I REALLY wanted to buy this truck. Loved everything about it... on paper... Then I saw it in real life. Dam IT IS SMALL. The dealbreaker was the bed. 4' bed just isn't usable. As someone who's owned a truck for the past 20 years - I can say a 4' bed would have eliminated 90% of the trips I made with a 6' bed. And the wheel well arches eat up a good chunk of the tiny bed. - Insult to injury was the price. Comparably spec'd, the Honda Ridgeline is way way way more truck for the 'same' money. You get more room in the front seats. You get more room in the back seats. The back seat storage is 2x bigger/2x more efficient in the Ridgeline. The Ridgeline bed is 12" longer AND 8" WIDER and has NO wheel arch protrusions. And the in-bed trunk is 2x bigger. The interior is also nicer, especially since the Ridgeline has a 'lighter' upper interior color. The Cruz interior, already cramped, is murdered out in all black - and it really feels like you are sitting in a dark cave. Oh, final nail - the Ridgeline has a VOLUME KNOB...
So you compare top SC price with bottome RidgeLynn price? RL is too wide, as wide as F150, and that is why I'm not even considering it besides the higher price.
Yeah agree but you should be thinking of this as a "certified pre-owned" option. In a year, this vehicle with, say, 15k miles will be half this price while the ridgeline will be 75 to 80% of its price. An used one from the dealer will retain the long warranty hyundai and kia are known for.
Judging by how far behind Ford and Hyundai are with meeting orders for these vehicles, it is safe to say that General Motors has once again totally missed a market.
HAHAHAH I never would have thought I would have seen Mark enjoy driving this more than almost all the other "reasonably priced/everyday" vehicles he's reviewed YTD, good to know
Subaru really needs to bring back the Baja. There is a cult following, its values have risen, indicating consumer interest, and it's a perfect counterpoint to all those lifestyle trucks that lots of companies are producing. Subaru is the most lifestyle-focused automotive company on Earth and I think all those city people who "love" the outdoors and buy Subarus for that outdoor lifestyle image would be ecstatic to see the Baja come back. It has good proportions, and if Subaru made it a 5-seater I think it would be a sales success
What Hyundai isn't telling people is that none of the Santa Cruzes they offer to the press are the base 4cyl with torque converter automatic. Apparently they're not proud of those.
Watched I think every Santa Cruz review on youtube and 150% loved every second of this. Real and to the point... and the Mechanical on lift video ! YES ! You've gained a subscriber and fan. Thank you ! Getting my Santa Cruz limited in a few weeks.
I really like this vehicle. I drive a 2015 MK7 GTI, and had a MK6 GTI before this one. I love the GTI's, but sometimes feel that I'm limited because there are certain things I'd like to do - like put a kayak on the roof and drive down a gravel or dirt road to launch it, or drive into a campground - that I completely avoid doing because I cringe doing so with the GTI. Plus I go fishing - hate to put sandy and salty equipment in the hatch of the GTI, let alone a bring home fish. I could use the utility of a pickup around the yard as well. But I hate trucks. The Santa Cruz would give me the light utility I need (oh yeah, I bike ride too and throw the bike in the hatch of the GTI) without the penalty of truck like ride, handling and looks. It's even got a turbo charged dual clutch like the GTI.
@@romachoz That's just a longer golf. Does nothing to solve the issues he's talking about. I love wagons and hatchbacks, but this Hyundai does solve a few issues even with those.

Savagegeese, you are the best car reviewer on the internet. And your videos keep raising the bar for expertise, class, and enjoyment higher and higher. Thank you.
This thing is great. I drive one daily as a company vehicle and it the perfect daily driver in my opinion. Decent on fuel, handles fine and the quality seems good too. I have the non-turbo and it still seems plenty powerful. I've heard several owners say this transmission is better than the DCT but I haven't driven one of those. My local dealer also included free tires for the life of the vehicle too so that was a big added perk.
I'd call it a lifestyle truck. They might sell well, I guess. A lot of people seem to "want" a truck so why not get this? The Mav's a bit more like a "tiny" truck. I'd go for the Mav but that's because I don't need/want the lux and pianotouch tech and I wouldn't mind bumping into things as much with it. Nicely done video
Yes, a lot of people want a truck, but the reality of 2022 is that you're looking at well upwards of $50G for a new one (routinely approaching $100G), which while not out of reach for alot of people well established in careers, its way out of reach to most in their 20's which is the sweet spot for this vehicle. For reference, in 2004 you could buy a brand new Z71 Silverado with a 5.3L V8, 4x4, 4 doors, with a 6 foot bed for $24G out the door. Now, you get a Santa Cruz for $10-$20G more, which can't anything near what a 2004 actual truck could do. When consumers complain that their getting screwed, this is exactly what their talking about.
Hyundai is killing it with their looks. They are creating unique, distinguishable designs that stand out across their brand. 10 years ago i’d never think i’d buy one. But Hyundai and even Genesis are at the top of my list for a new car
Excellent review, guys. Kudos for noting the performance of the optional 2.5L turbo 4 cylinder engine. At my last count it's standard or available in at least NINE different KIA, Hyundai, and Genesis models and has received universal praise in virtually every application. As far as the Santa Cruz is concerned, I'm reminded of a review I read a more than a year ago of the VW Amarok, a similar vehicle that's popular in Australia. (It's not coincidental, I think, that Australia is a major market for Hyundai, as well.) At the time, I was somewhat puzzled by the appeal of the Amarok. Want a pickup? Buy a truck, I thought. Want a CUV? Get one, I thought. In response to my comment another viewer noted that the Amarok was far more pleasing to drive on Australia's sketchy roads than a traditional pickup. And if you're returning home with a dead deer, putting it in the bed is preferable to sharing the passenger cabin with the corpse. OK, I get it. And I think you're correct that comparisons between the Maverick and the Santa Cruz are misplaced. Ford will sell many, many more Mavericks, especially when fleet sales are taken into account. I have a friend who owns a local construction company and has ordered 4 Hybrid Mavericks to supplement his fleet of eight F-150s. Since his work is mainly local and is limited to the work week, the Maverick is ideal for his needs. On the other hand, I suspect that Hyundai will sell as many Santa Cruz "SAVs" as they can build, virtually all of which will go to individual consumers.
So far I've been seeing a lot more Santa Cruz than Mavericks. Fleet sales I could see offsetting that in due time, however. And I live in small town Iowa.
Hell no, you should be banned from the internet with that comment. At least the maverick resembles a truck which should look rugged. Only a beta male like you would drive this abomination
Test drove this bad boy and it drives great. Tested right after the Ford Maverick and hands down the Santa Cruz is the way to go. It had a higher driving height and felt like driving an SUV. Very peppy and comfortable ride. The Maverick suspension was a bit crashy on Los Angeles roads. And Maverick seats felt a bit tiny and tight to me.
This is more versatile than cuv's since it has the same comfort, amenities and space but with more options for the rear. With the tonneau cover you can still securely store a lot of stuff plus you have the option of carrying bigger things that a cuv never will. If you're a hockey parent you can keep the stinky hockey back out of the actual passenger compartment. Not as dog friendly is the only downside I can see.

My wife's 2017 Ford Escape with the 2.0 Ecoboost Turbo is awesome, though it has the older six-speed with paddle shifters. It benefits tremendously from warming up, and running for over 30 minutes. I would think that the maverick would perform similarly, even with an 8speed.

Its another overly expensive crossover with an open trunk aimed squarely at the Subaru crowd nothing more, nothing less. A set of BFG all terrain KO2 tires would go a long ways towards some visual ruggedness.
It seems like a great car for running errands like Costco and picking up dry cleaning. Maybe a good daily depending on your use case.
The most phoned in episode ever….I love it!
But of a lurker on this channel until now. Just to say your content and dead-pan delivery is as entertaining as it is informative, absolutely love it. All best wishes from southern Spain. ☀️🏖️🇪🇸
The best car reviews I have seen in my life.
Amazing stuff always love to see it
The front grill looks awesome lit up at night. Like a streamlined art deco train.
I love what Honda is doing here. Great third row seating and tianium exhaust. Can't wait to show cheryl.
Sh-awd is the best in the business
Cheryl’s in the She Shed.
Hyundai..
I have Santa Cruz Limited and I love it. Great vehicle!
This is probably one of the best reviews, and I'm getting "Chrysler Pacifica PHEV"-vibes from that review video. Absolutely had my usual stoneface in tears from laughing.
Without the piano black plastic, we wouldn't have that epic commentary.
-
Insult to injury was the price.
@@Dragon_Gaming2020 none are real trucks
@@RafaelPernia15k miles and a year later this car would still sell for msrp
Judging by how far behind Ford and Hyundai are with meeting orders for these vehicles, it is safe to say that General Motors has once again totally missed a market.
Not a fan of the current Hyundai headlights but overall this thing looks like an appealing concept. I would definitely drive it!
This will be a tough sale if the Pontiac Aztek Cross Cabriolet comes out soon
I think most lifestyle focused company would be jeep. So many are just street crawlers.
Love the weirdness when you throw them into the reviews, especially Todd, where's my boy at!?
What Hyundai isn't telling people is that none of the Santa Cruzes they offer to the press are the base 4cyl with torque converter automatic. Apparently they're not proud of those.
Watched I think every Santa Cruz review on youtube and 150% loved every second of this. Real and to the point... and the Mechanical on lift video ! YES ! You've gained a subscriber and fan. Thank you ! Getting my Santa Cruz limited in a few weeks.
this was classic savage geese I love it
also this thing is pretty sweet I'm glad we are getting these type of cars again
One of the best episodes in a while! Thank you so much
I really like this vehicle.
Just get 2.0t A4 allroad
@@romachoz That's just a longer golf. Does nothing to solve the issues he's talking about. I love wagons and hatchbacks, but this Hyundai does solve a few issues even with those.
@@d2mini Thank you.
@@d2mini you can easily put allroad on high rubber, like 55/60, with simple suspension mods and flat bottom it will beat this car in performance, awd system, reliability with ea888, and same capacity when you fold seats
But ok I get your point I just love all roads
I just got this Saturday. I'm 31 years old and I dont like all the bells and whistles really but it suits my needs living out in rural. It's fucking really nice tbh.
And I got it for 24k.
A good option for city folks.
That bed looks promising for light duty outdoor activities gears.
If gas mileage is good, It’s a good option for Tuscan buyers.
As a Dad who is driving a 2015 Allroad this thing has gotten my attention. We live in a Beach town and we are constantly going back and forth to the beach with what feels like 6 lb of sand coating all my toddlers shit that we *apparently* need when we are there. I mean I drive an allroad so apparently I'm already an adventurer, maybe why this thing speaks to me.
This review may have been the funniest one I've watched by you guys in a long time. Well done keep it up and Mark I'm going to need that skin care routine when you get a second. I'll wait.
We’ve all been there Chris, with the shop vac willing those tiny beads of sand from the nice carpet in the back of the car 🤷♂️🤷♂️☹️☹️☹️
At this point I'm just watching your reviews for pure entertainment! You could review a toilet brush and I'd watch the hell out of it. Thank you for the great content!
He reviewed a bidet a couple years ago and that shit was pure gold.
That interior impressions section was probably the funniest thing I've ever seen on this channel 😂
This is a good opportunity for Subaru to bring back the Baja!!
Many thanks for playing Skee Lo at the end of the video. That made my day. Good work as always!
That's a smartass vehicle, easy to see it as a new category, love the thoughtful body design, looks good to protect against salt rust in snowing environments... also the mil-spec looking simple heavy build on the chassis is wicked bulletproof and simple, who don't like that... these will look insane with custom wheels and colorful coil over package...ya it's kind of exciting actually seeing something new that doesn't lick nutz
Savagegeese, you are the best car reviewer on the internet. And your videos keep raising the bar for expertise, class, and enjoyment higher and higher. Thank you.
love the Santa Cruz design .
Absolutely love these guys. great reviews and humor galore.
Hyundai is killing it with their looks. They are creating unique, distinguishable designs that stand out across their brand. 10 years ago i’d never think i’d buy one. But Hyundai and even Genesis are at the top of my list for a new car
I am so thankful for the PT cruiser video introducing me to this channel.
when is jack creating his own spin off channel for high end sport boats???
He already has one, its paid only content for super elite on 4chan.
Here for the piano black - I was not disappointed! Nice looking soft-roader that will be right at home in the Arby's drive-thru.
Such adventure, much urbanity, wow. 🧐
Live, love, laugh demographic.
Great informative (and fun) content . Looking forward to the next one.
You guys do such a good job.
I think these look like something Master Chief would drive, and that's awesome. I just wish it had the specs of the frumpy neanderthal Maverick.
Hell no, you should be banned from the internet with that comment. At least the maverick resembles a truck which should look rugged. Only a beta male like you would drive this abomination

Great informative review with just the right amount of humor. Good job guys 👍
I'm sure the Santa Fe will be better for dodging homeless people, considering the roads are basically made of them in Los Angeles.
I'll take your word for it, but it still looks ridiculous.
I honestly thought it looked ridiculous too up until I test drove it and it won me over. But I ended up going with Santa Fe instead.
@@JonMoralesLA I'm considering the Santa Cruz and Santa Fe/Sorento as well. Curious why you chose the Santa Fe?
If I wanted an SUV I'd buy an SUV.
The in the shop banter was hilarious. Great job guys
You wouldn't believe how fast this thing is. And how nice the driving is. 80 mph feels like 50 mph.
Beautiful shots. Highly questionable opening music
I’ve been with used cars for 25 years now, this vehicle is changing my mind !

The video itself is nice but I really enjoy the blend of music, visuals and sarcastic banter. you two have..it is awsome that you guys are not taking your self serious while experimenting with different themes...I think I saw some Grindhouse '70s kind of vibes with the music and videos..please keep up the great work.
Did that say "dedciated to Bobby" at the intro?
Yes it did. I scrolled down the comments to see if anyone else saw the typo first. You did!

Thanks! After a garbage week, I needed the laughs to escape for a few minutes.
i hope they make a full electric version of this. it would fit my lifestyle... and my garage a lot better than other electric pickups out there.
This as an EV is exactly what the EV market needs right now, it seems like a no-brainer. The same demographic that would buy this is the same demographic that has shot everything labeled "adventure" through the roof. Furthermore, there looking for an affordable way to cut the damn pump forever without joining the cult of Tesla, (as its often called).
Rivian sort of has you covered if you've got the cash.
@@misteratoz rivian is huge. just like all the other electric pickups. need something that will actually fit in my garage so i can charge it overnight. don't need a capable offroader, just something i can haul a bunch of stuff from home depot for my weekend home projects, or help a neighbor move something big once in a while.
this would slay if its electric and cheaper than base rivian
So Savage! I have a side hustle. I build 3 to 4 houses a year with 2 other partners. I don’t carry any lumber, roofing materials, etc (our trades people bring that or we get deliveries), but I do bring a lot of boxes of lighting, door hardware, cabinet pulls, signage, plumbing and electrical trim, dozens of boxes from Amazon, etc. - this is a perfect vehicle for that. Problem is, I took my wife to look at one. She knows nothing about cars, although she likes going to my BMW dealer with me. She says, this is an SUV with the back cut off. Once she said that, I started to worry about the size of my member. So I’m looking at Raptors now or cargo liners for a BMW X3M Competition.
good thing it doesn't have 9 front daylight running lights, I draw the line at 8.

As always, great video guys. I can always count on you to make me laugh even for the "boring" cars.
The Santa Cruz looks like a flower; yeah, cauliflower!
Three and a half minutes in and this is my favorite automotive review of all time
My wife's 2017 Ford Escape with the 2.0 Ecoboost Turbo is awesome, though it has the older six-speed with paddle shifters. It benefits tremendously from warming up, and running for over 30 minutes. I would think that the maverick would perform similarly, even with an 8speed.
I don't know if I want this SAV but this video made my day. You guys rule!
This car is the equivalent of me sticking the same picture of my face on a t shirt, a hoodie, a hat and a mug, all for the sake of brand identity
That front have gotte many strange feedbacks. I like it very cool video!

@@Ecuador006 No
I've never been a huge Ford guy- but I must say, the Maverick is going to devour this thing.
The ranger and canyon sales say "No.."
They’ll outsell it for sure, but devour? Probably not.
In America that would happen regardless of how good this thing is.
there's a reason for the low priced truck and cars dissapearing, people would rather get in debt to be able to get the nicer thing. Let's see in a few years.
The Ford has such great value and quality in it, but it would be too sad see only Maverick as option, geeeze, please no
Brilliant review: The right balance of information, opinion, intro, tunes, humour (even a Aussie can understand) … and words like “fu€king mall”. That’s entrainment, and it’s unique. Well done gents.
Personally, I'd rather own the vehicle that less people have.
I'd also rather have the vehicle that drives and handles better on the pavement, and (for me) looks far better.
Point is, I might give up my VW GTI for a Santa Cruz.
There's no way in hell I'd turn that car in for a Maverick.
Great for that once a week trip to the dump.
