If you know the lore you would know that Miquella already tried to save Godwyn at Castle Sol but he couldn't, as Miquella is cursed by nascency. Also Radahn is a good guy, he loved his horse so much he learned how to use gravity magic to be able to ride him and he was being used by Miquella during this fight.

Miquella sent Malenia to kill him so his soul would be sent here so Miquella would finally get what he wanted to become a god. I do understand that seeing a base game boss as the final dlc boss could initially be disappointing, but the lore actually does support it. Godwyn's soul was killed. He couldn't have been brought back. And yeah, the entire dlc (and a lot of base game lore) says that Miquella compels love. Bewitches at will. Radahn didn't want this.

Radahn himself loves war confirmed by Fredya. Since a young Miquella calls it a “promised vow”= Radahn seemed to have agree previously hence why Malenia and Radahn fought. Malenia even whispers it to Radahn’s ear when she bloomed. Think he agreed to the “vow” if Radahn loses in battle, which makes more sense for his character. Though considering now he doesn’t even react much to his horse Leonard think current Miquella (who has abandoned his doubts, morality in his quest for trying to make his own delusional “peace”) is compelling him.
@@JoeMama-us2piAll the demigods fought each other during the shattering, it was a full blown war “in which no lord arose.” Radahn couldn’t have agreed to becoming Miquella’s consort had he lost the battle against Malenia, because Malenia straight up tried to kill him and he instead completely lost his mind. The reason why Malenia tried to kill him, as you might’ve guessed it, was because he was unwilling to be Miquella’s consort. It still all worked out for him in the end because even after Malenia fails, we swoop in and unknowingly complete Miquella’s plan. Based on Radahn’s character, he would never agree with Miquella’s agenda. His whole plan was to strip everyone of their free will and live with “love and compassion,” but really that just means everyone would fall under his spell and nothing would actually be… real. That goes against the code of honor Radahn proudly stands by.
@@UceyJuceyJey True though since Radahn himself specifically chose to fight Morgott to try to take the throne it seems to imply he isn’t exactly too honorable. Especially since Morgott unlike the other demigods was protecting the capital and he himself calls Radahn a traitor along with Malenia, Miquella, Ranni and Rykard. If Radahn was completely loyal to the Golden Order, he most deff wouldn’t have chosen to fight Morgott. With one of his soldiers admitting Radahn loves war regardless so unsure on it tbh. The Malenia thing does sound valid tbh though it seems iffy. My guess/theory is that Radahn agreed with Miquella’s vow but either chose to not agree with it after a bit hence why Miquella sent Malenia to fight+ “kill” Radahn or the vow was the battle itself considering Malenia is one of the strongest demigods and the only one to give him a challenge since he loves battle/war in a way. One thing that seems to prove your points is how Leonard tho would be sacrificed if he fully agreed with Miquella’s plan to get to the realm of shadow ngl.
1:19 Radahn learned gravity magic for Leonard, he also hides him under the sand when doing certain attacks. He cared for Leonard even when he was rotting from Scarlet Rot
I actually enjoyed this fight because I wasn't really happy with the base game's Radahn fight. We get told about how Radahn is this powerful, honorable warrior. But when we fight him, the Rot has eaten his brains, and we basically jump him with a bunch of summons. I think this final fight was much more representative of the legend that is Radahn.
I’m fairly sure they chose Radahn partly due to people demanding that, in addition to it closing off a main thread of the base game launch trailer (why the hell Malenia was going after Radahn)

@@seagull3009 That's also not how game development works. Huge shifts in story can happen awfully late in development. Easy example being Dark Souls 3. That game looked entirely different at the start of development, and had its final boss pushed to the middle of the game in favor of a very rushed nostalgia based battle.

While I understand that Godwyn is dead as dead can be I was hoping that through Miquellas meddling he would resurrect Godwyn but he would return as some sort of horrific soulless bastardisation of himself that you and Miquella would have to face down together for the betterment of the realm. Personally while I love the DLC and the boss fight I think with Radahns story having a satisfying conclusion at the Festival it would've been very interesting to get a peek at Godwyn even if it wasn't truly him.

Marika's words in one of the churches implies that it went deeper than that. Marika exiled him and the other Tarnished with the promise that one day she would let them return to 'Brandish the Elden Ring'. So, it wasn't really Marika discarding Godfrey, so much as it was turning him and the Tarnished into her final trump card.
Not so, she created the Tarnished to return one day and finish what she started. They were her desperate final hope. She likely hoped it would be Godfrey, but we took away their last reunion by defeating him :(
Leaving aside the fact that no one expected radahn as the final boss they did an excellent job in the boss fight and the theme is sublime and has become my favorite of the whole game
people really thought Godwyn is gonna be some oh btw GODWYN is now the big baddie of this DLC even tho we didnt mention him whatsoever in the 30-50 h of shadow of the erdtree.. its fucking obvious he is going to be one of the main plotlines of the sequel.. unrealistic expectations ruined this for you.
@ShadeStormXD I mean lorewise. There's a way, if the lands of shadow were used again in some way. Destined death is effectively just what death was before Marika removed it. And before Marika removed it the dead passed through the land of shadows. The reason Godwyn isn't there is because only his soul was killed, not his body to, which logically would be trapping his soul in an in between place. If the power of destined death were used on his body again it would possibly kill him. I say possibly because possibly it needs to be used the same way Ranni used it, only reverse. Godwyn's body is killed, someone else's soul.
I fully understand the reason for not liking this boss, I for one wanted either a completely new boss that we don’t know of or personally wanted godwyn. But I’ve went through old play throughs and listened to all the reasons why you hated this boss and ngl I don’t really see those reasons as actual reasons for hating this boss. Or know how desperate miqualla was to go to such great lengths to just end his life so that he could have him as his consort? Then you later say that having to fight radahn again is different than ishin from sekiro because ishin is a “Bonker” as you say but that isn’t a good reason at all and ngl a weird thing to say. When going into the npc boss fight with Leda you said you didn’t want to fight with ansbach because he was a servant of mohg and you even acknowledged the fact that mohg was charmed but you still stood by it which made me feel like you kinda just ignored the lore on it and not processed it. There are other things that are also not good and weird reasons for hating this boss but this is already too long but however not to get me wrong, I expected godwyn and my hype went down but this was epic anyway.
i honestly loved this boss, the buildup in the cutscene along with the amazing ost which is easily one of my favorite ost's of all time, along with the conclusion feeling of the tarnished going up against the divine, he was hard as hell but i actually enjoyed the challenge

After the spell broke, everyone started killing each other. Miquella did not destroy Radahn. He only did Mogh really bad. And of course St. Trina. How peaceful is that? If Miquella didn't take everyone's free will, we wouldn't be on a quest to destroy him. So Miquella's lust for power and his hatred for freedom is the sole reason why Leda is on a war path against the Tarnished. And it was 100% Miquella who destroyed Radahn. Malenia was sent by Miquella and she destroyed Caelid and Radahn with her Scarlet rot due to her devotion to the misguided Miquella. You're admitting that Miquella "did Mohg bad" (i.e. he planned his death and the separation of body from soul). You're also admitting to him effectively killing St. Trina. Marika being worse than Miquella doesn't make Miquella good. Two wrongs don't make a right.
Radahn mastered the gravity manipulation just cause he was too much heavy for Leonard. He doesn't deserve more cause he received all the love he needs from his owner :)
I honestly never understood people thinking that Godwyn would return. Like, the one significant aspect of him as a character is that he's dead. He was a walking, talking Inciting Incident for the plot. All the messianic talk that surrounds Godwyn as "Death Prince" is leading up to the conception of the Mending Rune of Death. I feel like it would be extremely thematically weird for us to like... beat the shit out of Godwyn's soulless corpse?
For this fight i summoned a guy named "Lisan al gaib", he was naked and using the blood fingerprint stone shield. Easiest fight ever. I will always pray for his good fortune. Long live the fighters
Okay though, So this is really fun, destined death is not super death, it is simply the truth that all things eventually die. Marika removed destined death when she removed the rune of death from the elden ring. This means it was the standard death before her rule, just normal you die and go to the afterlife, not you might eventually die and then are reborn from the erdtree. The lands of shadow is where things passed through after death before Marika removed it. Therefore Godwyn's soul being killed isn't the problem, as that was typical and would still result in things having the ability to be resurrected (the eclipse). The problem was that only his soul died, and because his body lived, it anchors his soul, leaving it trapped in an in between place. This is further supported because if we attack Fia at Fortissax's arena, Godwyn's corpse will shoot death sorceries at us to defend her, there's still some consciousness there, it is just seperated, only able to perceive, and interact through things tied to death, like the death sorceries super common in the lands of shadow. That means he could return in the future. He just needs his Body to truly die so that his soul can enter the lands of shadow, then he'll be able to be given form in the Land of Shadow, not unlike what Miquella did to Radahn with Mohg's body. It either requires destined death be used on his body, or specifically what Ranni did to kill her body and his soul, but killing his body and someone else's soul.
Jesus I’ve never seen anyone hate a character _this_ much but it was pretty funny lol. I haven’t seen you replying to other comments saying this so I’ll say it too: It’s ok if you don’t know any of the lore of Radahn, but your understanding of him as a character is completely skewed. He _loved_ Leonard and Leonard loved him. He studied and learned gravity magic only so Leonard could support him without issues and so he wouldn’t have to abandon his beloved horse. When we fight him on the base game, both he and Leonard are infected with Rot, not because of his actions, but because of Malenia’s decision to nuke an entire country. That’s why Leonard looked so fucked up, not because of Radahn (who was also holding the stars back from falling and causing death) Radahn is beloved by everybody, including his soldiers who see him as an incredibly brave and kind leader, respected by his enemies, and the mightiest demigod to exist. The game goes to great lengths to explain to you that he was a genuinely good guy. While Miquella was loved by all because he charmed them with magic, Radahn was loved by all because he was a good person. There’s a huge difference. And he’s not Miquella’s consort by choice. He was revived against his will and magically charmed to be compliant. This is literally an unwilling and toxic relationship. Also Radahn never _abandoned_ Leonard. YOU killed them both. Miquella revived Radahn and did not revive Leonard, that was not Radahn’s fault. To each their own, don’t ger me wrong, just dropping some lore for you or anyone who might care
Tbh, if they made Godwyn the final boss instead of Radahn I would be mad because they would've destroyed the whole concept of destined death and how dangerous it is. Godwyn's soul is fucking GONE. Completely erased. So Miquella settle for the next best thing. I also saw someone talking about Consort Radahn being a prophecy of the Hornsent, since they worship a horned lion, and Radahn is the lion, who now has horns. My speculation is, what If Miquella chose specifically Mohg's body and not another's, just to fulfill said prophecy? Maybe he wants the tower folk to support him in his new age ,and as a way to show them his will to redeem his mother's sin against them, so he made his lord fulfil one of their prophecies. It's a stretch but it makes sense.
Destined death isn't super death, it is just what standard death was before Marika removed the rune of death, back when things died naturally and passed through the lands of shadow on the way to the after life. We can infer that for proper death both the soul and body must die. Godwyn's body anchors his soul, leaving his soul trapped, unable to control his body, but unable to leave, we know there is still stuff going on there because he casts death sorceries to defend fia (which also shows how connected his soul is to the lands of shadow now despite it's seperation) Ranni on the other hand killed her body but left her soul alive so she didn't pass on to the lands between and could control a separate body. Godwyn's state and current inability to return is not because his soul is dead but because his body isn't. The problem is people in his world that could act on this to save him or at least give him a true death don't actually know what's wrong. Most lived in a post Marika age with no access to destined death.
Radahn agreed back then. We don't know if he was charmed by Miquella already when he agreed, but we know Radahn's real soul came back in the second phase of Promised Consort Radahn Boss fight.

Radahn loved Leonard so much he literally learned gravity to not have to abandon him, And he consciously buries Leonard Everytime he attacks with an AoE ability, and Radahn has been through more hell than literally anyone in the game, and that's Radahn in Mohgs body, and his mom is his dad. Please stop making a mockery of this Masterpiece.

Radahn literally still took care of his horse for the most part even when he was poisoned by the rot. Malenia(and Miquella) should be the one blamed for how Leonard ended up if you're going to go from that angle.
At the very end of your ER journey you got something you do not like (Mogh, Radahn and Miquella all at the same time) Even then you persevered and beat them in the most honest and classic R1 and roll playstyle. That was really great to watch, congrats gamer.
I love this fight! The TRAGEDY behind Miquella's desitions, is key for understand why is Radahn here. She is willing to sacrifice everything and everyone for his selfishness.
I mean I don't actively dislike the fight and the lore is whatever but I'm kind of mad that it didn't really connect at all to the base game. Like the only real connection between Miquella and Radahn was the battle between him and Malenia, and whatever she said to him could've been literally anything up until the dlc release lol. Idk it felt a bit out of the blue when Miquella had more base game ties to Godwyn, and yeah yeah I know Godwyn is *dead* dead but you're telling me Miquella couldn't have wanted to re-try the eclipse thing after his own ascendance at the gate of divinity, failed because Godwyn's soul is gone (and the failure fits his curse of nascence well) and resurrected something twisted? I don't know what that would look like but I really did just want a new face as the final boss I can't help but still be slightly disappointed.
There were plenty of hints in the base game that this could happen. It was planned by Miquella all along. In the trailer were you could see Malenia and Radahn fight, Malenia told Radahn smth right before her Aeonia. "Miquella awaits you" or smth like that.

Imo, miquella probably wanted godwyn to be his consort/elden lord but when he died he tried to just become powerful on his w the haligtree/was kidnapped/etc. So not really sure why radahn himself was chosen. It maybe he figured having a brother be consort would be powerful and his next best option was radahn since he was supposedly more loyal to the golden lineage

When both of them became free, Morgott defended the capital against everyone who wanted to claim the throne, Radahn included. That make him one of the strongest below Mohg, wich had the power to fully control the power of an outer god. Not to mention that both of them captured the Three Fingers and the flame of frenzy. Radahn was the strongest demigod of those who were known their existence
we are talking about mikela the kind, the one who knows how to bewitch people, including his sister milenia. There is a high chance that Radahn was desperately trying to survive in his festival, in order to avoid getting to the shadow lands, he had no choice. By the way, Mikela's enchantment is strong indeed if she is able to make him fight without Leonard, i believe you really fail to grasp Radanhs affection for Leonard.
It's interesting how much opinions on the Radahn fight have changed since the early days of the DLC. Well, at least, those who stuck it out and learned all his flaws as I just watched Youwy do a challenge run and beat Radahn only with dancing blade skill and another guy parrying all of Radahn's attacks. Apparently, standing close, directly in front of the Promised Consort reduces the odds of him using his bigger, wilder attacks and favors his more predictable combo that can be timed for dodges or parries. Guess I shouldn't be surprised that, given enough time, there are now people making sport of Radahn and see it as a good fight 😂
I think it's got really good foundations and there are just a couple of things that let it down - for me those are the left-right-cross slash combo that's still a frame trap and the general visual noise in phase 2 combined with Miquella's desperate need of a haircut making it hard to read the next attack that's coming. After a lot of time in co-op nothing else really bothers me as much except for his whack ass target swapping (but that's not going to bother anybody unless they summon lol).
I've somewhat come to terms with Radahn being the final boss, but I was really disappointed with it as well, but not really because of Godwyn like many people, because I dunno, but something told me that I shouldn't have expected much of Godwyn in the DLC and I was right. I guess I already got the vibes that Godwyn was a done concept and they wouldn't want to bring him back. That's a bummer, but my expectations were pretty much 0. For one side, I think it's cool that they've expanded Radahn's lore and made me realize he wasn't really as fleshed out as a character and as a presence in the overall lore as I thought he was, but I still think that even with that he really didn't need that treatment that much. I'm of the group that enjoyed the boss, but I would rather have had a new character entirely or just Miquella as the boss.
I don't understand everyone's dissatisfaction on this. 1) FromSoft always leaves you with more questions than answers. 2) Yes, it's Radahn reborn, but with Mohg's soul. Ansbach tells you this directly, and it opens up so much speculation. Did Miquie manipulate Malenia to attack Radahn, to use his body? Did Miquie manipulate Mohg to enter the Shadow Realm and ascend the Tower to the Divine gate? Miquella was no more honorable than his brethren, he just employed kindness as his weapon. All the more interesting, I say.
I think He charmed Malenia too... u can see the lore in Radahn DLC suit: ~The golden helm worn by Radahn in his younger years. Proudly displaying his heroic red hair, it is fitting attire for a lion. When Malenia, Blade of Miquella, let the rotflower blossom in Aeonia, Radahn heard a murmur in his ear- "Miquella awaits thee, O promised consort."~

Radahn asked to fight malenia because he wanted to die in battle, Freyja told us miquella and radahn did a vow and malenia was waiting for his return as a god in the haligtree after fighting radahn. Wow, you complained a lot during that fight. There is nothing wrong with repeat bosses and I'm tired of gamers complaining about so. Only a fraction of players understand how goddamn legendary Promised Consort Radahn is and to call him a repeat boss from "base game" is just not fair
Marika is just a vengeful, heartbroken soul. Meanwhile, Miguella is a soul that pretends to be good and innocent, but is deep-down a bit sadistic. Marika would never want to hurt anyone, but since the people treated her the way they did, she wants to make them regret taking advantage of her. Meanwhile, Miguella just wants to see the world under his control.
Malenia was taken by the god of rot and there will be a conflict between them , and miquella made that needl for her as you know , and the only way to active the needl in farum azula in dragonslord area ,i dont know why she doesn’t use it , but i think she didnt use it cuz too late already she become the goddess of rot , so that needl become like control tool to bloom or not , and that give us what millicent did in her quest if we help her or betray her ( expectations near to accept )

After the arriving of Miquella and the spell towards mohg, the dinasty needed blood to feed Miquella's body, and to do that, Mohg needed blood from other creatures. With that, the creation of the murder cult was made

Having perfected the craft she melded herself with Radagon in the hopes that she would gain his capacity for love, his strenght, and his belief, only to find out that while flesh melds, spirits do not. Her shaman blood flowed in Rykard and even poor Godrick.

It was her honest reaction. Take a look at her Messmer reaction and see how much she enjoys it compared to most streamers that are just yelling and raging. I'd rather see her honest reaction than a fake positive one, this fight wasn't for everyone.

I'm just checking these reacts before watching the full streams, but man, we had completely different expectations on the final boss, lol. I have no idea where people got the Godwyn possibility from. Nothing in the playthrough even hints that Godwyn can be involved in the DLC. I guess it was just wishful thinking overriding logic I get it, I would've liked to see Godwyn explored, but he wasn't in any of the trailers and he wasn't talked about at all by any NPC, so I figured he's just not gonna make an appearance. EDIT: Ok my dumbass completely blanked out on the catacombs and the Death Knights. So, there IS mention of Godwyn in the DLC. But again, that doesn't change much. They expanded a little bit on his lore, but did not hint at him coming back at all.
I too wish this would have been Godwyn. I know lore-wise bringing Godwyn back is impossible in a resurective sense, but even if Miquellas soul was to inhabit Godwyns body, soul of an empyrean, body of a lord type deal. Or just someone completely new… Idk it was like a B- fight, A+ music. Not bad, but wish the DLC ended with more of a bang! Still stellar DLC overall
That wouldn't make sense gameplaywise. As you can do the dlc before ever even seeing godwyns deformed body. Where would it be if we fight it in the dlc?

We know that a body can drastically change appearance once a different soul inhabits it (look at Radahn in Mohgs body) maybe Miquela could use one of Godwyns body off shoots in the land of shadows. Or Miquela could have taken a Relic (piece) of Godwyns corpse to grow his own cadaver by burning it at the roots closest to the Shadow Tree. Not saying it would be perfect, but it would have been nice to at least see the demigod we only ever heard about. Also would have been nice if the final boss weapons weren’t Radahn Swords 2.0
If you know the lore you would know that it wouldn't make any sense, he tried to resurrect him already and failed because Miquella's curse is nascency. Godwyn is just a cancer rn and all it will do is resurrect the dead by infesting everything with deathroot.

I understand that for what Im asking, plot and facts would need to change. What I suggest is a hypothetical that didn’t happen, so of course it wont make sense in the canon lore. I am merely saying what I wish could have happened, that doesn’t mean that I have found a way to perfectly fuse it in with the current canon lore. In my opinion, this boss is just getting that Melania treatment right now. People hate him because he’s too hard but in a few months, well in this case a few weeks people are already posting thousands of no hit runs. Me personally I like boss the only BS things, I can say about it is the triple slash combo. Edit: To clarify this I’m not saying that this boss is perfect, all I’m saying is people will learn how to fight this boss eventually. I’m not calling anyone bad at the game, if you can’t beat this boss as an amputee and crippled. I got stomped by this boss for five days straight I just kept coming back, with my fath/Dex build never resorting to anything else except, buffs and most importantly the deflecting crystal tear. With those two things alone it gave me enough time to learn, how to dodge his attacks while getting to his second phase consistently, I kept getting better and better until I’m able to finally slay this menace.
Finally beat this boss. Its a hectic fight. And although it was coear prwtty earpy on (thanks to ansbach) that radahn is there in moghs body, I was glad to see a semi prime Radahn. What I did NOT like was, that Radahn got brainwashed by that little evil twink with a thing for one of his older brothers (eww) and the whole issue with "I cant see shit" I also hoped that I Radahn would talk and not be a puppet. Radahn is a sweet guy (he learned gravity magic just for Leonard) and a muscle boy himbo. So he and all the other demigods who got brainwashed deserved better (including mogh and Malenia) Im light sensitive as well, so getting those blasts of light in your eyes all the time was pain. The frame drops alao were annoying, but manageable. The laser eye surgery was not. Oh and some of his moves are very disgusting and borderline unfair. The music was god tho. Miquella on the other hand was not.
Sometimes it’s not about that. It’s more about beating the boss with the build you chose, with the play style of your preference, but people also shouldn’t cry about people who do use a shield. Sure it’s harder to avoid all his craziness rather than dodge them. But when you do get it right, you feel like a god yourself.
For some people like myself brute forcing a boss isn't that fun. I won't judge anyone else for doing it, but I prefer to understand their move set so I can play through the game with less powerful characters.
I beat Radahn and Miquella using the backhand blades with the ash of war blind spot. Really fun to fight them with that and timing their attacks with the ash of war to dodge and deal damage
for me, the point isnt really somehow just beating the boss, i try to make it look as stylish as i can, kinda like the fight is not gameplay but rather a well choreographed cutscene lol
Marika (aka the God of the Lands Between) literally caused the Disgregation because they killed her son Godwyn and she couldn’t save him.. and now you’re telling me Miquella, who always failed in everything he ever did, was supposed to bring Godwyn back? That wouldn’t make any sense storywise, it would’ve been fanservice, as much as I would’ve loved it, it just doesn’t make any sense why Godwyn should’ve been here, Radahn is much more appropriate and makes more sense storywise
i was equally disappointed with Radahn 2.0 :( The one thing it did was context for the fight between him and Malenia. But other than that, we all wanted Golden Boy Godwyn... I just watched the entire vid. Your commentary throughout the entire thing was gold, especially including the spite for him :D
I don't think I was as disappointed as you were when Radahn stood there. I don't hate the guy. But I feel like this was supposed to be a shock moment and fanservice because noone could've possibly predicted his return. It felt kinda underwhelming to me though.
Just found out about your channel through a recommendation comment on one of Jacksepticeye’s Elden Ring DLC videos. Love that you really try to get into the lore of the game. I hated this Boss for basically the same reasons, not just because it was a very boring decision but also I hated the fight. Very good DLC with a very mid final boss.
The similarities between miquella and surash make me wonder, if surash was indeed the god of storms or what have you, and he ascended in a similar manner. Maybe Godfrey wasn’t his consort, but perhaps took him upon his back at marika’s request. Maybe he (surash) was enslaved by marika as a means to control his former power and influence.
While I understand that Godwyn is dead as dead can be I was hoping that through Miquellas meddling he would resurrect Godwyn but he would return as some sort of horrific soulless bastardisation of himself that you and Miquella would have to face down together for the betterment of the realm. Personally while I love the DLC and the boss fight I think with Radahns story having a satisfying conclusion at the Festival it would've been very interesting to get a peek at Godwyn even if it wasn't truly him. Also Leonard lived for Radahn and Radahn for him, he wouldn't have wanted to be anywhere else.

I honestly can't believe it's not Godwyn. Not even for lore or theory reasons, just because it would've easily been the hypest decision. He's the only demigod we know about but don't get to fight. I would've been ECSTATIC. Especially if we got to discover that Godwyn wasn't as golden as he seemed, would've been so, so much more motivating. Even if the fight had been just as hard.
I even like radahn and I wasn’t happy to see him again, his story was so done already. Godwyn wouldn’t make sense either but usually fromsoft kills it with an out-of-nowhere boss. Hell even the “secret” boss of ac6 hyped me way more than this
This boss kinda sucks because compared to the other bosses in this DLC and especially the base game, the skill expression is EXTREMELY limited. Yeah you can fight him with every weapon, but there are very few ways to dodge or do something interesting with the weapons/resources you have. This is the only boss that actually aligns with the general complaints about ER bosses which are wonky/unfun punish windows and combos that are too long. There are some interesting things you can do to bait out certain moves and some fun moves to dodge but the general rhythm of the fight is just not fun for me.

Miquella sent Malenia to kill him so his soul would be sent here so Miquella would finally get what he wanted to become a god. He couldn't have been brought back. And yeah, the entire dlc (and a lot of base game lore) says that Miquella compels love. Bewitches at will. Radahn didn't want this.

Radahn himself loves war confirmed by Fredya. Since a young Miquella calls it a “promised vow”= Radahn seemed to have agree previously hence why Malenia and Radahn fought. Malenia even whispers it to Radahn’s ear when she bloomed. Think he agreed to the “vow” if Radahn loses in battle, which makes more sense for his character.
Though considering now he doesn’t even react much to his horse Leonard think current Miquella (who has abandoned his doubts, morality in his quest for trying to make his own delusional “peace”) is compelling him.

The reason why Malenia tried to kill him, as you might’ve guessed it, was because he was unwilling to be Miquella’s consort. It still all worked out for him in the end because even after Malenia fails, we swoop in and unknowingly complete Miquella’s plan. Based on Radahn’s character, he would never agree with Miquella’s agenda. His whole plan was to strip everyone of their free will and live with “love and compassion,” but really that just means everyone would fall under his spell and nothing would actually be… real. That goes against the code of honor Radahn proudly stands by.

If Radahn was completely loyal to the Golden Order, he most deff wouldn’t have chosen to fight Morgott. With one of his soldiers admitting Radahn loves war regardless so unsure on it tbh.
The Malenia thing does sound valid tbh though it seems iffy. My guess/theory is that Radahn agreed with Miquella’s vow but either chose to not agree with it after a bit hence why Miquella sent Malenia to fight+ “kill” Radahn or the vow was the battle itself considering Malenia is one of the strongest demigods and the only one to give him a challenge since he loves battle/war in a way.
One thing that seems to prove your points is how Leonard tho would be sacrificed if he fully agreed with Miquella’s plan to get to the realm of shadow ngl.
1:19 Radahn learned gravity magic for Leonard, he also hides him under the sand when doing certain attacks. He cared for Leonard even when he was rotting from Scarlet Rot
I actually enjoyed this fight because I wasn't really happy with the base game's Radahn fight. We get told about how Radahn is this powerful, honorable warrior. But when we fight him, the Rot has eaten his brains, and we basically jump him with a bunch of summons.
I think this final fight was much more representative of the legend that is Radahn.
I’m fairly sure they chose Radahn partly due to people demanding that, in addition to it closing off a main thread of the base game launch trailer (why the hell Malenia was going after Radahn)

That game looked entirely different at the start of development, and had its final boss pushed to the middle of the game in favor of a very rushed nostalgia based battle.

Godfrey didnt left Marika, she banished him because he was no longer usefull.
Marika's words in one of the churches implies that it went deeper than that. Marika exiled him and the other Tarnished with the promise that one day she would let them return to 'Brandish the Elden Ring'.
So, it wasn't really Marika discarding Godfrey, so much as it was turning him and the Tarnished into her final trump card.
Not so, she created the Tarnished to return one day and finish what she started. They were her desperate final hope. She likely hoped it would be Godfrey, but we took away their last reunion by defeating him :(
Leaving aside the fact that no one expected radahn as the final boss they did an excellent job in the boss fight and the theme is sublime and has become my favorite of the whole game
people really thought Godwyn is gonna be some oh btw GODWYN is now the big baddie of this DLC even tho we didnt mention him whatsoever in the 30-50 h of shadow of the erdtree.. its fucking obvious he is going to be one of the main plotlines of the sequel.. unrealistic expectations ruined this for you.

@ShadeStormXD I mean lorewise. There's a way, if the lands of shadow were used again in some way. Destined death is effectively just what death was before Marika removed it. And before Marika removed it the dead passed through the land of shadows. The reason Godwyn isn't there is because only his soul was killed, not his body to, which logically would be trapping his soul in an in between place. If the power of destined death were used on his body again it would possibly kill him. I say possibly because possibly it needs to be used the same way Ranni used it, only reverse. Godwyn's body is killed, someone else's soul.
I fully understand the reason for not liking this boss, I for one wanted either a completely new boss that we don’t know of or personally wanted godwyn.

When going into the npc boss fight with Leda you said you didn’t want to fight with ansbach because he was a servant of mohg and you even acknowledged the fact that mohg was charmed but you still stood by it which made me feel like you kinda just ignored the lore on it and not processed it.
There are other things that are also not good and weird reasons for hating this boss but this is already too long but however not to get me wrong, I expected godwyn and my hype went down but this was epic anyway.

So Miquella's lust for power and his hatred for freedom is the sole reason why Leda is on a war path against the Tarnished.
And it was 100% Miquella who destroyed Radahn. Malenia was sent by Miquella and she destroyed Caelid and Radahn with her Scarlet rot due to her devotion to the misguided Miquella.

I honestly never understood people thinking that Godwyn would return. Like, the one significant aspect of him as a character is that he's dead. He was a walking, talking Inciting Incident for the plot. All the messianic talk that surrounds Godwyn as "Death Prince" is leading up to the conception of the Mending Rune of Death. I feel like it would be extremely thematically weird for us to like... beat the shit out of Godwyn's soulless corpse?
General Radahn being the Final Boss is the best decision they made

Okay though, So this is really fun, destined death is not super death, it is simply the truth that all things eventually die. Marika removed destined death when she removed the rune of death from the elden ring. This means it was the standard death before her rule, just normal you die and go to the afterlife, not you might eventually die and then are reborn from the erdtree. The lands of shadow is where things passed through after death before Marika removed it. Therefore Godwyn's soul being killed isn't the problem, as that was typical and would still result in things having the ability to be resurrected (the eclipse). The problem was that only his soul died, and because his body lived, it anchors his soul, leaving it trapped in an in between place. This is further supported because if we attack Fia at Fortissax's arena, Godwyn's corpse will shoot death sorceries at us to defend her, there's still some consciousness there, it is just seperated, only able to perceive, and interact through things tied to death, like the death sorceries super common in the lands of shadow. That means he could return in the future. He just needs his Body to truly die so that his soul can enter the lands of shadow, then he'll be able to be given form in the Land of Shadow, not unlike what Miquella did to Radahn with Mohg's body. It either requires destined death be used on his body, or specifically what Ranni did to kill her body and his soul, but killing his body and someone else's soul.

I haven’t seen you replying to other comments saying this so I’ll say it too: It’s ok if you don’t know any of the lore of Radahn, but your understanding of him as a character is completely skewed.
He _loved_ Leonard and Leonard loved him. He studied and learned gravity magic only so Leonard could support him without issues and so he wouldn’t have to abandon his beloved horse.
When we fight him on the base game, both he and Leonard are infected with Rot, not because of his actions, but because of Malenia’s decision to nuke an entire country. That’s why Leonard looked so fucked up, not because of Radahn (who was also holding the stars back from falling and causing death)
Radahn is beloved by everybody, including his soldiers who see him as an incredibly brave and kind leader, respected by his enemies, and the mightiest demigod to exist. The game goes to great lengths to explain to you that he was a genuinely good guy.
While Miquella was loved by all because he charmed them with magic, Radahn was loved by all because he was a good person. There’s a huge difference.
And he’s not Miquella’s consort by choice. He was revived against his will and magically charmed to be compliant. This is literally an unwilling and toxic relationship.
Also Radahn never _abandoned_ Leonard. YOU killed them both. Miquella revived Radahn and did not revive Leonard, that was not Radahn’s fault.

Tbh, if they made Godwyn the final boss instead of Radahn I would be mad because they would've destroyed the whole concept of destined death and how dangerous it is. Godwyn's soul is fucking GONE. Completely erased. So Miquella settle for the next best thing.
I also saw someone talking about Consort Radahn being a prophecy of the Hornsent, since they worship a horned lion, and Radahn is the lion, who now has horns.
My speculation is, what If Miquella chose specifically Mohg's body and not another's, just to fulfill said prophecy? Maybe he wants the tower folk to support him in his new age ,and as a way to show them his will to redeem his mother's sin against them, so he made his lord fulfil one of their prophecies.
It's a stretch but it makes sense.
Destined death isn't super death, it is just what standard death was before Marika removed the rune of death, back when things died naturally and passed through the lands of shadow on the way to the after life. We can infer that for proper death both the soul and body must die. Godwyn's body anchors his soul, leaving his soul trapped, unable to control his body, but unable to leave, we know there is still stuff going on there because he casts death sorceries to defend fia (which also shows how connected his soul is to the lands of shadow now despite it's seperation) Ranni on the other hand killed her body but left her soul alive so she didn't pass on to the lands between and could control a separate body. Godwyn's state and current inability to return is not because his soul is dead but because his body isn't. The problem is people in his world that could act on this to save him or at least give him a true death don't actually know what's wrong. Most lived in a post Marika age with no access to destined death.
Redahn is possessed. So was everyone else. Miquella is a charmer.

Radahn literally still took care of his horse for the most part even when he was poisoned by the rot. Malenia(and Miquella) should be the one blamed for how Leonard ended up if you're going to go from that angle.

I mean I don't actively dislike the fight and the lore is whatever but I'm kind of mad that it didn't really connect at all to the base game. Like the only real connection between Miquella and Radahn was the battle between him and Malenia, and whatever she said to him could've been literally anything up until the dlc release lol.
Idk it felt a bit out of the blue when Miquella had more base game ties to Godwyn, and yeah yeah I know Godwyn is *dead* dead but you're telling me Miquella couldn't have wanted to re-try the eclipse thing after his own ascendance at the gate of divinity, failed because Godwyn's soul is gone (and the failure fits his curse of nascence well) and resurrected something twisted? I don't know what that would look like but I really did just want a new face as the final boss I can't help but still be slightly disappointed.

There were plenty of hints in the base game that this could happen. It was planned by Miquella all along. In the trailer were you could see Malenia and Radahn fight, Malenia told Radahn smth right before her Aeonia. "Miquella awaits you" or smth like that.

I personally loved this boss.
Imo, miquella probably wanted godwyn to be his consort/elden lord but when he died he tried to just become powerful on his w the haligtree/was kidnapped/etc.
So not really sure why radahn himself was chosen. It maybe he figured having a brother be consort would be powerful and his next best option was radahn since he was supposedly more loyal to the golden lineage
Miquella as far as I know wanted Godwyn death. And he got kidnapped because he wanted to be kidnapped

When both of them became free, Morgott defended the capital against everyone who wanted to claim the throne, Radahn included. That make him one of the strongest below Mohg, wich had the power to fully control the power of an outer god.
Not to mention that both of them captured the Three Fingers and the flame of frenzy.

we are talking about mikela the kind, the one who knows how to bewitch people, including his sister milenia. There is a high chance that Radahn was desperately trying to survive in his festival, in order to avoid getting to the shadow lands, he had no choice. By the way, Mikela's enchantment is strong indeed if she is able to make him fight without Leonard, i believe you really fail to grasp Radanhs affection for Leonard.
It's interesting how much opinions on the Radahn fight have changed since the early days of the DLC. Well, at least, those who stuck it out and learned all his flaws as I just watched Youwy do a challenge run and beat Radahn only with dancing blade skill and another guy parrying all of Radahn's attacks.
Apparently, standing close, directly in front of the Promised Consort reduces the odds of him using his bigger, wilder attacks and favors his more predictable combo that can be timed for dodges or parries.
Guess I shouldn't be surprised that, given enough time, there are now people making sport of Radahn and see it as a good fight 😂
I think it's got really good foundations and there are just a couple of things that let it down - for me those are the left-right-cross slash combo that's still a frame trap and the general visual noise in phase 2 combined with Miquella's desperate need of a haircut making it hard to read the next attack that's coming. After a lot of time in co-op nothing else really bothers me as much except for his whack ass target swapping (but that's not going to bother anybody unless they summon lol).
after beating him three times now, he's become my second favorite boss of the dlc.

I've somewhat come to terms with Radahn being the final boss, but I was really disappointed with it as well, but not really because of Godwyn like many people, because I dunno, but something told me that I shouldn't have expected much of Godwyn in the DLC and I was right. I guess I already got the vibes that Godwyn was a done concept and they wouldn't want to bring him back. That's a bummer, but my expectations were pretty much 0.
For one side, I think it's cool that they've expanded Radahn's lore and made me realize he wasn't really as fleshed out as a character and as a presence in the overall lore as I thought he was, but I still think that even with that he really didn't need that treatment that much. I'm of the group that enjoyed the boss, but I would rather have had a new character entirely or just Miquella as the boss.
I don't understand everyone's dissatisfaction on this.
1) FromSoft always leaves you with more questions than answers.
2) Yes, it's Radahn reborn, but with Mohg's soul. Ansbach tells you this directly, and it opens up so much speculation.
Did Miquie manipulate Malenia to attack Radahn, to use his body?
Did Miquie manipulate Mohg to enter the Shadow Realm and ascend the Tower to the Divine gate?
Miquella was no more honorable than his brethren, he just employed kindness as his weapon. All the more interesting, I say.

Wow, you complained a lot during that fight. There is nothing wrong with repeat bosses and I'm tired of gamers complaining about so. Only a fraction of players understand how goddamn legendary Promised Consort Radahn is and to call him a repeat boss from "base game" is just not fair
Marika is just a vengeful, heartbroken soul. Meanwhile, Miguella is a soul that pretends to be good and innocent, but is deep-down a bit sadistic. Marika would never want to hurt anyone, but since the people treated her the way they did, she wants to make them regret taking advantage of her. Meanwhile, Miguella just wants to see the world under his control.
Malenia was taken by the god of rot and there will be a conflict between them , and miquella made that needl for her as you know , and the only way to active the needl in farum azula in dragonslord area ,i dont know why she doesn’t use it , but i think she didnt use it cuz too late already she become the goddess of rot , so that needl become like control tool to bloom or not , and that give us what millicent did in her quest if we help her or betray her ( expectations near to accept )

After the arriving of Miquella and the spell towards mohg, the dinasty needed blood to feed Miquella's body, and to do that, Mohg needed blood from other creatures. With that, the creation of the murder cult was made

I'm just checking these reacts before watching the full streams, but man, we had completely different expectations on the final boss, lol. I have no idea where people got the Godwyn possibility from. Nothing in the playthrough even hints that Godwyn can be involved in the DLC. I guess it was just wishful thinking overriding logic
I get it, I would've liked to see Godwyn explored, but he wasn't in any of the trailers and he wasn't talked about at all by any NPC, so I figured he's just not gonna make an appearance.
EDIT: Ok my dumbass completely blanked out on the catacombs and the Death Knights. So, there IS mention of Godwyn in the DLC. But again, that doesn't change much. They expanded a little bit on his lore, but did not hint at him coming back at all.

I too wish this would have been Godwyn. I know lore-wise bringing Godwyn back is impossible in a resurective sense, but even if Miquellas soul was to inhabit Godwyns body, soul of an empyrean, body of a lord type deal. Or just someone completely new… Idk it was like a B- fight, A+ music. Not bad, but wish the DLC ended with more of a bang! Still stellar DLC overall
That wouldn't make sense gameplaywise. As you can do the dlc before ever even seeing godwyns deformed body. Where would it be if we fight it in the dlc?

We know that a body can drastically change appearance once a different soul inhabits it (look at Radahn in Mohgs body) maybe Miquela could use one of Godwyns body off shoots in the land of shadows. Or Miquela could have taken a Relic (piece) of Godwyns corpse to grow his own cadaver by burning it at the roots closest to the Shadow Tree.
Not saying it would be perfect, but it would have been nice to at least see the demigod we only ever heard about. Also would have been nice if the final boss weapons weren’t Radahn Swords 2.0
If you know the lore you would know that it wouldn't make any sense, he tried to resurrect him already and failed because Miquella's curse is nascency. Godwyn is just a cancer rn and all it will do is resurrect the dead by infesting everything with deathroot.

I understand that for what Im asking, plot and facts would need to change. What I suggest is a hypothetical that didn’t happen, so of course it wont make sense in the canon lore.
I am merely saying what I wish could have happened, that doesn’t mean that I have found a way to perfectly fuse it in with the current canon lore. Attempt to argue logic against wishful thinking will get both of us nowhere really fast.

In my opinion, this boss is just getting that Melania treatment right now. People hate him because he’s too hard but in a few months, well in this case a few weeks people are already posting thousands of no hit runs.
Me personally I like boss the only BS things, I can say about it is the triple slash combo.
Edit: To clarify this I’m not saying that this boss is perfect, all I’m saying is people will learn how to fight this boss eventually. I’m not calling anyone bad at the game, if you can’t beat this boss as an amputee and crippled. I got stomped by this boss for five days straight I just kept coming back, with my fath/Dex build never resorting to anything else except, buffs and most importantly the deflecting crystal tear. With those two things alone it gave me enough time to learn, how to dodge his attacks while getting to his second phase consistently, I kept getting better and better until I’m able to finally slay this menace.
I defeated Radahn in 66 attempts. He's not too hard, he's just not fun.

Finally beat this boss. Its a hectic fight. And although it was coear prwtty earpy on (thanks to ansbach) that radahn is there in moghs body, I was glad to see a semi prime Radahn.
What I did NOT like was, that Radahn got brainwashed by that little evil twink with a thing for one of his older brothers (eww) and the whole issue with "I cant see shit"
I also hoped that I Radahn would talk and not be a puppet. Radahn is a sweet guy (he learned gravity magic just for Leonard) and a muscle boy himbo. So he and all the other demigods who got brainwashed deserved better (including mogh and Malenia)
Im light sensitive as well, so getting those blasts of light in your eyes all the time was pain. The frame drops alao were annoying, but manageable. The laser eye surgery was not. Oh and some of his moves are very disgusting and borderline unfair.
The music was god tho. Miquella on the other hand was not.
Peoples refusal to use shields, makes this fight 5 times harder. Dunno if it's hardheadiness or testament to learning every move and dodging them...
Sometimes it’s not about that. It’s more about beating the boss with the build you chose, with the play style of your preference, but people also shouldn’t cry about people who do use a shield. Sure it’s harder to avoid all his craziness rather than dodge them. But when you do get it right, you feel like a god yourself.
For some people like myself brute forcing a boss isn't that fun. I won't judge anyone else for doing it, but I prefer to understand their move set so I can play through the game with less powerful characters.
I beat Radahn and Miquella using the backhand blades with the ash of war blind spot. Really fun to fight them with that and timing their attacks with the ash of war to dodge and deal damage
for me, the point isnt really somehow just beating the boss, i try to make it look as stylish as i can, kinda like the fight is not gameplay but rather a well choreographed cutscene lol

Marika (aka the God of the Lands Between) literally caused the Disgregation because they killed her son Godwyn and she couldn’t save him.. and now you’re telling me Miquella, who always failed in everything he ever did, was supposed to bring Godwyn back? That wouldn’t make any sense storywise, it would’ve been fanservice, as much as I would’ve loved it, it just doesn’t make any sense why Godwyn should’ve been here, Radahn is much more appropriate and makes more sense storywise
The fight is stunning(when it doesnt tank your frames) but fromsoft could have done so much better than a worse twin princes fight for the end.

Just found out about your channel through a recommendation comment on one of Jacksepticeye’s Elden Ring DLC videos. Love that you really try to get into the lore of the game. Which is so rare in UA-cam Let’s plays of it. I will definitely have to watch the full series at some point. But for now I am watching through your Reactions of the bosses.
I hated this Boss for basically the same reasons, not just because it was a very boring decision but also I hated the fight.
Very good DLC with a very mid final boss.
The similarities between miquella and surash make me wonder, if surash was indeed the god of storms or what have you, and he ascended in a similar manner. Maybe Godfrey wasn’t his consort, but perhaps took him upon his back at marika’s request. Maybe he (surash) was enslaved by marika as a means to control his former power and influence.
While I understand that Godwyn is dead as dead can be I was hoping that through Miquellas meddling he would resurrect Godwyn but he would return as some sort of horrific soulless bastardisation of himself that you and Miquella would have to face down together for the betterment of the realm. Personally while I love the DLC and the boss fight I think with Radahns story having a satisfying conclusion at the Festival it would've been very interesting to get a peek at Godwyn even if it wasn't truly him. Also Leonard lived for Radahn and Radahn for him, he wouldn't have wanted to be anywhere else.

I honestly can't believe it's not Godwyn. Not even for lore or theory reasons, just because it would've easily been the hypest decision. He's the only demigod we know about but don't get to fight. I would've been ECSTATIC. Especially if we got to discover that Godwyn wasn't as golden as he seemed, would've been so, so much more motivating. Even if the fight had been just as hard.

This boss kinda sucks because compared to the other bosses in this DLC and especially the base game, the skill expression is EXTREMELY limited. Yeah you can fight him with every weapon, but there are very few ways to dodge or do something interesting with the weapons/resources you have. This is the only boss that actually aligns with the general complaints about ER bosses which are wonky/unfun punish windows and combos that are too long.
There are some interesting things you can do to bait out certain moves and some fun moves to dodge but the general rhythm of the fight is just not fun for me.
