    DB is so nice about it but I can tell the canned Okonomiyaki wasn’t that great. I'd love to see you visit a proper Hiroshima style Okonomiyaki booth, those are amazing and definitely on my bucket list. There’s no place like that here and I had to try to recreate it myself.

      I had Okonomiyaki in Hiroshima many years ago and liked it very much. I have made it myself and do so quite regularly - a bit of a simplified version, and with coleslaw mix as well as cabbage. I was happy to find the sauce at my local Asian food store.

    • @000maela000
      @000maela000 Рік тому +7

      Okonomiyaki are super easy to make and super tasty too. You can take short cuts like using a good processor to turn the cabbage and carrots into a meal then mix it with the flour, eggs, etc or you can put more effort in to hand chop the veggies and preserve the texture. My local Asian market sells furikake rice seasoning with bonito flakes, so I usually take that as a shortcut as well. Since the sauce is easy to make with ketchup, oyster sauce, soy sauce, and sugar, I usually make that from scratch.
      My point is, properly okonomiyaki is delicious and those canned ones do not do it justice. -.-

    They are years ahead of us. I would LOVE some of this stuff for my emergency canned foods stash. Their convenience stores are also chock full of things I would love to eat for cheap. And most of it made that day and with real food instead of a bunch of additives!

    • @artalcoolique3341

      It couldn't be made w/o additives. It's canned..

    • @kettch777
      @kettch777 Рік тому

      @@artalcoolique3341 Canned food can absolutely be made without additives. Canned means it's cooked into the can, but people make homemade canned goods all the time (usually made with jars at home.) You submerge the jar into boiling water and cook the ingredients inside and the heat seals the lid to the can and keeps the air out. But I was referring to their convenience store food when I said "made without additives". Like deli food in the United States, they have fresh cooked food in the cold case in the convenience stores---a lot more options than we have here.

    It would be interesting to know how much processed foods is consumed in different Asian countries. America has a lot of processed foods but there’s also a strong movement to implement more farm to table. With the American economy crashing and grocery prices soaring, a lot of people are starting to utilize growing their own food and supporting local farms.

    That dashimaki tamago looks like it'd go well with some packaged ready rice from the Lawson or FamilyMart up the road.
