The Narrative Method of Preaching

There are many methods of teaching the Bible, and not all of them are created equal. My name is Joe Miller and in this episode of the 10 Minute Teacher, I introduce you to the Narrative Method of sermon preparation used by many men and women for their Study and Style of Preaching. I pray you are challenged to experiment with and equipped to be more discerning as you seek to strengthen your preaching of God's Word to His people.

Congratulations on taking the time to describe the various methodologies of preaching. Each one has their place, creating diversity and of course relevance depending on the purpose of the message. Personally i think it is possible to mix various methodologies together in order to create a well balanced message. For me, Jesus was a master of all mentioned, with a strong tendancy to go with the narative approach as it was the best method to connect with the audience of the day...

Ya lost me at Rob Bell and Joel Osteen. Thanks for posting though. It's good to have an understanding of what different people are trying to achieve. I start seminary in the fall.

@@jrmiller777 at first I was not sure if you were trying to promote this style or not, but once I became aware that it was Joel Osteen and Rob Bells preferred methodology I was turned off to it.

@@josephhendersin3751 HI, for context. I am a Seminary Professor and used the videos to teach students about different approaches to preaching. I believe Osteen and Bell preach a false Gospel, but this video looks at their method of preaching to see why it has the impact on so many. It closes with some positives of the style (not of these men) and some signifiant negatives for it at well.

This method needs to be removed from the types of methods.
Just for the simple fact that it does not end it's study in the seeking of truth and true meaning.
Your others on the Exegetical and Expostional methods were very helpful.

It is still a method used by some so making people aware of its shortcomings in presenting the Gospel is why it is up.

I am kind of disappointed you mentioned Joel Osteen as a good preacher. To me he is a false prophet. He only picks and chooses what he wants to teach out of the bible and take that context and put a twist on it to make it sound how he wants it too. He is there to sell false hope to people.

I am glad you left a comment, so please let me disabuse you of your confusion. I never said Osteen was a good preacher. What I said was he is thought of by many as a good example of Narrative preaching. I do not agree with his theology and consider him heretical in his doctrine.
