Dollar General Workers EXPOSE CEO's Lies

  • As Dollar General’s CEO boasted to shareholders about how much the company values its employees, workers were shut out from the meeting. Now workers are exposing the CEO’s lies. They say they can’t afford to pay bills and often face violent crime like armed robbery on the job.

Dollar General limits work so bad it's already similar to a walkout. They don't care. They'll just replace who they need to and get one or two people working it every day. I don't know how they aren't hemorrhaging money; my guess is that we're subsidizing it somehow.
When I worked there, I had to run the register and stock at the same time. It's bullshit because you can't do both and stick to policy or do both effectively, yet the manager will tell you to do it anyway so that at least some stocking will get done. My manager wanted to give out more hours to stockers, but wasn't allowed those hours ever. The manager also spent a ton of time stocking, since it was just them and one other person there most of the time.
This was years ago, and judging by what I've heard from family and friends that might go to a DG for something, it's actually gotten worse in my area. They've closed in a few places for a new one to be opened and built somewhere close to both, yet most of the stocking doesn't even get done now; most products are still on the cart how it came off the truck.
I can only feel that they're doing something shady in this area, because I can't see how they'd make any money doing business this way. Either that or they somehow got state incentives that negate the loss somehow. I don't see them taking money they make elsewhere to keep these stores that can't get shelves stocked and product sold floating like they are.

I was an AM at a dollar Gen, majority of their stores in my state are located in areas that aren’t safe, the pay is terrible, when we have a full staff we are still short handed, benefits are pretty much nonexistent, and the condition of the stores aren’t safe for employees and customers because of merchandise being placed on the floor. I left because I needed better pay and better benefits, because in this job the only reward for a job well done is more work.

Amen!! I am a manager at a DG in Alabama and I feel the same way. Plus they have unrealistic expectations when it comes to the amount of work they expect from their managers whom they pay salary and should pay them hourly wages, if they paid their managers HOURLY wages and gave their managers plenty of hours to use for staffing and actually paid ALL EMPLOYEES competitive wages, then it would be a better work environment to work in.

@@amybrown3307 And now they even fire the store manager over little things their employees (or customers) do. Dollar General is definitely the worst place I could’ve ever worked at. This places had me stressed out for so little pay. Unprofessional, unorganized so much work with only two people per shift. I worked so hard, we had no manger for a month we had to handle stuff that wasn’t for our position. This store is definitely disgusting it’s overpacked in the back-stock. Barley can walk through some aisle dusty dead bugs and every aisle is unorganized and messy. People steal everyday. We can’t work overtime or get extra help to get things done. No DM cares nothing. Located in Texas. This is no place you’ll like to work at.

As I'm reading your comment I start envisioning my store. Same exact thing. Oh and don't even get me started on the pinpads that dont work, the HHTs that are pieces of crap, the registers that randomly decide to restart themselves. Even our equipment is overworked!

The one in my town has always had merchandise strewn everywhere and bare minimum staffing in the entire 15 years it’s been open. The place seems to have a new manager every 6 months or so, I’ve never seen anyone working there for longer than a year to 18 months.

As a Store Manager, I have to ask; where do they find these people??
The people being interviewed need to take a closer look at the bottom line.
By the way, a shareholder is anyone that chooses to own stock in the company.
And no, that doesn't automatically make you rich; as a Former Manager in the video seems to believe only certain people can own stock.

You find out what the job really entails only after you've taken it. Before that it's all roses and wine getting blown up your ass.
Either that, or a friend or family member tells you, or you're a creeper that stays in the store all day so you know the ins and outs that way.
Other than having that experience, you'd hear the exact same about DG as you do many other places; that it sucks but it's a job.

If I still worked at a DG and that happened to me while ringing up, I'd match every price. I might get fired or face legal action, but if DG can't take responsibility, than I'll do my best to do so; and mine's to the customer.
