Two weeks ago, while sitting 1st at crossing, my son says, "look at the sparks under that train!" It was the first time either of us had seen a rail grinder and it drove by at a walking pace.
So very sad to miss the daily program, but thank you for the days you did do them. These programs got me thru some bad days during chemo and radiation when even sitting up was a struggle. Nothing kept me from watching , and sometimes watching the same program a number of times. I shall miss watching LaGrange and the citizens doing some very crazy things almost on a daily basis. Again, thanks for the daily memories.
God bless you Joyce! I hope your feeling better and getting your strength day by day. Your comment really got me as I have a friend from church laid up in bed due to a broken back. I try to never take my health for granted, every day is a blessing from the Lord. These grab bags are a lot of fun to watch, glad to hear they helped you on those tough days. Have a wonderful weekend
Thank you for all you do and have done to knit the national community together. Every other day worked fine before and it will work just as well going forward.
Yep i enjoyed the daily grab bags and I can only imagine the amount of work it took to get these together daily so thank you to whoever does these and i'll enjoy the 2-days when those happen.
Excellent start to last daily grab bag with the Great North wall of Deshler courtesy of M209, thanks for all the daily grab bags, looking forward to the next one.
I don't mind if you do the grab bags every day or every other day, I will still be here to find parts worth mentioning, such as at 0:32 the entire depot rubble is gone and two crossing posts are waiting to be installed 0:48 another unit for Colombia 1:02 cool wood-carrying gondolas 2:20 warbonnet 678 leading 2:30 Amtrak 203 leading the Capitol Limited 3:00 CN SD40-2W. Not time to cut in front of the train! 11:26 Amtrak 160 "Pepsi" leading the Southwest Chief 13:00 NS unit towing an Amtrak train
Have really enjoyed the daily grab bags, The puppy and I watch every day after his breakfast. Absolutely realize its a lot of work, thanks so much for doing these.
I see the KCS royal is closer to home in Oklahoma and Kansas with its regal colors. A nice hello horn in OK too! A unknown white and yellow engine looks pretty nifty too. SP K&O with unknown black engine are running off for a special delivery! HERZOG and LORAM the construction sci-fi equipment...their names even look and sound sci-fi. Now they even sound sci-fi..!!! Today the freight trains acted as they should carrying freight... lots of cargo and coal ...it is car season too. Transcontinental too. Nighttime rail must be the quiet time even for trains! Funny of the day did NS pick up a hitchhiking amtrak along it's way? I bet that amtrak Barstow train was to long to get into its own switcher curve rail birth. Wave of the day was BNSF gave a full half body wave at the spaghetti works building Wichita.. Now I want spaghetti works Omaha for real... Thanks
I saw the Amtrak heritage livery (AMTK 145) shown at 1:55 today pulling the NB Silver Star. I managed to catch it in New Hill, NC but took a snapshot of the rear of the baggage car instead of a video (I didn't realize Amtrak didn't use an EOT until today). I did manage to see it again in Garner, NC after it stopped in Cary and Raleigh, 3 hours late. I was excited since I'm pretty sure that's similar to what was in use when I was a kid.
Always looked forward to the daily grab bag. Thanks. VR gives all of us who love railroading a great variety of locations that we would never see in our lifetime. Some don’t even have train tracks anywhere near where they live. Keep up the good work.
I’m ok with grab bags every other day. Going on vacation, being outta town or working so much I would often get behind and later have to try and catch up! I’m impressed with all the editing and compiling you all do for each program.
Hello VR crew, I’ve been watching your videos for a few years now and they’re always good ones. Every day or every other day is still a lot better than not being there at all. Thanks for doing all this for us 😁
Always greatly enjoy the Grab Bags. I am sure they take an enormous amount of work to compile so I understand the schedule change. Please keep the fine work coming as often as you can. Definitely one of the highlights of the day!! Thanks for doing this. 😁
Losing daily service to every other day is a bummer, but we'll still ride. Don't forget to include the Bear, the Deer at Ft. Mad and all the critters at Pairadise.
Coming from an Engineer, piloting it on the CN/GTW. Just as soon as those stones hit the rail, $60,000.00 is what the railroad is being in charged. So if the Grinding Train picks up the stones and waits on traffic to get by and never gets back out, that's money Loram is getting. Just food for thought 💰🇺🇸
Is it just me or are there suddenly a lot more warbonnets being put into use again? In recent grab bags there have been a few and in this one there were 3
So Paul Bunyan chopped down the last tree in Ohio? Apparently the toilet paper shortage is true. @ 5:50 the Wisconsin Central Mega Log Hauler is way offline to see the Charmin bears in Cincinnati.
How many times can a rail be grinded? I can only assume they take off just microns but seems like it could become detrimental if not properly scheduled.
What is it called when another rail companies engine is carried/towed on another’s line? And what would be the purpose of this - one train is passing through and can’t operate on another’s network?
Improved container and TOFC services ultimately could more efficiently handle the traffic. Triple Crown units had to carry road gear over the rails and rail gear over the road.
Great grab bag as always, but I have to be the grammar police that I am...there should not be an apostrophe in "Darwin's". It should just be "Darwins".
When approving a merger the FRA should require the two railroads to put two long distance passenger trains into service as part of the approval process so the public gets a direct benefit from the merger.
@@kennethhanks6712 Then perhaps Amtrak could remove one train and reassign it to a new route? As it is more than one class1 railroad isn't exactly very co-operative with Amtrak. New arrangements could be brokered.
Gonna miss this nightly ritual. I’ll have to find something equally entertaining to fill in the blanks. And not political; my mind has already settled there.
One thing you don’t get from rail grinder videos - the smell! They smell awful - anybody who ever ground metal knows the smell of grinding metal is very unpleasant.
10:38 love the Darwin sign in the clock, they think if they wave everything will be alright lol! Love the videos

Have enjoyed the mornings with Grab bags to start my day. Thank you
Once again; I would like to extend my gratitude to the whole Gang that put together theese rail "JEWELS", that brought so much enjoyment!!
Nice touch putting the Darwin sign on the Ashland clock that group of people are very silly indeed for not looking

I'm just glad to have the grab bags. Thanks!! Nigel from the uk!

New York Life...the quiet railroad.
The flapping tarp might get someone on the hot seat. The Patrick Henry Promotions cars are really expensive to charter.

Love the DARWIN clock!

no freeze frame on the DME hoppers and the 86ft boxcars?

You have to see the grinder operating during the night
It's truly spectacular ✨️
Just so I can do a comparison, rail grinding is basically like a sander refinishing hardwood floors?
Yes, smooths out wear and tear of the track metal which helps with traction
@11:53 not that I liked it, but wasn't there a sign there not too long ago that was just put up?
The Folkston road department considerately relocated it 2 weeks ago.
That was decent of them!

Any idea as to why triple crown stopped running eastbound towards Lexington KY

Is there a documentary on exactly how and why the rail grinders operate? Where?
Comparing the fresh Loram rails to the other track could be a before and after for their advertising.
Is the Lorem car spraying water on the tracks after they have been heated?
See tracks? Think Train!

When approving a merger the FRA should require the two railroads to put two long distance passenger trains into service as part of the approval process so the public gets a direct benefit from the merger.
Believe that would be a violation of the agreements the Fed Gov made with the railroads when Amtrak took over intercity rail passenger services.
