarl is my word for tubes, gristle and nasty bits.
Seems expensive 🤔... think I'd pay just that little extra for M&S
Me too chap :)
Do you please think you could have a word with Siobhan for me? I have been banned from her channel and I don't know why. I even first recommended her channel to you.
I can ask for you Timmy, whether I get a reply is out of my hands..
@@Papparoni thanks so much
I wouldn't pay that price for anything in a tin
Fair comment Hyperdrive
Papparoni! Review macaroni! 😂
Hmmmm only 2 true reasonably sized chunks of meat in there. Looks abit too stewed for my taste. It should actually say beef stew or soup on the tin.
I see what you mean Edward, some carrots and peas and it could be classed as a stew.
Not worth it. Not like used to be . Tinned steak was excellent mostly in the 80s etc, now dog meat I've noticed
I have to admit that it did have a slight dog food smell about it when it was cold but warmed up into something far better. As for the 80s, I found most tinned food was better than now, even the tinned ravioli was good.
A video about a tin of meat🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Someone has to do it! :D
This channel just literally turned up on my feed so I'm not sure what is happening here other than figuring out that you've been robbed...Over £3 for a can of something that resembles pet food.....
you'd be better off buying the ingredients separately and making it yourself (plus extra for the freezer) at least you'll also know all of the ingredients contained in your meal.
I agree entirely regarding cooking your own food Eddie. I try many products on my channel, also a bit of cooking as well as some out and about food, hope you stick around..
As we have mentioned in the past papps these sort of things are very convenient to have in your cupboard. Just watched your 3 tin stew again after this to compare the price difference and your stew came out at £2:42 food and energy prices are now getting ridiculous unless your a liebour MP with freebies .Also rewatched your review of Hertford Foods stewed steak that Graham reviewed and you had a bad batch, I bought 2 tins after his review and fortunately both tins were fine though I did have a close examination of the second tin after your review. Did you ever go back to B&M and try another tin 🤔?? 👍👍🥩🥫
I have left the Hertford steak alone since my experience mate. Funnily enough I was just talking to someone about my three tin stew. As for liebour, I did try and tell as many people as possible to simply not vote, for any of them!
