Back in the forties when I was born every building in Birminghams city centre was black with soot. I grew up thinking that that was the natural colour of the stone. All that changed when they started a clean up during the sixties and seventies. What a difference it made. Particularly to the council house.

Still a lot of construction happening since the last time I was there. A couple of my favourite shops I wanted to see again but you walked in the opposite direction 😂. I miss the German Market!
Birmingham is an absolutely beautiful city, the locals are so down to earth, on 1 side you have the black country & you have Birmingham itself, they're humorous nice & a welcoming bunch, this city is hosting the commonwealth games this year & it should be proud of what it's achieve because its worth the privilege, lovely place Birmingham

Lived through the 50's,60's, 70's and still live in Brum and during the periods I listed Birmingham was realy a dump with bomb sites , building sites and slums, now the City is the greenest City in Europe with the most green opens areas and parks and a totally rebuilt modern City enter.

They do not or have never existed, just a TV programme and is not even Filmed in Birmingham being Filmed in Liverpool, Manchester and the Black Country Living Museum in Dudley 15 miles from Birmingham.
I wish they’d kept the original library though instead of building the brutalist concrete monstrosity. Look up the old Victorian library, it was gorgeous.
It looks so dreary and miserable. Why don't they put some greenery there? I laughed when I saw the dude dressed as Dracula carrying the big needle though, that was great. XD

@@SirKinetic Some of those squares would look better if they planted a tree in the middle and maybe put a fountain around it or something. I saw a few but they were all dead. They should plant some pine or cedar trees next time.
Instead of making adverse comments about putting greenery in Birmingham , you need to visit Birmingham and you will find hat in the City Center there a lots of green areas dotted around, plus with in the City of Birmingham there are over 150 green areas and parks around the City making Birmingham the Greenest City in the UK.
I could say the same about London and Oxford, doesn’t mean they’re not great cities? Besides this was filmed in winter, obviously in the rest of the year the trees are green and there are flowers.
