    i made a mold and learned a thing i should have already known. if you put your mold away to cure, make sure that you put it on a level surface.
    My mold is usable, but i need to make sure to angle it a bit to make it level.

    Awesome! I'll definitely be trying this! For estimating the volume of your smaller masters, ever considered dumping it in a graduated measuring jar with a known volume of water and measuring the difference in volume after it is submerged? That should give you a quite accurate measurement.

    i have a broken power rangers morper i got on ebay (original mighty morpin) but i dont know what its made out of the coin in the middle sounds hollow with a high sound when you tap it. the silver part the actual morpher has a lower tapping sound and the backing all in black is the lowest sounding. Im assuming the whole thing is black as it seems painted as silver also has some bubbles on the bottom and a bit crudely cast on the sides. The coin has a crack in it and its white so overall im really not sure what's all gone into making it. If punished props can help me out or if anybody else knows it would be VERY appreciated

      You'll probably end up making a lot of brush on molds. I use Rebound 25 silicone for that. You can cast the parts in a variety of resins depending on the qualities you want from the finished pieces. For materials suppliers in the UK, this should help: www.smooth-on.com/distributor-regions/europe/

The thing I’m confused about is that I bought the mold star before and mixed it up but then I realized what can I use for a form of something. For example, I want to create a detailed serving tray but what can I use as a form that the silicone won’t stick to?

    If I want to make a silicone shoe upper, how do I create the cast and the filler for the center of the cast so that I result in just a even silicone layer that I would use for the shoe. I have an idea but if there is a know way, can you explain how? Thanks.

    • @aaiharper
      @aaiharper 7 років тому

      Thanks, useful but doesn't explain how to create a even layer (about 5mm) that is the main shoe design. I am basically trying to establish if I can create a seamless, all in one look, or if I have to use silicone sheets and cut the shoe pattern out and stick/adhere together (which isn't the goal). So essentially, how they make silicon masks, but to make it thicker and more accurate, if there is a way.

      Mold Max 29NV. Any of the silicones with "NV" stand for "no vacuum," I belive. They're less viscous and easier to mix, which also means the bubbles can escape easier. www.smooth-on.com/products/mold-max-29nv/

      +Fel Since it is only going to be in a liquid state for a finite time, you will more than likely destroy your plumbing after the silicone or resin fully cures / hardens. Your best bet is to wait until it's set, peel it out of the container and put it in the trash.
      Another trick is to calculate exactly how much material you need, and use only that amount. This decreases your cost and waste.

      +Bill Doran I'm actually studying medieval English sword play and despite steel plate being the best choice, it's very expensive for the right stuff so I have been looking into modern materials as an alternative. Thank you for the suggestions, I will look into them.

    Quick question... What's your opinion on TKOR's proto puddy as an alternative?

      We've never tried using proto putty. Normal, RTV silicone has always worked perfectly for us.

    So no release agent or baby powder when making the sillicone mold to capture most of the detail? Only use release agent when casting?

      Definitely no baby powder for making the mold - it will be embedded in the silicone. I do frequently use a release agent but in this case didn't really need it, as the buck was quite rigid and unlikely to stick.

      @@punishedprops First cast successful after a few failed attempts, it a small bone like a tube and bigger at the end, added a vent path and used a syringe to slowly pour the resin and eliminate the huge bubble that appeared at the middle which caused it to only cast half of the way.
