Good to hear you aren't going anywhere. You're were the first pen turning videos I found and got me into woodworking about 6 years ago. Thanks again and all the best in 2024!
Thank you.
I’m always happy to hear when my videos help other turners.
Regards,
Bob
Hi Bob glad to see you back congratulations on your 25th anniversary 🎉🎉
Thank you Kevin.
Regards,
Bob
I have been watching a lot of your videos library as I got into pen turning. I live in Texas but grew up in the Midwest. I knew you were based in the Midwest, but just made the connection that you’re from the Evansville area when I saw the Castle hat, I grew up in the Castle district, what a small world.
It sure is a small world. When did you leave the area?
@@RJBWoodTurner I left about 19 years ago. But I get back about every 2-3 years for a visit.
I like the idea of half lap and doweling the swing frame pieces for future builds, I think it will be stronger and will look better too.
One thought on moving the books down is make sure to think about some protection for them so that if you are using the metal lathe and some cutting fluid, it can't throw that up onto the books, that would be a shame.
Take care and I hope to see another video soon.
Thank you Dave,
That is an excellent point about the books. The metal lathe can be a bit messy.
Anything has to be better than biscuits. LOL.
Regards,
Bob
Nice you’re back. Make videos at your pace. I’ll still watch them. I make a set of kitchen items for wedding gifts a cheese cutter, charcuterie board and cutting board personalized with a laser engraving.
Thank you George,
I will still be around. 😀
Regards,
Bob
hi mate. Thank you for the update. Good seeing you again. Regards
Hello Tommie,
It’s always nice to hear from you. I hope the holidays and the New Year were good to you and your family.
Regards,
Bob
Hi Bob, thank you for letting us know. I recently found your channel and enjoy your content. As a new pen turner, I hope you will be available to answer questions from time to time because you do a great job making pens and are thorough in your video details. Much appreciated! I'll look forward to new ones as they come out, but completely understand stepping back.
Thank you Steve,
I do my best to answer all questions so if you have them, please send them my way.
Regards,
Bob
I turned about 70 pens last year for Christmas gifts for family and friends. One question that I have is about Denatured Alcohol which I've never used. Is there a specific brand, strength, etc to use?
Thanks so much, Steve
Hi Bob. Have been watching and enjoying your videos for years. Just a note please don’t use your vacuum as a fume exhaust. That’s a huge fire hazard as the motor is not isolated from the fumes. Stay safe!
Thank you Brian.
Regards,
Bob
I hope everything gets better for you soon.
Life in general is great, I’m bust not sure how to grow on YT anymore.
Regards,
Bob
Hi Bob - Thanks for the update. I hear you big time about the investment in time and all of the effort that goes into producing a video - along with all of the other stuff you have going on. I loved the metal detector info on your other channel. Some of us "old timers" are content with videos just like this one, so we will see you the next time. - Dave
Thank you David,
There will be more MD content on the other channel as weather permits. It’s kind of cold and rainy right now.
I will have videos on here, just need to decide what the’ll be about. 😀
Regards,
Bob
This is Tom and Pam we met you in West Virginia love watching your videos would love to watch any of your videos that you put out. Your videos do not have to even be about pens we hope you have a great New Year! Please keep us updated. PS if you're son-in law doesn't want your planer we do. Lol
I remember you both, it was great meeting you. Making new friends is one of the best parts of going to the shows.
I will still be around, just gonna change it up and slow it down.
Thank you for watching.
Regards,
Bob
Thanks for sharing your recent doings, Bob. I was wondering what was going on. I wish you all the best and look forward to whatever content you bring us. Blessings, Glen
Thank you Glen,
I’ll still be around, just want to put my time where I get the most benefit. Looks like the mix is a little more projects and a little less videos. 😀
Regards,
Bob
Been watching a long time. Glad all is well.
Thank you,
I am well, I appreciate your viewership.
Regards,
Bob
hi bob. great to see an update from you. its a shame views are down. it seems to be effecting every small content creator . pen turning is very neiche and very samey if you know what i mean. once you have seen 10 pens turned you have seen them all turned. what drew me to your channel years ago was the blanks you were making. you took a cheap bit of wood and did things to it to make an interesting blank from it such as inlays and coke cans ect. i think there is a lot of added value to that from a viewer perspective. you are preaching to the choir so to speak with most of the pen videos . the new part is what it looks like at the end.
i would like more of a shop time aproach rather then just a project. a bit of pottering around the shop is great and showing other projects as well as diy and 'can you just' from the wife projects.
Thank you Alan,
I was thinking more of what I was doing on Whatchadoinbob. I may take that approach but add more detail. I’m still trying to figure it out.
Regards,
Bob
I will miss your content have always enjoyed your videos. At the end of the day you have to make your income, good luck in all your indevors
Thank you.
Regards ,
Bob
I glad you put a video together. Sorry your channel is slow. Sorry to hear that you might miss the mid ohio valley pen gathering this year. I was hoping to talk to you because I couldn’t make it this year because of my knee surgery. Good luck on your pen sales
Thank you Donald,
I’m not planning on going but if the situation changes, I will go.
Regards,
Bob
I have been watching for a long time and also understand what goes into making a video for UA-cam. I have taken my channel content down as there were lots of others doing the same as me, also UA-cam is not my job😎. I will say I do look back on your old videos just for the things I forgot to do when I need pen making help..
Whatever you decide to do, I wish you the best
Take care Bob
Cheers
Harold
Thank you Harold,
I appreciate you watching. I’ll still be around, I’m just going to do fewer videos and maybe change up the content a little.
Regards,
Bob
Hi Bob I'm sorry things aren't the way they should be but knowing your ambition you will prevail and better than ever. So it's one day at a time and just hang in there.
Thank you Ray.
I sure hope you’re right.
Regards,
Bob
Great to see you Bob! I as well have taken time away from pens and have made a few cutting boards. I've also taken a lot of time over the last few weeks to clean and organize my shop. Seems we had the same idea! Have a great year and look forward to what's coming!
Great Minds think alike. 😀
Organizing was very therapeutic and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Everything has its place and m working hard to put it back there when I’m finished using it.
Regards,
Bob
Love the layout of your shop! Just curious - where did you find that Craftsman tool box? It looks like Lowes may have some similar but not exactly like yours.
That’s is an older model toolbox. I found it over Thanksgiving week at a vendor mall. Not sure how old it is but it is in really nice shape.
Regards,
Bob
Bob, I will miss your video output. However, I understand the time commitment involved. You have freely shared your passion for a long time. I can not wait to see you in Virginia. As you know we have been working a LONG time on our next business step. Sadly, many outside life factors have played an effect on that. Please know that whatever you do, do it at a pace that allows you the time to be BOB first. Bless you my friend.
Thank you Niels,
It was great to hear from you. I am looking forward to Virginia as well. There is also a possibility I’ll be at SWAT.
Regards,
Bob
Hi Bob, I fully understand what you said, making videos is so time consuming. I can make 5 pens in the time it would take me to video making one pen.
I haven't posted for nearly 6 months due to my back issues, which are now much better after over 3 years of suffering with them, and ill health within in my immediate family which has meant no real time for me to be in the shop.
I'm hoping to start posting again this month but probably won't be doing one a week as previously done.
The update was great to watch and I'll be here whenever you do decide to post something.
As you will remember I'm already the owner of one of your pens so can only say to anyone that reads this comment BUY ONE of Bob's pens you won't be disappointed.
Take care Bob and Happy New Year.
Cheers, Huw
I’m glad you’re feeling better in your back and I hope your family is getting healthy.
Not sure if your channel is monetized but if it is, you’ll want to drop a video soon. After 6 months they kill your monetization and you
Have to start all over again.
Regards,
Bob
@@RJBWoodTurner Hi Bob, Thanks for your kind wishes.
I'm not monetised so makes no really difference at the moment.
Cheers, Huw
Good hearing from you Bob. Will stay around, love your older videos, always learning something. Take care and see you online when you can.
Thank you Paul,
You have been steadfast friend and I truly appreciate having you as my friend. I only hope we get the chance to meet one day.
Regards,
Bob
It was good to see another video from you. I have learned so much watching your channel. I can't thank you enough for the wisdom you've shared. Can I ask you, what make and model is the old metal lathe?
Hello Kent,
Here is a link to a video I made about the lathe last year when I was going to take the lathe to MOVPTG if anyone wanted it.
I had a guy who spoke for it and then didn’t come to the show. He asked me if I would hold it until he could come pick it up. We made three appointments to meet and he stood me up every time.
I’ve had it under my bench ever since and it’s time to offer it up again.
Let me know if you’re interested.
Regards,
Bob

Hi Bob, always nice to see and hear from you Bob, thanks for the update.
Thank you,
I’m still here, just not going to be as active as I was in the past.
Regards,
Bob
Hey Bob! I completely get it. I put out another video recently because I got the bug again, but I'm still no where near monetization status, so I'm not sure if I want to work at iot real hard for those few dollars. Right now, it's about the community for me We;ll see what happens. It's good to hear from you. The dry erase board is an unexpected game changer for the shop. When I added mine, it was immediately put to use.
I’ll still be out there, mostly for the friendships I’ve built and to keep them going.
The white board is amazing!
Regards,
Bob
Hi Bob,
Thanks for the update. I was just thinking about how I had not seen a video in a while. Disappointed to hear you wont be at MPG this year but I understand completely.
Keep Turning,
Kurt
I wondered what happened, love your videos. I understand the time commitment. I will watch whenever a new video is posted.
Thank you Dave,
I’ll still be around when you least expect it, a video will pop up in your feed. 😀
Regards,
Bob
Been following you for years and enjoy every video. Keep up the good work. As a fellow content creator I understand the frustration with slow growth but I mainly do it as a extension of the hobby. Thanks for the shop tour.
Thank you Bob,
I agree with the extension of the hobby, I just need to make a few less videos and enjoy the hobby more. 😀 we only have so much time and we need to apply it where we get the most return. For me, YT is taking a ton of time and there isn’t much return. Making more for my family and for me pays a much bigger dividend.
Regards,
Bob
@@RJBWoodTurner I get it. Family first. Best of luck.
Oh I meant to ask you about metal lathes I've been thinking about buying one but I'm a little nervous about getting one due to the fact most of them come from China and 2nd a lot of them have plastic gears in them. And the other thing is if bought one can I get steel gears ⚙️ from the little machine shop. And I've considered buying a used one that is an older one that just needs to be cleaned up I wouldn't know if I was getting a good deal or not. So thanks for listening 🎶 and have a great day and I hope some good things will happen in your favor.
I completely understand, I bought an old Atlas at an auction. I thought it was pretty complete but someone had put lipstick on that pig and I ended up having to purchase a ton of parts. Now I have so much invested that it will never be worth what I have in it.
If you buy one, insist they run it for you to prove it’s all there and works.
At least you can still get parts for the old lathes.
Regards,
Bob
Bob I have been watching I guess from the beginning. Have enjoyed seeing your shop equipment grow. I am now disable and cannot work in my shop so you have giving me hours of enjoyment. You have a way of presenting the things you make better than other people making videos. I understand where you are now only one hobby I stayed with for more than 10 years for several reasons. Do what makes you happy life is short. Hope I can continue to follow you in what ever do in the future. Thanks
Thank you Earl,
I’ll still be around, just not as frequently.
Regards,
Bob
Maybe use bow ties for your swing to reinforce the biscuit joints
That is a good idea. I know they will need something to reinforce them.
That’s why I’m changing the design as I make a pattern for future swings.
Regards,
Bob
Hey bob. Long time no see. Hope you have been doing good. I’m going to send you a message later.
Cheers man
Great to hear from you too Thomas.
Regards,
Bob
Gotta do what's right for you and yours Bob,all makers have seen a downturn in interest and income from the tube. Cat videos still seem to generate numbers though🤯🤬
Maybe I should start making cat videos. LOL

Bob
Whereabouts in Mi? I'm in MI too
Detroit.

sometime youtube change algorithme / rules and it's not just you but all youtuber need to adapt to this new reality. For the short video you may be use old video an take a small part and put in short video will do the job fine. I saw this twist with other youtuber it requiery less works. For money side lot of yourtuber use affiliate link, sponsor, sell stuff via a website. Iwish all best for the future of yours channel. Thanks again!!!
Thank you Jimmy,
I have been thinking about using my older videos and clipping shorts from them.
I am an affiliate with Amazon and Turners Warehouse and both are a huge help.
