    I played one in a guitar store even if i couldnt afford it. I dunno how, but this resonant body was so amazing, just felt the tone through my whole body and the notes were popping out of this guitar so easy , it was awesome

    I hope they go back to these at some point. At the early quality level. The Vintera series doesn’t hold a candle.

    The checking is all from the factory. And they did a great job at it, too. Some of the best checking I've seen.

    Aside from the Road Worn series theres also the old Highway One series which also feature a nitrocellulose finish on them if you’re looking at getting a Fender with a nitro finish without busting the bank. Albeit without relic work from the factory.

    Interesting you mentioned the frets, had same exact problem with mine, and even a few frets that were not seated properly. Easy fix with a few simple tools. Leveled and re-crowned the whole neck. I also blocked the bridge and its a good sounding guitar. Very happy with it now.

    Great review! Just what I was looking for, thank you so much sir!
    I found one of these used and thought about buying it. It's set up by a luthier and goes for about 900-950€ with improved/new electronics (better wires, new 250k pods etc.). A 2011 model to be exact.
    There is another one, I believe it is a Classic Series 60s Lacquer in Fiesta Red. Also nitro finish and roadworn, fretboard is pau ferro. PUs are vintage style and the bridge was replaced with a DiMazio61 which is supposed to be great too. It was hard to find any info on this model, do you know anything about these guitars and their quality? Besides the pickups and the fretboard the specs seem identical and the fiesta red looks stunning as well.
    As far as I know the guitar you own has a synthetic bone nut, not real bone. I could be mistaken.

  • @ryangunwitch-black

    8:26 I’m fairly certain you just have to either remove the pick guard or gouge a little divot in the guard to access the truss rod. No need to pull the whole neck.

    I have a relatively new road worn 50's strat and I too am very happy with it. I think it's both great value and a terrific feel.
    What concoction did you use to darken the wood. I'd like to do the same to mine....

    • @addictedtogear
      @addictedtogear  6 років тому +6

      Put some 000 steel wool into a jar with some vinegar and keep it there until the wool disintegrates. In another jar fill it up with some really strong brewed tea. The darker the better. Then rub the tea solution into the wood and let it dry. Once it is dry rub some of the vinegar and steel wool solution into the same area and watch as it gets dark. Repeat until you are happy with how dark it is.

    Just bought that same polar white 2009 roadworn for 450, Like that these early ones had decent electronics too, cts pots, 5way, and the same texmex p/u set runs $100 alone. I owed a 2021 vintera roadworn strat w maple neck I later returned to GC it was nice, but the neck needed too much fret work, and relic job was light and not near as realistic. I also recently bought a classic 50s series strat from 2018 in gloss lacquer w maple neck. It looks like brand new, but the gloss is pretty darn sticky. The 2009 60s white roadworn (like yours) sounds great and feels right. The relic job looks as real as any custom shop or even a real 60s heavily played model. and at $450 in 2023 is one of my best buys yet. Update: the truss rod is pain though, I had to adjust neck a couple times, then add a shim. Previous owner must've stored this badly I think.

    Hey Tony,
    Very nice review...your excellent commentary and observations inspired me to buy a Road Worn Fender Strat, in Sunburst finish. It feels, sounds and plays even better than you described... I’m so impressed! I’ve had a few Fender Custom Shop guitars, so I wasn’t expecting this level of quality, but dollar-for-dollar you get great bang-for-your buck…at $600 on kijiji... you can’t go wrong. Great guitar and I don’t have to worry about it getting stolen or damaged like the more expensive Custom Shop instruments....very liberating:-)
    Keep up the great reviews!

Wondering if they're discontinued because of the new vintera and original vintage ranges. If anyone could fill me in that would be great, because this has been my dream guitar ever since I played it in the store.

    Tex-Mex pickups are American Standard pickups. With extra windings to make them a little hotter. They matchup great if you put a humbucker in the bridge. Don't understand all the hate they're really good sounding pickups.

    • @STSGuitar16
      @STSGuitar16 5 років тому

      So I have a strat with Tex Mex pups in it and I know they're wound to be hotter than standard pups, but my strat is significantly quieter than my other guitars and really lacks the "hotness" associated with Tex Mex. I have to run my amp hotter and put a compression pedal in front of it just to match the volume and output of my other guitars (Tele, Les Paul, and SG). Obviously the humbucker guitars have higher output than single coils, but even my Tele seems hotter than my strat. It's almost like my experience with Tex Mex has been the exact opposite of what they are supposed to be, why could this be the case for me?

    It’s a lovely guitar, would just like to say, you don’t need to remove the neck to reach the truss rod. You just undo the four screws by about quarter inch and then pull the neck back. You don’t even have to slack the strings. There is a video by fender on UA-cam demonstrating this 👍🏻

    14:00 nitrocellulose does not age nicely. The one advantage that nitrocellulose has is that it allows the wood to resonate more. That impacts the sound slightly. A neutral advantage can be if you prefer the aesthetic of nitrocellulose.
