@@raindrxpz2473 just know it goes by very fast. There will be like 4-6 people, board members from the hall I believe. They will all ask you a specific question and they are all related to work experience. Like “tell us about a time you or a coworker was faced with a dangerous situation and how you overcame it” Don’t lie, they prefer honesty and they interview enough people to tell when someone’s lying. Instead say “I haven’t experienced this but if I had I would do this” etc. Good luck!

So do as good as you can on the math and be sure to Ace the reading portion. Also they told us if we failed it was only 3 months to retake so that’s not so bad. It’s better than 6 months.

It's been so long for me we didn't even have PEMDAS (or BODMAS) to help remember order of operations. We were told order of operations... but I don't recall any useful acronym being taught. Thankful we DO have youtube and generous people taking their time to make videos like this one! Sincerely, this old dog trying to learn the new tricks.

  • @UmbraFaux
    @UmbraFaux 2 роки тому +16

9:58 Order of operations is wrong. PEMDAS (BIDMAS) dictates that exponents come before multiplication. So the 1.02 would need to be squared first before multiplying by 100.
For simplifying fractions, another method is to divide across top and bottom. So for the second multiplying question, you can divide the 3 and 6 by 3 to get 1 and 2. Then multiply across to get 1/16.
Now for when explaining BIDMAS, it should be noted that D and M are what comes first, as is A and S. So in 5x6/2, you do 5x6 first even though D is listed first.
Other than those little sticklers, thank you for making the video.

I love this video, but you gave the long way around of finding the percentage of a number. You can find the percentage way easier than that. i.e.,
15% of 22 can easily be found by solving it as 22 × .15
The decimal takes 15 from being a whole number to a percentage of the number 1, so instead of adding up all those different percentages you can just do one multiplication problem and go on to the next question. I hope this makes sense to everyone out there reading this. I am no Math guru, but I do understand this area of it thoroughly.

The section about keeping track of the 1st and 2nd differences in number sequences was very useful for the test (I took it this past week). In the past for pattern questions like this I would just look at it and think about it and the pattern would not be that hard to find, but using the method described here made EVERY pattern recognition question on the test a near-brainless endeavor.
From a real-world practical point of view I don't think the patterns that I saw in the test were necessarily realistic, so were not easy to identify intuitively. And I have a bit of a problem with the idea that like 15% of the entire math test score uses basically the same pattern type over and over, which highly favors anyone who happened to have been taught to look for that specific type of pattern. No exaggeration, all of the patterns were just analyzing the 2nd differences, none of them used multiplicative factors, prime numbers, squares, cubes, nothing. But, it is what it is, and thankfully I decided to watch this video even though I didn't feel I would have any problems on the test. I probably would've passed either way, but the method made it way easier.

Bidmas or pemdas explained that way makes a lot of people make mistakes, which is why there's all those 'solve this problem' stuff on facebook that people mess up. Each two letters are the same step. So it's more like (Pe)(Md)(as). Brackets and Indices are solved on the same step as are division and multiplication, then add and subtract. Within each step you go left to right. So if you see 3-4+5 you do the whole thing left to right, not addition before subtraction.

An easier way to find % of a number is to write it as fractions and simplify for x.

When finding the percent of a number can't you also just do this method...
    For example:
    Find 32% of 174
    32 % times 100 = 100
    32% times 70 = 22.4
    32% times 4 = 1.28
Add the answers from each one and you'll get your total which is = 55.68
Just times the percentage by the next milestone (ones, tenths, hundreds place etc)
    Don't forget it's not 32 is 32 % when ur multiplying !!
