I have one of these and it’s too complicated for this geezer so it’s been setting on top of the bookcase for the last four years.
It was supposed to replace my trusty Radio Shack Pro-75 which I still use to monitor aircraft.

I like this video. Thank you. I’m looking into purchasing one of these. Things have changed a great deal over the last 20 years, and my old scanners are not very useful on the current systems.

@@Bearcatwarehouse Thank you. I have just ordered one thanks to your video and reading the manual I found at Uniden’s website. It looks ideal for the trunk systems here in Virginia. I like the zip code and gps scanning features and looking forward to giving it a try. My IC-R10 still has some uses, but time to upgrade.
I'm right there with you. I have the uniden truck tracker iii and it's so outdated now. This new one seems so complicated.
Don’t throw your old one away, you never know if they go back to analog in the event the digital wireless network goes down for any reason.

Can you make a video on how to program using zip code for beginners?

TheCatography To use the zip code feature all you have to do is hit the "Zip Services" Button on the Radio. USA and Canada will appear as selectable options, with USA selected hit the "E" button. Next, enter the desired zip code, Once entered press the "E" button. That's it! I hope this helps, sorry for the late response.

@@shanemarcotte2062 The Sentinel software isn't required to operate the zip code feature, The software is used to apply Firmware & Database Updates. You would want to download the software to update your database to the most current version though.
If you buy this scanner i suggest you get yourself some Panasonic Eneloop Pro 2550 mAh rechargeable batteries.

Why must you remove the batteries to charge them? At this price, I can not comprehend the inability to charge while operating when connected to 12 volts. Uniden seems to be slipping backward in the engineering department! I was ready to make the purchase when I discovered this and some other features that have been omitted, what a shame. I go back decades with Uniden equipment, now not so much anymore.

I know thi was from 3 years ago, but I am really thinking about buying this scanner, but I would like to know if it will pick up the New AWIN Frequencies??
I have one of these and the county next to me in IL uses the starcom system like the state police and I hear all the state police but by doing the hold process and scrolling thru it doesn't show that county. I have the talk group for the county but have no idea how to add that channel anywhere.

As I had gotten help from emailing, when we avoid, its known as "temporary", when we turn off the system, will the system still be on avoid when its turned back on? This is a question regarding, if I just want to listen to EMS, and Fire in my area. Thanks for the video!

You can either "Temporary" or "permanently" avoid a system, department or channel. If you have a system avoided it won't come back up until you remove the avoid. It would be easier to disable the service types you arent interested in then enable them when you need.

My scanner quit scanning. I power it on and it no longer scans. Just pulls up a channel and stays there. Any suggestions?
Any idea why my scanner isn’t showing the service bars? I can’t hear any traffic . Keeps scanning thru. No bars . Am I doing something wrong. I’m scanning Lake County Indiana . P25 phase II I believe .any help please?

@jamescostanzo5687 Press Func + Volume, then when you dial the volume knob it will allow you to set the squelch.
will this pick up encrypted channels or will theybe listed as a whoooshing sound ????

Can you turn off the beeps when you press the key pad buttons like I can on my BC125AT?
@West Cascade Rail Yes, "Adjust Key Beep" can be found on Page 32 of the owner's manual.

Why can the squelch won't do anything
Can I listen to Railway On This ( Canadian Pacific Railway) like just with a normal frequency or is it just for trunking. Cause i have a BC125AT and Want to upgrade but i still want Rail as well as Fire, Police, ect. Thank You,
@MattCanadianPacific Yes, you can listen to conventional analog frequencies and trunked frequencies.

@Bill Nahorn Yes, you can create a favorites list with any amount of frequencies you want in it. You can create this list using the Sentinel software.

i have a quick question if anyone sees this , had a storm come through and i had my 436 plugged into USB into the PC and power went out for a split second enough to reboot the pc , and it hasnt been the same since , now any transmission that comes through has a tone / squeal come through on it kind of like a CB squeal , im gonna send it in but im thinking its just gonna be the speaker , only had it 7 months so all should be under warranty
@BostonNerdism it might be related to a power surge, no worries though you can send it in for warranty repair.

+sonicx572 You would need to program the desired Airshow/thunderbirds frequencies before listening. Check out my "Uniden Sentinel Software Beginners Guide" video this explains how to program using the Sentinel software.
Can I delete or clear the frequencies in this radio that were down loaded by entering the zip code and then reprogram manually?

You can either use the Full database or favorites lists to scan. To turn the Full Database off you would need to go into the menu under "set scan selection". We recommend using the sentinel software to create favorites lists, programming manually is pretty difficult. We also offer a service on our website to program the radio for you.
I am going to sound stupid but my husband locked mine and I want to unlock it. I did know how to before he got his grandpa a new one and gave me his. So my question is how do I unlock the keypad on mine

To unlock the keypad you would press the function button, then tap the power key.
(Don't press and hold power, just tap it once).
You can repeat the process to lock the keypad again.

How do you get this off military time? I was setting the clock and apparently set for 12hr instead of 24hr I went back to reset the clock but only the time option is there no option for 12hr or 24hr time what to do now? thx
@Walter Unfortunately you cannot change the Military time setting, You can adjust the time in the menu under settings/set clock.

@michael mckeithan Wake County uses a mixture of systems, Wake County (SmartZone), Cary/Wake(Project 25 Phase I) & North Carolina VIPER. Frequencies change on these periodically, If you have the latest updates you should be good to go.
How do I update my scanner it’s like they just up and left
Can anyone help me...I accidently locked my keypad lock on this scanner and have no clue how to unlock it. The only channel I get is the weather channel. I just want to unlock it to get into the menu again and reset everything. Thank you.

Lia Porcelli to unlock the keypad press Function then quickly tap the power button. This will remove the keypad lock.

14 hours is fine
Extra batteries and a charger is the way to go..
How do you program a dmr tier 3 frequencies
You must have purchased the DMR upgrade first. Uniden has never released how to use these new modes to the public (altho the software suppliers have figured it out). You should join RadioReference which is pretty much the place to be for US listeners. There is one thread that directly addresses your question, altho there are several others that relate to DMR programming (but not necessarily T3...forums.radioreference.com/threads/programming-dmr-tier-3-questions.427983/
