    I took on what I consider to be a very ambitious project for my first attempt. I used a very large art deco inspired lamp base to make design elements to be added to furniture. Because of your video - I had no learning curve and the results were fantastic. Adding the layers of gauze was just priceless and gave the perfect stability to the larger mold.

    My parents have bought me a pretty hearty canister of this stuff; perfect for my lifelong dream, of replicating my favorite molds of littlest pet shop toy to paint over myself, and when I get more advanced, I will try and replicate the gearset and facial features (Upper and lower beak-halves, tongue, eye-whites and eyelids) of a 1998 furby! Hopefully we'll have the supplies to work this out at home! I'd love to try my hand at this!!!! 😄

Sprayed the frog with clear enamel (as I did with a couple of other items I couldn't determine the composition of) . Twice now I have applied a very thin 1st coat to the frog & let it cure completey (for hours!). When I start on the 2nd coat, the first coat dissolves (?) & breaks into stretchy threads. • @ETIVideo
      @ETIVideo  6 років тому +2

      Hi, Mold Builder isn't suitable for pouring thick layers. If it is too thick it will be difficult for it to cure out. If you want to build layers quicker after applying your initial coats you can layer gauze or cheesecloth with each brushed on layer of Mold Builder. This will add bulk and strength to the mold.

Is there anyone who knows this value or who could do such a test? Thank you!

    • @christinejohnson2839
      @christinejohnson2839 3 роки тому

      You really can't approach this from such a rigid formula. It's more subjective than that. Build up your mold using your judgment and not a formula. I ended up using 15 layers on my mold. Plus, I added the gauze to the last two layers of the mold to get the end result I was looking for. What I built from was somewhat larger and I plan to re-use my mold numerous time and wanted it to be extra sturdy. Point being, if I had stopped at "x" number of layers based on some formula - the result would have been different. I had to use my judgment when it was "done" or not. The object I molded was the face of a lamp base. It had sharp ridges and v-shaped troughs which took the mold builder differently. I needed the end product to retain those crisp lines - so I had to start my mold build with that in mind. If you're trying to calculate so you don't buy more than you need to begin with just remember you can always return that extra jar you don't use. Think of it as more of a right brained than left brained undertaking.

      Hi, latex would not be our first choice for fiberglass work. We would recommend EasyMold Liquid Silicone or Putty over latex. You can use latex, however. Keep in mind with latex it's possible that moisture gets trapped within the mold. This could affect the surface of your casting making it sticky. Also, you'll want to use a good mold release with latex or the casting may not separate from the mold. A release is not needed with silicone and moisture would not be an issue.

      The only paint compatible with Mold Builder is acrylic paints. A small amount of acrylic paint can be added to Mold Builder while it is liquid to tint the product prior to application. Painting acrylic paints onto a cured Mold Builder surface does not generally work, as the paint can eventually fall off. Your best bet is to color liquid Mold Builder with acrylic paint when making your mold.

Is that possible with this brand or is this strictly a 2D brush on silicone mold maker?
