I love living here in northeastern Tennessee! I"ve been in 49 states so far, and this region of NE Tennessee, SW Virginia, NW North Carolina, Georgia, and parts of eastern Kentucky are the best I've seen! The Fail of the Dragon is overrated in my humble estimation. It's kind of a "once and done" kind of ride. I much prefer the HUNDREDS of other fantastic rides in this region. The Cherohala is another fantastic ride that isn't over in 20 minutes like the Tail. Next up for my wife and I is the Reaper's Ride. It takes about five hours, and puts you in Tennessee, Virginian, and Kentucky. The Copperhead Road is another great one! It's about 110 miles, almost 1,000 curves, and 5 mountains! It runs from Harrogate to Bean Station on I think four different routes. It's definitely worth looking up if you're in the area! Thanks for sharing your ride! Ride safe, ride well, and ride often!
I just rode Cherohala Skyway for the first time a few days ago, and wow! I was impressed. Much like the blue ridge parkway, but feels a lot more remote, and that's a GOOD thing!
Cherohala is probably my favorite ride there (so far). Also enjoyed Moonshiners, over near Fontana Dam. Beautiful riding and scenery in the area, overall. Thanks for bringing us along!
Jerry, your "tour guide" commentary in the prior video was great, by the way! I agree about riding with Joe.....his video make me want an adventure bike like crazy. I'm just a backwoods country boy myself and get the lifestyle he has.
Cool you start out on the river road to Bald River falls, I ride and stay in Tellico every year, great video. The guy that went off the side was just going too fast, folks don't realize the mountains don't play, it can get away from you in a hurry, glad he wasn't hurt.
I24 nashville to chattanooga and around chattanooga area, monteagle tennessee etc. When i ride back home to florida i plan a day to hit backroads in that area
That dive He describes under deceleration is a smog thing, Moore Mafia channel tells you how to fix that and generally make it all better by flashing the ECU.
One of my favorite rides. Just before you get to Robbinsville turn off to the Joyce Kilmer national forrest. It will wind around back to US 129 just North of Robbinsville.
Man that's one beautiful ride. Gonna have to try it sometime. Thanks for the journey. Them Honda's just keep a runnin'. I use to ride a Harley Fatboy that I loved but was always having to work on it. I switched to metrics years ago and have never looked back. Rode a Honda VTX 1800 bagger for years and put some real miles on it. Never had a roadside breakdown with the exception of a couple flat tires. Never any engine problems. Ride a Yamaha XVS 1300 Tourer bagger now. Absolutely love that bike. Been on several 1000+ mile trips without a hiccup. Keep on a keepin' on man, your videos are inspiring to an old fart like me.
So much good riding out here. Myself and a couple friends are heading up first full week of May this year, we've got a bit of a yearly tradition going on. The Dragon is of course a must ride but gotta have your guard up big time and if you happen to just need to pass through during busy time it's really best to just take it easy. Preferably hang out behind a truck or something so if a wacko isn't in their lane they can take the hit instead of you... I also really like Rt28 around Fontana Dam. Rt28 all the way down to Highlands has some good spots. Another Dragon like road very near the actual Dragon is Rhymer's Ferry. Extremely twisty but not quite as long as the Dragon. Some sections of the foothills parkway are epic and similar to the Cherahola, built like a motoGP track, so epic. Wayah road is nice and very scenic. Also some good corners. And of course Joyce Kilmer is another must ride. Connects the Cherahola and Dragon nicely. Nice shoutout on the Cherahola being cold. It really always is, I definitely recommend bundling up right before the climb, but no earlier. Nothing worse than getting sweaty right before a temperature drop.
Biggest problem with an Africa twin is you need a step ladder to get on the thing...😀 This road seems much better than the dragon, I'm not a fan of touristy places. As you said the locals know where best to ride. Another good one Joe!
Hello! Thanks for the video! Sorry, i am just catching up with 'em. Will try to watch the long one tomorrow. Anyway, what a nice campsite in NC with the lake! Also it is so refreshing to see random people meet and have a nice chat on the side of the road! We humans definitely need to talk to each other in person more these days. Like Scotty always says, it is good to talk to people. On the side note: what a coincidence, i just came across some nice Ronnie Milsap songs on UA-cam the other week. I like "Smoky Mountain Rain" very much! Take care Joe!
Hey man! Just discovered your channel because of Mexico. My buddy and I are riding down there this winter for a video and I’d love to bend your ear for some tips!
I have three of them I carry with me sometimes. I think the only thing for him would be having to buy a fishing license in different states which isnt too cheap anymore. Most offer one day non resident or you can risk it and do without it but if you got caught and got a ticket it would probably be a lot more than the license
Your one of the smartest, if not smartest guys living off their motorcycles doing UA-cam videos. What's your plans Joe? What are you thinking? Do a video on your future!!
Beautiful ride. I delivered a new truck to the Asheville N.C. area last year and the drive in from the West was gorgeous, hope to go back and see the rest.
That looked like a beautiful ride and have actually never heard of it until you mentioned it the other day! I would agree that I would rather do the Cherohala Skyway over the Tail of the Dragon (a lot less touristy, less idiots on the road, and less commercialized ... lol) but I'll definitely have to try both of them (hopefully if I make it down for Forgotten Angles campout in the next year)! Another great video as always Joe and it was great meeting you - ride safe brother and I'm really hoping to get up to Laconia next week!
@fitzstermoto I sure hope you can make it to a forgotten angels camp out. The atmosphere at the camp out is truly amazing. I have been to 4 of them and hate to leave the property each time. The sence of love and community is overwhelming to one's emotions.
Great video hombre! Rode the Cherohala Skyway back in the mid-90's on the way to Ashville for the Honda Hoot. What a trip that was from Texas. Que le vaya bien amigo!
Joe, you’re riding in my country now. I live in Cookeville and my Sunday afternoon rides are over to Tellico and over the Cherohala. I seldom do the Dragon due to all the idiots from all over the country trying their luck. Many different routes back home after crossing into Robinsville. Down to Murphy and back up 68 through the National Forest and back home. Give me a shout out if you are ever back in this area and I’ll take you on some interesting back roads in the area.
Man i wanna see the top of that road on a clear day but you had the same type of weather I had when i rode it. I know you've travel so much more than me but for me and what i've done this is by far my best ride.
How is the NC holding up. Any video plans about whats been working, what needs changing ir replacing now that it's been living outside in a working life versus a garage sheltered bike?
I've been wanting to do the skyway......for some reason the dragon doesn't really appeal to me. I think bc it's so over hyped and busy. I'm not saying I won't every ride it, it's just not up there on my list. Also, that zippy would be perfect for @parkerthecoyote , the howling wolf looks similar to her logo. Her and @whiskychaser are over in Nashville.
Did i see you was going to be in laconia if so were could someone find you would love to meet you also think i heard you mention you was heading to Canada if so i live on the coast in maine if you was heading this way we live 45 min from bar harbor if you wanted a place to came we have a spot
Not sure if I'm headed that way yet, but if so would be great 👍 Can you send me a message thru instagram with your contact info? @dirtymotorcyclevagabond

Ahhhh. The sound of a motorcycle starting another trip!
I do love that part of Tennessee

Yes it was!
Been out that way 3 times in 4 weeks lol.! I'm just to the east of Asheville.
I broke down once.
Got rained out one.
And last time. A friend's stator left us stranded in Cherokee..
- NOT off to a good start of riding season 😕
Hey man you and Scotty are my favorite free birds thanks for sharing your adventures I'm stuck like chuck here in Wesr Virginia
Thank you sir ✌🏻
If your plans allow it, try to make it to Lake Lure, there is some awesom riding there also. The hotel from Dirty Dancing is there.
Ha, I been up there. Not far from home actually

Thanks, will do!
Yep, the Skyway is my favorite that's east of the Mississippi. That lake looked awesome. I might have had to throw a line in.
I need to get some tackle, man. Just got too much $hit lol
Nice little lakeside camp. Have you ever considered carrying one of those collapsible fishing rods?
