Took my first Masters test in NY in 1969. Was messed with by “authorities” saying I wasn’t experienced enough. Had to get letters from 3 NY Masters verifying their confidence that I was qualified to be allowed to test at all. Try that when you will wind up competing with those same Masters. Was a challenge but passed. Second in Va in 1980 different but passed. Third in Florida in 2000. Florida has the roughest one in the country. Filled with many things I would never include in a electrical exam. Designed to keep the “riff raff” out. Unfortunately the “Good old boys” disease spreads in any state.

Some states set the bar high to limit the percentage of people that passes, so you simply have to be in that top 10%, and you can get there with good prep like this; great work, man!
I think that’s by design. They really only want people responsible for lives and investments to have had to go through a somewhat arduous process to take on such liability.
I just came across your channel...you are very knowledgeable in this field. I'm currently starting school for a one year training. Learning massachusetts codes and national codes, circut theory, electrical machine, and electrical safety. I been a industrial maintenance mechanic for 14 years..mostly in the manufacturing machines and systems. I know I will require a minimum of 4 years in the field hands on training under the supervision of a master electrician.. I already have a little bit of knowledge in industrial electrical systems like, motor controls, relays switches, automation, servos motors, plc, ac and dc power, three and two phase. But i know I still have alot more to learn. I can't wait to go for my exam and get my license. I'm also getting 2000 hours of credit. In massachusetts the requirement is 8000 hours before being eligible for state exam. I will be going thru all your contents so I can learn a few things to help me out on this journey..its my dream to become a license electrician. my background is in industrial maintenance mechanic combining that experience with a electrical license, will open alot of new doors and apportunities. Electrician will always be in demand. Thanks for making these videos.
At 60, the likelihood of me becoming an electrician is about zero. Still, I love the passion in your videos. Your dedication shows. I look forward to future videos. Andy

The mike holt code prep course (16 weeks 4 hours a week) helped me alot in being able to find the code not only know the code. I go take my masters test Saturday time to put all the hard work to work.
That we have to search for this instead of learning it from a young age at school shows why school can be a complete waste But its the only thing we got atm so definitely dont drop out. Stay strong fam
9:04 You should put TFM in marker on that manuals binder you just closed. Your passion shows. You are a great example for people deciding if being an electrician is their future. (When you are younger and wondering if you are on the right path or wasting your time, ask yourself if you are doing good work. The only way you are definitely on the wrong path is if you do half-ass work. In that case not only are you wasting your time but you are useless to people who love what they do.) Regards.
I have been a HVAC/R tech in the Air Force for the last 15 years and I love the trades and doing my own work in my house as I love learning how to do things. Im glad these videos are here to ensure us home owners that don’t want the extra cost to make sure things are done right and not a hack job. So glad to see you back at it!!! Can't thank you enough for all the knowledge!
Feels good to be back on my grind 🤘 thanks for watching, I’m glad you get something from it :)
@@ElectricianU You saved me from leaving the field and going back to retail! If you're ever in NC, I owe you a drink! You definitely have helped make me a better electrical estimator!!!
I start school this January, my goal is to prepare myself as much as I can to start my own business in 5 years. Your videos are a huge motivator man. Thank you!
I finished my Union apprenticeship in January of 2002. Since I have relocated to a new state, I have to test for my license. It's been awhile, but your videos have been great! Thank you.
Nice to see UA-cam channels like this i my self am a electrician. I took a appertiship course through the IBEW and past my test on the first try. Now I'm working on Getting my masters license. Hop i can get that on the first try as well.
he said "dope" and I thank you for that..I also appreciate that you admit you dont always pass inspection, whatnot..I like how u said "if you care" (about what your doing, or something like that) it just struck me, because I feel like I'm the only one who likes to learn on spare time whatnot. thanks again bro..great content. keep it up:)
I’m coming up on eight years of electrical work, still not legally licensed in my state of TN.
The information you gave on studying for the test, on ones OWN especially, in my opinion is 💯% accurate and very helpful information.
It didn’t take me long watching you channel to hit subscribe and like on this video! Very thankful and appreciate the information you gave and look forward to more!!
Keep it up and stay safe on the job!!⚡️🔌💡
That's dedication, determination, resilience and passion. You are inspiring EU
Glorious day! Thanks man for coming back, you re objectively the best 💪💪💪
Thanks buddy! Does that mean that I’m subjectively the worst?! 🤣
I'm 9 months into my apprenticeship and I'm so nervous about testing for my RW. I'm super excited i found your chanel though! Your video on 3 way switches was great 😊
That chick was never the one. Support is a huge guarantee especially from the other half. I have the same problem. Thanks bro.
I appreciate everything you do. I look forward to every new video that you post. Please don't stop!
So happy the videos are back man thank you
I'm going for my journeyman test soon.....in about 4 and a half years or so
Ima be an apprentice soon too... about 3 years
@John Doe you have to be at least 18 years old to become an apprentice
Can you advise any books to prepare for journeyman test. I work as an electrician at factory in Russia and i would like to try to work abroad. Please send me some links on pdf files or something.
Brilliant idea and highly smart means of going about it my friend good work !!!
Starting out in the trade. Love your channel. It’s very helpful learning where to start and how to get licenses. Thank you!
That is the studying of a man obsessed with success😤. Lol I need to be studying for the act like that.
Thank you so much for such amazing content. Greetings from NYC.
Don't stress too much, there might be adderall involved lol. Or at least a great support system of family, relationship, friends, etc.
Colleges today don't care about your tests. They care about diversity and inclusion so act gay in your interview and they will take you in.
I love your videos man, and they are really helpful. I dig the shoutout to Paul Abernathy, I’m doing his Master the NEC Fast Trax program and it’s the most useful thing I’ve ever come across. Super thorough breakdown of the code and it comes with tons of practice questions, exams, etc. that are helping me get ready to test. I’ll have to check out those dewalt books, too. Electrical work and trade work in general changed my life for the better, I appreciate all you do bro!!
Hey Dustin I had to let you know how informative you are, and I learned a lot from you. I love the way you explain things and had to give you your flowers while you’re here. Keep it up.
Excellent explanation, I did the same, my library contemplate data from 2005. Excellent technique. Congrats!
I really like the editing. Great video.
Thank you very much for your advice,
I am a fourth year apprentice I really want to pass the journeyman exam in the state of California,A lot of other apprentice’s that I’ve meet do not pass the journeyman exam I’ve meet some apprentice’s that have over 20 year’s of experience and can not pass the journeyman test.
100% anybody who reads needs to try to put it in their own words, u will never forget what u learned if u do. Great vid man!!
Some states set the bar high to limit the percentage of people that passes, so you simply have to be in that top 10%, and you can get there with good prep like this; great work, man!
one thing tho': add the DeWalt book to the book list on your website?
Oh you’re right! I thought it was on there. Good looking out, thanks dude!
I think that’s by design. They really only want people responsible for lives and investments to have had to go through a somewhat arduous process to take on such liability.
Wow i dont recall how long ago it was when i first found you but your doing awesome im happy too see it.
You have absolutely have the best channel Enjoy Every thing you Teach on your channel Thank you !!!!
respect from the Caribbean 🇯🇲🔥
Andy
Go for it it's a good career never too old
Buh-RO. From a fellow ATX-er, thanks for the knowledge and passing on your experiences. Still pretty new to the game, prepping for my residential wireman, looking forward to continuing to grow and excel. Best of luck and thanks again!
This is great i am moving to a new state small town and want to go solo and was unable to pursue a prep because of covid now i will have to do it on my own. Thanks for this
Man, you are great with all techniques. You put together great study guide for yourself. I only had 2 weeks to learn before my PMMI Industrial electricity 1 test. Test is on Monday with crush course I received from my Apprenticeship. I am freaking out about it. Language in books and language on the test completely off. I wish someone put some kind of short learning practice for it somewhere. Thank you for your video.
I just found your channel and ima try and get in this industry thank you
Great advice i have 18 years working in the field with no classes just taught by the old guys on the job. The mike holt code prep course (16 weeks 4 hours a week) helped me alot in being able to find the code not only know the code. I go take my masters test Saturday time to put all the hard work to work.
Sweet, did you pass it?
5:46 "This seems like you're trying to convert to LEDs" --hahahahahaa, that was great
Glad your back
dude .... i wanna pop an addy and listen to you for like 40 hours cause i match your energy ..and go kill this test !!!! awesome job man !!!
a
That we have to search for this instead of learning it from a young age at school shows why school can be a complete waste
But its the only thing we got atm so definitely dont drop out.
Stay strong fam
Niceeeee I’m about to graduate apex next Wednesday and I’ve been watching your videos for a while too. Thanks for all the knowledge
Thanks for the resources Justin you are the best!!
Gotta get passionate about what we do....thank you!
Real og 💯 brotha thank you for helping me study brotha. Your channel is the best full of important knowledge😎💪👍 hats off bro
Highlighting my book now, hope to test in the summer. Thanks!
Thank you for what you do bro, your video series has helped me substantially.
I have been a HVAC/R tech in the Air Force for the last 15 years and I love the trades and doing my own work in my house as I love learning how to do things. My electrical needs upgraded and feel I have the understanding to do it. These videos are helping me ensure when I tackle my project I do it right and not what I think is right. Im glad these videos are here to ensure us home owners that don’t want the extra cost to make sure things are done right and not a hack job. I wish there were videos giving basic information on getting permits and what to expect.
I love that u are back
Nice to see you back, hooyah.
I do the same with manuals and diagrams too!.. It's a good practice that can really help in the future if you don't consistently work with a certain piece of equipment or device!
Hey, man you have really good information I had no idea about! Great work!👍
This is a HUGE topic. Glad someone other than Mike Holt did this. Don't get me wrong, Mike's solid, but maybe too much for some people.
Practicing for my J test, your awesome, thanks for everything
If you gotta take it more than once it's all good just don't give up! Stick with it!
I’m in year two of the iec apprenticeship and I’m loving it and it’s pretty cool you did too
I didn't do the apprenticeship, I just took a test prep class over 3 days to study for my Journeyman exam. IEC has some great instruction though
@@ElectricianU after the apprenticeship I’m going to take a year to study like you did so I can pass first time. In fl we don’t have a masters either we have a contractors license. I’ll be studying for that as well. Lots of studying
Been tunning in since 1st yearr 4th year now time to test
Wish you all the best !💯
If you believe it you’ll achieve it🙏
I’m in my first year just started my journey
I’m super excited 😊
Thanks for the help and being dedicated to help others
It's not all too often you get all this neatness in one location.
Bruh.... gettin jacked man! 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻 keep it up man
Thank you Dustin, I am proud of you and you are very motivating and are impacting my electrical journey more than you realize! Thank you... LoL I also write tiny...
Testing out in 15 days. Thanks for all the knowledge Dustin!
Did you pass? What state are you testing in?
@@andrerodriguez8132 yes sir. Passed first shot in Tennesee
@@tonygorton1874 congrats bro. Taking my test soon in California.
I got my master's license in 1992. I wish your content was available back then, because I took the test twice, and it was tough both times.
"This seems like you're trying to convert to LEDs" 😂🤣😂🤣
(~5:30-6:00 rant about the EC&M logo)
From a licensed electrician the only thing I can say is I understand your love of on the field hands on. I do hope I have the time to get my masters electrician license.
About to test for my residential wireman license in Texas and I’m only 20. Looking forward to making a career
Preparing for my third attempt. Ive vested about seven years doing mechanical installs and somehow made it through four year apprenticeship program. My on the job training seems very minimal and I never really had a mentor. Im starting to wonder if Im wasting my time.
I love this video . Thanks for your story!!!!
Very well explained thank you!
The most valuable tip to success...prepare, practice, then perform.
People want it to be another way but it just doesn’t work like that. It always takes consistent practice.
Thanks for great informational vid. I will study and get ready and some day my chance will come.
Good video. You hit the nail right on the head
